  1. So most are pointing towards the marathon plus tyres? I think they sound the best for me, in road riding so don't really want MYB tyres so I'll go for the road ones but what's people's views on the sealant stuff then? I have heard bad reviews saying they don't work, they bend the wheel frame, block the valve when trying to pump up? How do people find them? Would it be better to by inertubes that have the slime in http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-parts/inner-tubes/slime-schrader-bike-inner-tube-20-26 Or get some better inertubes like continental ones and get a bottle of the slime stuff to fill them? Dan
  2. Well everyone, I need some advice on finding some tyres for my bike that have a good chance of not being punctured every 5 second on my commute to work! Has anyone got any advice or can recommend any tyres that might be suitable for this? I have a 26" 2.1 MTB that I use for the road, I would rather have slimmer wheels for the speed and things but Im just simply lost at all the offers! Any advice would be awesome!
  3. Yes where I ride is private land but off course getting there isn't, I can only ride safe, slow and be thoughtful of people and cars to not draw attention to myself but I understand if I get caught! I'm sure not sure if I should go for the 500 or 1000 as really the prices are the same but I don't really know the full difference of each... other then one being faster!
  4. Hey everyone! Okay I have been deciding for a number of days what route I wanted to take upon converting to the ebike crew! I believe I want to go down the conversion route because I feel it will be a nice little project for me and I will appreciate my bike ever so much more! Plus I love my current bike so much I want to keep it going I think I want to keep this project pretty simple and decided to go and get the Panda conversion kit from https://www.pandaebikes.com/ mainly because of the telephone support they can give me and the year warranty on everything! My choice is what's making me think twice! So can anyone give me some thought to ponder! So the kits are Panda 500 36v 500watt brushless rear motor 500watt controller 36v 13ah Samsung battery LCD screen £630 Or the Panda 1000 48v 1000watt rear brushless motor 1000watt controller 48v 10.4ah Samsung battery LCD screen £650 Both kits come with the extras like, torque arm, cables, PAD kit, breaks and other little things! Now I'm going for a bike that's obviously not road legal as it's mainly for off-road use, but may have the occasional ride to and from the off-road tracks! My question is, what kit do you think is really better for money, they both cost around the same, however the 1000 one is probably better or am I wrong? More just what would you people with more experience go for??
  5. of course I don't want it for the road, but I understand that even with the capability to go faster with it makes the bike not road legal.! It's just I can't afford two separate bikes, one for off-road and one for commuting! I guess I will go for the BBS01 250Watt and keep the legal side of things and maybe in a few months when I saved again I can look into a new bike Has anyone has any experience with the Pandaebike conversion kits?
  6. Okay brilliant.! So I could technically have a legal ebike kit on my bike but have it set by the controller to not cut out at 15mph assist and keep it going? does that mean it will never cut off because I doubt I will ever get up to 30+ haha! How would I go about doing that with say the BBS01 kit? I haven't found anywhere that sells a good version of it yet but still looking. what would I have to do to make sure a 250watt marked motor can be de-restricted to give me that weekend fun I want!! also are all the Bafang kits mid drive motors? Are they the ones that hand off the bottom of your pedal crank bit? sorry I'm not very technical with all this yet!
  7. You really think so? I'm not to useless when it comes to actually tinkering as long as I don't come across something to much of a hit in the face! I mean my bike is pretty decent, probably just needs a new chain as its a little old! Does anyone know a good website to order a kit from? Befang BBS02 is the only one I have ever heard of but wouldn't even know if its really good or not..? If I went for something more then 250W would that really effect the bikes speed that much to make its not road legal?
  8. what video may the be?? I would love to go down this route, then I would feel the bike is truly mine but even coming to buy the kit I have no idea where to get it from and does everything come in this kit? or will I still need to buy other things because I wouldn't even know if everything was there in the kit ha!
  9. Hey everyone, I have a classic question i'm sure you all hear everyday! been browsing these forums most days now for a while and finally posted about some bikes but now I have a new idea, the idea to convert my old MTB!! Okay so I have this bike, a 2014 Giant Revel MTB https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/2014-giant-revel-0-2014 I am new to ebikes, never owned one and decided instead of buying a new car to commute to work with I would try to do the healthy and environment friendly option of biking to work! I am pretty clueless to what makes a good ebike, and since my budget is £800-£1000 I don't want to go mad on something I'm new to. I have been reading a lot about people mentioning Befang 8fun kits.. now I would love to give it ago at converting my bike but is it really possible? I feel I am handy at tinkering but being the first I have ever done I'm scared to spend the money and mess it up.. specially since I won't have the time or money to correct such issues! Would it just be safer for me to buy something like this; https://pedalease.co.uk/index.php?rt=product/product&path=70&product_id=13172407 just to see if ebikes are suited to me and maybe have my old Giant bike as a ongoing project over the summer? I did post about my commute in another thread but its simply a 14-16 mile round trip with a train ride in the middle, shouldn't be a problem with the bike on the train as done it before with the Giant bike. I feel I want to get something that can abide by the UK Laws but at weekends I can flip the switch and pop some more power into the bike for of-road fun with mates! I don't want to be re-stircted all the time when my mates have more powerful and better bikes then I can afford sad times! So really my question is.. to convert my existing bike or to keep it simple and buy a new ebike this time round..? Thanks to anyone who replies
  10. I have actually checked out that website already.. are they based in Cambridge then? Unfortunately they are all out of my price range really as I would rather get a mountain bike to have fun on at the weekends! I have checked the train that I would be going on and there is no bike restriction at all, and some of the trains actually have bike racks inside one of the carts so hopefully everything there will be fine actually! I am going to want a rack to put a bag in I think, going to need my waterproofs and things! I have dreadlocks and the worst thing in the world is wet dreads good to work so I need that hooded waterproof coat I can hide in! Of course I'm not to worried if I can de-restrict it or not, I wouldn't mind the option for my weekend fun rides and I will of course follow the rules but I just feel cheated out of power but it's all for good reason of course!
