  2. So, please forgive me, but that was not easy to follow, but if I've understood you properly. It should be possible to install previous software versions if: You can find a Bosch dealer, who has saved a copy of the update, preceding the E-mtb update, direct to a folder on his drive. Sounds perfectly logical. I am pretty sure the Bosch dealer update site only offers the most current version of their firmware and no previous options are select-able or offered. Also I am led to understand, by my LBS that most dealers stream the update during the update process and don't actually keep file copies. But you only need one dealer who has a copy any you should be in business. Good luck with that, I sincerely hope you are successful in finding this piece of software, perhaps you should talk to Bosch direct, given your medical situation I would be very surprised if they did not offer to help, they definitely would have a copy on file.
  3. Hey Steve a voice of reason should always be listened too And I couldn't agree more, polite and friendly debate would be my first choice every time. Your being clear, did not come out too well there but I think I get the jist...... not an upgrade just an update, is what you were eluding too. Well technically the software update is upgrading the system to include the new E-mtb mode, but whatever you prefer, the reality is "it is what it is" and I believe it is important that it is accurately portrayed. Plain and simple. No scare mongering, no imaginary bugs, no prejudice. I would hate to think someone missed out on what really is a seriously good "update" because of some misinformation they received from here. I'm sure Eddie is a really nice guy and if he would just refrain from portraying his opinions as actual facts we could probably get on well.
  4. Eddie, Firstly glad you moderated your tone from your first draft. Secondly "I fail" to see what my post had got to do with you personally! I really could not care less if you and whoever else wish to lock yourselves into the past and preclude yourselves from this and therefore all future updates, makes no sense, but that is entirely your business. The update information was copied from an official Bosch dealer website, and I posted it here for the information of fellow users, who like you might not wish to have the upgrade, I didn't make it up, just copy and paste, This appears to be official Bosch policy, as was explained to me before I had the upgraded software installed by an official Bosch dealer. And judging from your text, you now accept that this is in fact correct and you cannot get it removed as said you could. Ironic? As for the rest of your post. How on earth you arrived at the conclusion it uses more power makes no sense whatsoever. Compared to what? Staying in tour and not using E-mtb will obviously use less power, staying in the old sport mode would obviously consume more power than the new Emtb mode. Why? and it's not rocket science, Emtb defaults to the lower power (Tour) the millisecond that the higher power settings are no longer being demanded by the rider. I'm sure not even you could possibly hope to emulate this highly efficient use of power by manually switching between modes. This software update is dangerous and made you fall off three times Seriously are you going to stick with that, or edit it out tomorrow after you think about it a bit more. It is universally excepted that the E-mtb update makes restarting on hills, easier, it is specifically one of the main features of the update............ Given all your experience with "two" Bosch powered E-bikes, I am a little surprised, that you haven't considered getting better tires, but in any case, perhaps you really should consider riding lessons.
  5. You are most welcome, assuming you want the Emtb upgrade then your supplying dealer should be able to make sure it's installed before delivery. My mate has a Cube very nice bike.
  6. Yes Chris it certainly should come pre installed. Unless its an old model of course. All CX production from July this year onwards will leave the factory with this upgraded software.

  8. For those wishing to remove the update, bad news "Update Not Revertible" Please note that the update is not revertible. Sport Mode will permanently be replaced by eMTB Mode on all CX Drive bikes that are updated with new software and standard on all newly manufactured CX Drive bikes. What it is: As of July 10, 2017 Bosch is launching a new trail riding feature for Performance Line CX called eMTB mode. This new feature will automatically change between assistance modes depending on pedal pressure for optimal support on different types of terrain, allowing riders to concentrate their full attention on the trails. The eMTB mode replaces the traditional Sport mode (210% boost) with a “Variable” mode which provides assistance between Tour (120%), Sport (210%) and Turbo (300%). This gives riders ideal power at all times, even at low pedaling frequencies, without them ever having to toggle between support levels. The amount of assistance is dependent on the rider’s pedal pressure (see above graphic), starting with light drive unit support at light pressure and increasing to maximum support as pedal pressure is increased. The system responds almost instantaneously and the rider continues to experience the “natural riding sensation,” whether starting off or accelerating. As soon as the pedal pressure decreases, the power assistance is smoothly regulated downwards.   9. I prefer to be in full control of the power settings, battery consumption, and not have control taken away from me in respect of sport mode. Effectively you still have full control. Eco, Tour, and Turbo are exactly the same the new Emtb mode simply has a wider range of support than the old Sport mode. Have you actually tried it yet?
  10. Not sure why you would want to remove it, but I am pretty certain, that once installed there is no way back. At least that is what the dealer told me before I had the update installed.
  11. Hey Trevor, I was completely unaware of the new Active Line drive unit for 2018. Thanks for the heads up. If this tech does find its way to a new CX drive unit for 2019 then that would indeed offer major improvements and a possible reason for me to stay with Bosch. I really like the current Bosch unit, it's been uber reliable and great fun to use and with every update it's got better and better, E-mtb mode is seriously good for off-road use. I have perhaps been lucky, never had a problem, but my mate had a problem with a noisy bearing and Bosch were very easy and fair to deal with, new motor fitted no messing around. Can't be fairer than that. My only real gripe is the current motor is a veracious consumer of chains and front sprockets, I never expected to be replacing these items every 450-500 miles, so a direct drive and large front sprocket would certainly help to address this issue. Looking to the future Shimano has definitely stolen a lead with the E 8000 in terms of frame integration, due to its compact size and internal layout, so a future CX power unit would need to more compact if it is to be used in one of the latest high end geometry, short chain-stay setups that are being offered for 2018 and will quickly become the norm there after. If you are right, and I hope you are, It would definitely work for me

