Recently built my next ebike with a mid-drive conversion kit & thought I share it with you guys.
Thankyou, it is a lovely bike to ride. As for the reasons you ask about the hub gear, well I wanted to replace my original 21 speed derailleur gears for something to match the gear range & the 11 speed hub gear does this. Also the hub gear was on offer for less than a hub gear with less gears, so was a win win! I've been riding the bike with this hub gear whilst waiting to have the funds to buy the conversion kit which is almost 2yrs & is very good, hassle free & not an issue with it. I've heard about the 'issues' other have had but a group of us all bought these hubs that were on offer & none of us over the past 3 years have had any issues with them between us. As for the stress load from the mid drive motor, well that is why I fitted the gear sensor which pauses the motor as the hub gear changes gear & is smooth as it has been & the sensor is recommended if the bike has a hub gear. I did think of front wheel motor as it is cheaper/lighter option but looking into the pro's & con's they are less efficient & can easily lose control on slippery surfaces, I know that one as have experience of front motors on previous ebike. How it goes, only time will tell & learn from it for my next build of an ebike. I do think ebikes with hub gears are getting more available, all depends where you look. Possibly retailers who sell the more Dutch Style bikes as they know better.

Recently built my next ebike with a mid-drive conversion kit & thought I share it with you guys. Done 22 miles so far & as many hills as possible, carrying loads on 2nd ride & using as much of the assistance as possible to see how battery does & not even dropped a bar on the battery level indicator so am pleased with this so far. Possible issue with my motor hub
Well after no help from manufacturer & no-one locally can work on it I decided I might as well attack it with hammer & chisel to get cover plate open & check the bearings. But before I managed to check bearing it was discovered that the cover plate was slightly undone due to the grub screws had failed. So I did up the cover plate, tapped it slightly with hammer & chisel to make sure its tight & problem was resolved, ordered new grub screws & all looks OK again. So after all that it never was the wheel bearings & a cheap repair after some hassles, not fussed tho as I have my ebike back on the road.

Possible issue with my motor hub
Well I can't see why they wouldn't repair it considering their business is solely eBikes, the motor is part of my Momentum Upstart. Built at factory as an eBike & electrics & frame still under warranty. Sent from my Valencia2_Y100pro using Tapatalk

Possible issue with my motor hub
As I've said, I ain't riding it until I know what's going on. I won't be touching it as likely invalidate any warranty on bike or have the tools to open it. But it seems all agree it is bearings & will look at it to be repaired by reputable mechanic for the manufacturer of the eBike. Sent from my Valencia2_Y100pro using Tapatalk

Possible issue with my motor hub
I need some help as I am concerned in a possible issue with the front wheel Bafang 8fun 250W motor. I have noticed what feels like an intermittent rubbing sensation that feels like a brake block making contact to a buckled rim. After having rim trued up & brakes adjusted, it is still there. I have loosened up the brakes to eliminate them & rubbing sensation is still there. So I now know the rim & brakes are not the cause of the rubbing sensation I feel & unsure if it is meant to be there in the motor hub. I have looked further into what could be the cause & noticed the wheel rocks sideways on its spindle of about 1-2mm, but as I am unfamiliar with motorised wheels I am unsure if this meant to be like this as I know it's not meant to be on standard bikes & I don't want to open up the motor to see just yet as could be a warranty issue. Could anyone please advise as I wont use it until I am sure its not going to damage the motor & both dealer & manufacturer are taking ages to get back to me. So looking at fellow pedelecs who might know & have experience of this. See photo included of the hub, the movement is the spindle itself. Shown in the photo as red is the centre line of the spindle & in green is the approx movement of about 1mm. The wheel does spin freely as a wheel with a motor built in would. When spinning the wheel in the air, the rubbing sensation is not there. Its only noticed when cycling & under load of using the bike. The motor is working fine but I am concerned the rubbing sensation I am feeling could damage the motor & why I aint riding it atm until I know for sure so need to find out ASAP as to what it could be & then how to resole it.

Thanks, I can cycle longer distances without the need of pedal assisted bike but its too much for my knackered legs to do & stand for hours at work too. So having a gentle assistance at junctions & hills does help the legs a lil bit & is good to cycle a bit more this way.

Hello Pedelecs! I'd be very appreciative of any advice on bike buying...
I recently purchased a secondhand 2015 Momentum Upstart due to its weight & affordability. I'd say it is a wonderful bike, I get about 42-44 miles per charge cycling to work & back with hills & my disability. Definitely one I'd recommend.

Electric Bike Conversions FWD 250W/Ridgeback Hybrid
I found the automatic gear hub on the Momentum is great for in town use but for long faster moving rides with hills, it was a hindrance. So I spent £100 to replace the automatic gear hub with a Sturmey Archer manual 3 gear hub kit with smaller 13 tooth rear sprocket. I have found it gives me perfect control & ease of cycling for different road conditions.

A newbie to eBikes
Hi all, I thought I join this community as I have now got an ebike. So I will introduce myself, I have been cycling when I was young & returned to cycling after 20 years of disability making it impossible. Now returned to cycling after a major op 5yrs ago & recently got a 2nd hand ebike (Momentum Upstart) to help with the 22 mile commute to work with my disability thanks to crowdfunding & some awesome friends, family & supporters. Always thought ebikes are a great idea for those with difficulty cycling & so wished they were around many many years ago. I'm not bothered who uses an ebike (as long as it is a road legal one) if it helps them get about, stay fitter & not have to get a car instead.