  11. Yeah I was really thinking about the zephyr, it's very stealthy and would be perfect for the train section of my ride! I have a few options I am going to have to think over in my head and work out the best route for me. If it's able to be folded as well I might even be able to take it into the workshop with me for extra security! Always nice to be able to see the bike while working I know the route I will be taking is not the most bike friendly, I mean most the way has bike paths but they have been left to the elements for to long and have a few big holes breaking apart! If the CS2 is as bad as you say with the battery then I'm guessing it won't take long for this issue to show itself. Thank you all once again, this has been a big help to get a better understanding of the bikes I have been looking at! I'm going to take myself on the train first before I make a final decision, only seeing for myself is what's going to make my mind up!
  12. Yes the train section is a problem for me I realise! It's 15 min ride and covers around 20-25 miles so biking would just make it a day ride for me!! I wish I could but just out of my ability I do have to check that I will be alright at that time, I have been on the train in the other direction in the morning towards London (I live near Cambridge) and it's been fine with my standard mountain bike so heading away from London in the morning should be fine! But I will double check and maybe ride it one morning without the bike to make sure! We do have a bike rack a work I will be able to put it in and lock to, hidden round the back so that's not a problem luckily! Are ebikes easy enough to de-restrict? I have read many forums of people saying it's just in the controller? I don't mind doing the 15 speed limit but I just know of those horrible raining days I will wish I had some more speed on me as this is a bike everyday rain or shine for me.. no car option anymore! Maybe a hub drive is better option for me then, I want less effort because I don't want to be turning up to work sweeting and tired, the workouts will have to wait for the weekend Thank you for the help so far girls and guys! Much appreciated, I did find this bike at Halfords http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/electric-bikes/greenedge-cs2-electric-mountain-bike Some people have said good things about it, there is a thread here somewhere about it plus I could de-restrict it.. what's people view on it? I wish I had more time to really research this better but currently I am not at home and can't pop into a shop anywhere to test ride fingers crossed I will have time when I get home, not just going to buy something online without a test first! Just wanting to get my options open!!
  13. Hey everyone! first of thank you for reading and big thumbs up to everyone who can help I am new to the forum, and new to ebikes in general, however I have been reading the site for a while so hope I have the basic understanding either way. So I shall just get right into it shall I.? I am looking for a ebike for my daily commute to work.. the route is 8 miles each way (16 miles a day) with a 15 min train ride in the middle, thats only one stop so I doubt a folding bike is really needed as my train is at 6.30 in the morning and past 6 in the evening so should be more quieter at these times! I am around 5ft 10" and weight about 85kg. The route is basically flat, with the acceptation of one pretty steep hill on the return side of things, about 300 meters long at about 14% radiant climb. I have no traffic lights on my route and will have almost no stop and start moments bar 1 I can actually think off. Acceleration would be cool, but not necessary. I am aware of the UK laws being 15.5mph limit but I am also very aware that as long as I'm not riding like a maniac and being dangerous then they have no real reason to give me a second look if you get me I wouldn't mind a bike that I can adjust this restriction or simply doesn't have it but of course if I was flying by effortlessly at 30mph that would cause some raised eyebrows! I am happy to oblige by these laws of course but I do admire a bit of speed I have been looking at more bikes then I can even remember but believe these 3 might match what I am after.. even then I am unsure totally, thats why I'm here I am able to charge every night if needed but would like something that is quicker then something that accelerates faster then cars! although both wouldn't be unwelcome hehe! Pedalease Hybrid X-cross, https://pedalease.co.uk/index.php?rt=product/product&path=70&product_id=13172407 The Sirocco, http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?sirocco and the Kudos Eiger https://www.kudoscycles.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=328 Can anyone give me any insight to these bikes or even point me in the direction of one that may suit which I have missed? My budget is really about £800-£1000 as it will be going on the card for me to payoff I know, I know, but the savings I will make from not driving will pay the bike off within weeks! Thank you so much for any replies and ill be around for any more questions if I missed anything to give people a better understanding of my situation
