Wisper 905 Torque - Regularly Losing power
Wisper 905 Torque, 6 years old and had a replacement battery last year. There's regular resistance when pedaling like it's losing power at any speed and on flat terrain. Seems to be getting more regular and it often feels like i'm pedaling in manual mode than with any assist. The controller LCD remains fully displayed throughout. The battery locking mechanism broke a while back so I have to keep the battery strapped in with a bungi strap but no problems with the LCD display. Any ideas on what could be causing it? Many thanks

I returned the battery to Wisper who have managed to fix it and return it to it's near new capacity. Here is the email from Adrian..... "The problem was down to the BMS which due to its malfunction didn’t allow the battery to be fully charged. Each cell section has its own balancing cable which is connected to the positive terminal on the board. Every cable has its own little “controller” to make sure all the cells have the same voltage level. If one, or few them controllers fail the BMS still operates, but bypass the cells that have faulty controllers to prevent the cells from overcharging or discharging too much. That’s why after replacing BMS the battery has perfect results." Many thanks to all for your replies. Looking forward to get back in the saddle and do a 'full day's ride' in time for summer!

Wisper have quoted £125 to repair and return (plus my delivery cost to them) or return FOC if no fault found. . Is this reasonable? I'm not confident in going under the hood myself to even test and not sure of any local e-bike battery repair services (Manchester)

My LCD (XT-LCD W108) doesn't have buttons on it, they are separate and tethered to the LCD. I have tried hold all three together but nothing happens

The charger reads 41.6v

Yes, it turns green on a full charge and al LEDs are lit on the battery

36v is the 'nomianl voltage' of the battery. It rides ok, just shows 2 bars on the controller and then goes down to none after around 20 miles

I took a reading immediately after charging, it read 36v exactly, which is normal as it is a 36v battery (?)

I've had my Wisper 905se about 5 years and only use it occasionally during spring/summer. This year the battery (Samsung 575) only charges to about 50%, according to the LCD controller anyway ( 2 bars) although all LEDs are lit on the battery itself. I get a reading of 36v on the battery with my multimeter. I have contacted Wisper who recommend that I send the battery to them for testing. Before I send it off does anyone have any advice on what the problem could be? Could it be the controller at fault showing an incorrect reading?

Best cycling app?
I'm after a simple app that will allow me to... Create routes (on and off road) on a web version on my PC and upload to the app and then follow this route via GPS and also show elevation, speed, distance etc. I'm currently using Google Maps which is fine but doesn't seem to do elevation or stats. Google My Tracks was ideal but it's no longer available.

Are e-bikers generally accepted by the Strava community? Considering the main focus is on logging times, hill climbs etc then I would have thought there would be a lot of negative comments(?)

Seville - Lots of electric bikes here
I was in Seville two years ago, lovely city and I saw a few elec bikes too. Same in Bern & Lucern in Switzerland last year.

<rant> Of course 'assistance' from wearing high tech lycra clothing and riding lightweight carbon fiber bikes etc is not 'cheating' is it!? And what's 'cheating' about simply getting from A to B or doing it for leisure? Is every bike ride a race? a time trial? a work out? </rant>

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that. I'll ask my brother to come along too. He has a Bosch CD and also couldn't get up Cromford Hill. I'll let you know.

I know that hill in Castleton very well. Drove up and down it a few times but never cycled it. I'll give it a go later this year when i'm a bit fitter. It's slightly less steep than Cromford Hill

You can always lock the sus forks and thus converting them to rigid and getting the best of both worlds, albeit with the extra weight at the front.

Why not? In general or for touring? More so now with the state of the roads in the UK these days. Probably fair better in Europe though.

Looking at a wisper 905se
I've just bought the 905 Torque and I think the pannier rack is the same. I have an Altura Dryline 32 'Klickfix' pannier and couldn't attach it (Wisper, if you're reading!) as the tube diameters were too large and no clearance on the top horizontal rods as it was housing the battery. I had to do a modify it by adding a rod from an old rack (i'll post a pic later). TBF, the rack is designed more to house the battery rather than be able to support the click type panniers. You should be ok with the cheap permanent 'throw over' type panniers.

Thanks for the info David. Yes, helps very much. Its a 2015 mk 1 version. There are 3 modes plus 'H' ( I assume meaning 'High'/100% and still in torque mode or does this revert to cadence like 'F' in the 2016 version?). I was mostly using H, lowest gear and also trying the throttle. I also tried mode 3 and higher gears. On a side note regarding the LCD controller. I can't find any way to see the MAX/AVG speed and TRIP TIME, which are the bare minimum functions on even the cheapest off the shelf 'bike computer'!
