  1. So I have fitted a Rixen and Kaul Alingo basket to my GTech bike using the klickfix system - only to realise that I now cant use my front bike light as it fits onto the handbar which is now obscured by the basket. Any recommendations for a bike light that clips on so I can attach it to the basket itself? Preferable one that charges using USB. I have to say the basket was a good purchase. It is very robust and holds plenty. Even when there is a heavy load (up to 7kg), the basket and the GTech bike handles it fine. It takes two bottles of wine and two lots of fish and chips quite comfortably! Thanks for any help with light recommendations.
  2. My e-bike has transformed my working day. we moved house about 7 months ago and I was dreading the commute. I used to be able to walk to work but the new place is 3.5 miles away and very very hilly. The walk would just take too much time out of the day to do it regularly. We do have a car but my husband and I like to work slightly different hours (we work together) so only one of us could travel by car. I saw the gtech advert and decided to give it a go. It is fantastic. We have no shower at work and if I had been able to make it up (and down) the steep hills I would have been stinky in the office on a normal bike. The ebike gives me a moderate exercise without putting any pressure on any of my joints so no injuries so far. I commute to work on it, do to the shops and cycle to golf on it. I have even invented a strap so i can take 3 clubs on my back. I have recently fitted a lockable basket to the front so I can carry more shopping than just my rucksack. I will never give up this bike. It makes going to work a pleasure and how many people can say that!
  3. Some of these comparisons don't seem fair as you are only including the cost of the e-bike, not the cost of the car too! My ebike was £1K I spend about £120 per annum on bike and accessories. I would expect the battery to last 2 years before replacing. Battery charge costs 4p Travel per week is 40 miles. Lets give the bike 4 years so £1K plus £480 costs plus £300 battery plus £30 battery charge costs. = £1810 Bike value after 4 years = £450 so costs = 1360 40 * 52 * 4 = 8320 miles = 16p per mile plus lots of health benefits. The mileage is based on what I do now - I have probably underestimated over the entire 4 year period as I will cycle more and more as I get more confident. 2nd hand car £5000 Tax £30 Insurance £380 patrol costs about 30p a mile annual costs including MOT avg £300 4 year cost = £2840 annual plus car=£5K plus fuel =£2496 Total = £10336 Car value after 4 years = £1500 so costs £8836 = £1.06 per mile but no health benefits Costs of the car and the depreciation is from real life experience!
  4. Update - i gave it a go in the end and it was very easy. I bought a standard Klickfix handlebar attachment with a lock and a Rixen and Kaul basket and it works perfectly.
  5. I have had my GTech for just about 6 months. I did post a review on this thread when I first got it - this is really a request for knowledge. I would really like to fix a basket onto the handlebars. I was thinking of the Klickfix system with one of the Rixen and Kaul baskets. Has anyone tried this? Any advice?
  6. I just wanted to give my review of the Gtech bike too. I didn't learn to ride a bike as a kid and actually got a 'normal' bike a couple of years ago. I do a lot of journeys that are 1-2 miles and whilst I might be time pressured enough not to want to walk them I got frustrated at using the car all the time so decided the time was perfect for me to get a bike. Sadly it was a bit of a disaster. Learning to ride a bike in your mid 40s is not fun. Despite every encouragement (and abuse) from my husband I just could not stand up on the pedals. That meant no power and therefor very slow acceleration and no chance of getting up the Leeds hills. It is a pretty hilly city and I just couldn't get enough power and ended up having to walk up the steeper bits. We then moved house and my 1 mile walk to work has changed to 3.5miles. I couldn't cycle it with my 'normal' bike so we decided to trial the Gtech city bike. It has been a revelation. If you want a bike as a vehicle rather than a sport then this is it. Despite a hilly commute I arrive fresh and not sweating - important as we have no shower at work. I have to cross two busy roads but this is no problem - the extra oomph you get when you first start means you can easily get away and remove yourself from danger. No gears means there is nothing to worry about - just pedal and use all your focus on surroundings and potential dangers. I have grown so much in confidence I can very nearly take a hand off the bars to make hand signals. This bike may be expensive (I paid £995) but it is a lot less than a second car which was the alternative. My next challenge is the rain - I have been lucky so far with the weather but it is only a matter of time before I will be cycling to work in the rain.
