Can and should you ride an e-bike without a battery?
On my bike I've run out of battery and it was very hard to pedal. Is a crank drive (bosch) and is definitely harder than a regular bike. If you have a hub drive I guess that might be a different experience. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

Bosch Nyon
I got the nyon as an upgrade on my bike, managed to get it discounted against the cost of the bike so in effect ended up costing £200. Maps are pretty good though not all kept on device, you synch the ones you are likely to need. Quite like the premium option to show typographic distance of the battery. Having only 3 route calculation modes is a bit annoying but at least it does take you on actual cycle paths, even to the point of showing you which side of the road it is on when not on the road. I like the connectivity options for smartphone, heart rate bands etc, thinking about getting one of those next. Just think a bit more development is needed such as being able to define additional route options (eg shortest, off road etc) and better options for the smartphone companion app to put on an equal footing with the Web portal. Currently some things you can only do with the Web portal which seems silly because it connects directly to your phone! Would say it's a lot of money if you already have a bike with intuvia and looking to buy off the shelf but if you can get it discounted with a new bike then get one! Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

Bosch Nyon - is it possible to export tracks
This question has come about all because I forgot to start Strava this morning. Having to manually enter the details rather than import a track (.gpx or otherwise) I wondered why I couldn't export what the eBike Connect web portal provides. You can import .gpx tracks so am I missing something? Also does anyone with a Nyon device have a recommended way to raise feature requests with Bosch? Their web page seems quite confusing... maybe purposely so. Slick design but all style and no function!

Nyon software update April 2016
I've got the Nyon and before I started using it did the update. Only issue I've had is that during a ride it loses smartphone connection every once in a while. It reconnects itself though after a short period. This could be the phone though as I've had other devices randomly disconnect! (Xperia z3 compact) I did see that it is supposed to tell you when a text message comes in which it doesn't. As it won't show the content of the text message (health and safety gone mad!) I don't see it as a big deal, plus I have an android watch so read them on that (and respond). The GPS tracking is pretty accurate and keeps up with Strava in terms of accuracy. It is annoying that you can only do key things and see all detail using the pc, but because it syncs via the smartphone I haven't had to connect it! I would say the Dev team have been unresponsive to my comments on the Play store. In terms of the additional functionality (topo -battery limit) this IS a premium feature but it's pretty cool and only £4 so wasn't a big deal for me. All in all I think it's a good unit, accompanying smartphone app needs work but overall I'm happy with it. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

KTM Macina Tour 10+
Thanks for the tip! I do have 1 pair of padded shorts, wore them twice this week and whilst it was better than just underwear they weren't that comfy. Looked at the pearl izumi and they're a bit expensive so I've ordered a cheaper pair of mens 3d pants from amazon and will see how I go with them. I also agree that my arse will grow accustomed to it, already it isn't as painful as it was just a week ago! Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

KTM Macina Tour 10+
Hi folks Just taken delivery of my very first eBike and thought I would just jot down my initial thoughts having completed a commute to/from work totalling >50km. This is by far the furthest I've cycled in any one day. My legs are kind of feeling it now but nowhere near like they would be if I had been riding my usual mountain bike! That said I did ride with a colleague on his road bike, he's fairly keen and with the assist cutting out at 25kph he was just hitting his stride so even up hills I was struggling to keep up! Hopefully that will improve over the next few weeks as my legs (and arse!) get used to cycling again! I won't go into the tech specs, these are available for all to see if they care to look up, but I will say that : - it comes with a 400Wh battery - it is the Bosch Performance line (not the CX which I really wanted though not sure what I would be missing since it's relatively flat here) - I had the Bosch Nyon computer thingy fitted as a replacement for the Intuvia First impressions I loved the boost you get when you first start off. Traffic lights I don't mind stopping at now! I love the gadgetry of the Nyon and all the STUFF it can show you! Quite distracting! I hate how complex the Nyon is to connect to various devices! I hate that the Smartphone Nyon app and PC browser-based ebike-connect are sometimes mutually exclusive! I hate that you can't add hidden WLANs to Nyon I hate that the motor cuts out at 25kph Anyway, enough about that. The bike is great fun, it may look a bit like a boring tourer for someone on holiday (especially next to co-workers road bikes!) but being able to stay in the seat when gliding up a hill is great fun. What I would say is that although the saddle looks comfy my ass certainly didn't think so after completing nearly 30k on the way back home from work today (scenic route gone wrong!). I think some of this is to do with my body not being used to cycling (too much too soon?!) and some of this to do with the extremely unforgiving tyres (Schwalbe efficiency I think). Even with the front suspension unlocked it is pretty harsh over even slightly bumpy ground. The Nyon device is great to use, very clear text and graphix. The joystick takes a bit of getting used to and when you are riding it can be quite hard to not double / triple press. Got used to just brushing it and getting to whichever screen I needed. I understand why it wasn't made as a touch screen but considering the sensitivity of the joystick I was more distracted trying to select something whilst riding. Maybe I shouldn't have been but why else put the joystick on the control unit!?! I liked the custom screens that you can set from your smartphone and I have paid for the topographical upgrade to show how far your current battery charge would take you. This seems quite useful if only to reassure myself that I would be able to use TURBO for the last few km's home! Here is my biggest gripe... the 25kph cutoff. I now see why there is such a big market for 'dongles'. Once you get going, even on ECO assist mode I was easily up to 25kph after which it is my legs propelling the bike. If there are lots of hills en route then this is where the payoff is but on a fairly flat run I can't see the battery being used too much. That said I got into work today not feeling tired at all. A little bit sweaty but I've ridden less than half the distance on my old Ridgeback and have been in pieces! On the route home trying to keep up with my colleague was impossible, he was ticking along at a lick of 28kph and there I was puffing away as the assist had run out! I guess there may be something to be said for weight and thin wheels! (not to mention conditioned legs!) In short, I love the bike, especially love the nyon but need Bosch to be on the ball with updates to both the nyon device and the mobile app. So far it seems they are, lets hope another model doesn't come along and this version gets left behind. Just need to build up the conditioning on the old behind! Hope this is of help and interest to some of you! Chris