A lot of the new 2018 models do look very tempting, love the battery integration and the direction that frame geometry is moving, Shimano E8000 motor looks very neat and tidy, but TBH I am still very happy with what I have now and until someone produce's a real game changer, like a higher density battery say 700 Wh or a decent overall reduction in weight, I am not yet tempted to change. Progress, non the less is always a good thing, maybe the 2019 models will deliver and part me from my cash.
  13. Tubeless every time, for me. Must have had at least a dozen punctures that have resealed themselves and that is only the ones I am aware of as they often seal up very quickly. But best of all, the bike really does accelerate a lot faster without tubes and has amazing grip, from being able to run much lower pressures. I carry lever's and a tube just in case, after all if you puncture a tubed Tyre you have to remove it before you can repair it. Its win win.

You will have done absolutely no damage what so ever Lithium Ion batteries do not suffer from the dreaded Memory Effect that plagued the old Ni Cd and Nimh batteries, that required you to fully charge and fully drain before each recharge cycle. Thankfully Lithium Ion batteries are much easier to use and look after. They can be part charged and used as often as you like with no adverse effects to the batteries lifespan and long term power output. You can think of the charging cycles like this, 1 x 100%charge = 1 cycle, 2 x 50% charges = 1 Cycle, 4 x 25% charges = 1 Cycle. Your power pack will be guaranteed for a given no of cycles, I think Bosch is about 500 cycles, but many examples have well over double that amount, but eventually and gradually the power will drop of significantly enough to require it's replacement. There are however a few tips to help maintain your power pack. Keep you battery cool, they will degrade much faster in hot climates. Do not over charge, quite hard to do with modern chargers as long as you only use the correct charger of course. Long term storage at around 60% of capacity, I never leave mine fully charged for longer than possible and usually charge the night before I am going to use it, apparently It stress's the cells and shortens its life. One the worst thing you can do to a L ion cell is run it down to low, again your power pack will manage this for you to ensure that a safe level of charge remains. So if you run out on a ride don't keep trying to force more out of it and get some charge back in it as soon as you can. But whatever you do don' t pierce the battery casing with anything sharp, and if you do manage to do this very silly thing RUN. SERIOUSLY RUN, retire to a safe distance and watch your bike get incinerated.:eek: How are liking the Shimano E 8000 can't wait to try one, sounds like a fantastic bit of kit.
  15. That depends on your LBS, assuming they have the tech it actually only takes a few minutes. My local dealer Certini were fantastic, called them in the morning they said to swing by after 4.00 and they did the update there and then, took ten minutes and cost me £15.00. If you can take it to the supplying dealer it's usually free. Sud Tyrol enjoy!
  16. Done about 200 miles on the new update now, including a week in Scotland and the 7 Stanes. Good mate on his CX powered Trek did not have the update so perfect for comparison. E-mtb is not only smoother it really does makes sudden changes in terrain very easy to deal with, its also better on power consumption. At the end of each ride I always had more range left than my mate. EG after the 20 mile red and black run at Kirroghtree I had 9 Miles range (Eco) and my mate showed 3 miles. I stayed in E-mtb mode throughout and he switched up and down as required. On past holidays with same software there was never any great difference always within a couple of miles of each other. Once selected the E-mtb (Old Sport) delivers the minimum amount of power at any given moment spending most of its time around Tour levels of assistance, but if you need more it is delivered instantly and seamlessly by simply pedaling harder or if a full pedal stroke is not possible a good dab is all that is needed to inject power into your ride. So In unexpected situations, like when around that blind corner the track suddenly gets steep, rocky and technical you are no longer left fumbling for gears and power modes and as long as you are close to being in the correct gear E-mtb will help with the rest, leaving you free to focus on the best lines to take to get up and over. Highly recommend this update, makes a good motor assist great!
