1. PS Nealh its the hub gear he is worried about. Wasn't sure he could do the job properly.
2. No thanks I am hub gears only on all bikes. Thanks for the offer.
3. Oh god yet another knee jerk comment. If he was trying to rip me off he would have taken on the job. I will take it into town to an actual LBS. He has been doing repairs on bikes for years but not professionally. I am rural lots of people have sidelines. The shop I will take it to is 8 miles away, he is mobile so I thought I would give him an option. Help him out during covid. I haven't got a car and the LBS is a so so slow at getting things done. Could be there for weeks. I have loads of firewood to collect don't like to leave it where other scroungers/foragers like myself might find it!! Thanks all. I love each and everyone of you. And not in that way!
4. Turns out he didn't think he was upto the job. He only does it part time. Told me to take it to a more competent mechanic!!
5. "Your bloke wants more money out of you because he thinks he knows more" nowt like a knee Jerk statement. He wasn't sure and needed to see the bike first AND I would need to buy the parts. How would he make more money? I told him it was mid drive and as I stated above "The reply seems to be suggesting that it would be a standard rim and spokes." Thanks for your knee jerk reply
6. The bike mechanic thinks that because its an ebike the rear wheel rim and particularly the spokes would be different as in stronger. The bike is Kalkhof hence the motor is not in the rear wheel so I have text him to say so. The reply seems to be suggesting that it would be a standard rim and spokes. Is that correct? PS the rim is just about worn out so needs replacing. Thanks
7. The motor is by the bottom bracket not in the back wheel. Bike shop i spoke to said the rim/spokes maybe different. He said he would call in to look but I would have to order the rim and spokes if they are. Anyone know save him calling round? Thanks
8. I have kalkhoff as its in for repair i don't know what motor it has but its done 6500 miles. Its nexus 8. Never been happy with the hub. To take the wheel off removing the cable is reasonably easy, reasserting the cable is not. So I have marathon plus tyres and slime in the inner tubes. I wouldn't worry if its chain or belt. I just asked the bike shop to change the chain as its bit slack (no elliptical bottom bracket). I also have two ordinary bikes both travelmasters with Rohloffs, one belt one chain. I wouldn't rate one better than the other. Chain one has done 20,000 kilometres before I bought it and I have done at least 5,000k. Same chain but the bottom bracket is elliptical (you can tighten the chain by turning the bottom bracket). Go for nexus 7 if its avaliable And if its easier to reassert. I have seen a 11 speed hub once on an ebike but along time ago. I had no problems with them.
9. You also said I was a thief without adding any emojis or exclamation marks. I meant to type moronic not moron. So i apologise your statement was moronic not you exclamation mark, exclamation mark. Don't actually need any help as my bike has done 6,000 miles with out stealing anything from anybody exclamation mark, exclamation mark.
10. Thats not what I asked i asked if it had to be impulse? And did Bosch replace the impulse motor. Never mind as mine could have Panasonic, Bosch, Xion or Impulse. Did they use them in that order?
11. Are you saying my kalkhoff pro connect must have an impulse motor? Was it a Bosch motor that replaced them? I haven't got mine at the moment to check.
12. Stole the luck of someone else? Moron
13. Just checked milage that I noted down. After noting down 5385 miles during a ride home I pressed the set button and held it in for to long and it cleared total millage. No idea at what point it was when I did it but it would have been fully charged at the start of 22 mile journey. So let's call it 6000 miles. Its is over 700 miles at the moment. So 6700 miles so far with no motor problems.
14. How do you tell the difference between the impulse (made by whome?) and a different and your opinion better motor. Mine is in the shop for new crank arm and a fix on the lights.
15. You will have to explain that. I have had 5,000 miles out of my kalkhoff pro connect. The battery appears to be the same as mine. Almost worth buying for the battery