Bike Locks....
I think as stated in a previous post, as well as by a colleague you want to have 2 locks but of different materials so that it will mean a dirty thieving burglarising bast*rd would need more than 1 tool to be able to break. Just got myself a hiplok lite and already have another meshed lock but thinking about getting a D lock as well! Good job I've got an electric motor otherwise I'd need a car to be able to carry all these locks! ;-)

Electric Bike Thief
Serves the dirty thieving bastards right! Think there's scope there for a true anti theft device for an e bike. Electrify the handlebars and seatpost with a remote control :-)

Ebike shop after service
Don't suppose you will indicate which shop this was, or at least the region you are in? I'm in the market for an e bike so keen to find reputable dealers. Feel free to Pm me if you don't want to post publicly. Thanks

Anywhere to hire an e-bike before buying?
Thanks, great suggestion. I've seen this capability is available in places like the new forest as well so was considering a trip. Planning summer hols in Devon or Cornwall but I hope to have a bike before then though!

Anywhere to hire an e-bike before buying?
Thanks, however this is drifting away from the point of my post and that was to find a place relatively locally from where I can hire an e bike from. I'd like to try my commute at least once with an e bike to make sure it's something I will keep up.

36 hole not volt. A 22Ah battery is better than most of the batteries seen for bikes in terms of capacity, no?

Anywhere to hire an e-bike before buying?
Thanks. I prefer the look of the Krieger from your link. I've not really considered a conversion since it would mean taking an already heavy bike and making it heavier. If it was half that price I'd consider it since if it all went tits up in a year I wouldn't feel too aggrieved! Again though, my main question is around trying for an extended period of time before buying, I assume you are based in Southend, do you do extended test rides or hire?

Anywhere to hire an e-bike before buying?
Thanks, I appreciate technology has moved on however if I wanted a similar spec'd bike to my ridgeback now I could easily pick one up for the same or less and it would most likely be better and lighter. I suspect the cost of such Li-Ion batteries in their current incarnation is down to what is felt the market will bear. Golf trolleys use very similar batteries and the story is the same. Production costs are much lower and the size isn't as much of a factor but I can still pick up a good 36hole Li-ion batter for <£200.

Anywhere to hire an e-bike before buying?
Hi folks I'm interested in buying an electric bike. Will be used for commuting, some road but hopefully mostly tracks and cycle paths. So not looking for a full on MTB but a hybrid or cross-bar style bike with front suspension (lockable) and mid-drive (pref Bosch but open to trying Shimano or Yamaha crank drives). Trouble is these are not cheap, brand new looking at £1500 minimum which is a fair chunk of change regardless of technology and capability! My last bike (ridgeback mx45) cost £300 (>10 years ago) and I thought was a lot! So I am trying to find out if any cycle shops would hire a bike so I can get a feel for what I am looking for or perhaps provide an extended test-ride for the version I am potentially interested in. I've been looking at some of the KTM models (Macina Cross, Venturer) and really like the look of them. Commute is ~17 miles each way, so the battery needs to cope with that. Mostly flat. Live in Addlestone and commuting to Slough so anywhere within 10-20 miles of those locations has potential, have roof bars so can pick up from further afield. Thanks in advance for your help and any advice, great forum with loads of info, I'm sure someone will know something! Chris
