  1. I wish mine had only worn those 3 as the rest are forged in one piece and I'd worn one of those Lesson learned for me is to keep checking the chain wear.. apart from that the EX1 is really good, just expensive !
  2. Just to update, I went for the replacement cassette rather than changing brands. The bike is back to seemless shifting, so this time round I will measure the chain wear after every ride. I've also changed the way I'm using the battery modes (eco for most of the ride, only upping the power on large climbs). I'll update this thread when it comes to chain replacement time and let you know how many miles I get (112 so far) Cheers
  3. Are you using the EX1 as well ?
  4. Yeah, I've ordered the Park CC-2. I'm just really suprised the EX1 chain had stretched that much in such a short time. Like I say, I think by using the different modes rather than the gears I put additional load into the chain causing it to stretch prematurely. I will keep a very beady eye on it this time round
  5. I've decided to stick with it and go for another EX1 cassette but this time also invested in a park chain wear tool too. I'm sure I've been very unlucky to wear out the original cassette in such a short distance, but it does look like it was the chain that was at fault as it measured over .75 (so the SRAM ex1 chain didn't last long hey !.. less than 350 miles) I also need to rethink the way I ride my ebike, I tend to use the different modes rather than the gears when the riding gets tough which may account for the rate of wear in the chain.. expensive hobby these e-bikes !
  6. ps.. it was my idea to fit the EX1 as the reviews looked really promising. I think in reality for really muddy terrain a cheap chain and cassette is probably the wiser option as they are cheaper to replace
  7. the owners of the shop are friends of more than 30 years so thankfully that isn't the case also, chain jumping over a cassette gear is quite common when you put a new chain on a worn cassette, at least thats how I've always known its time to get a new cassette on every bike I've had since childhood . It changes through most of the gears fine, its just 5th into 6th where it refuses to drop rings, if I click again it will skip it and drop 2 rings, same with changing up. Shifting is set up fine, this is classic worn cassette symtoms. I also changed the gear cable and outer cable to ensure there wasn't anything restricting its movement.
  8. I know what you mean, but on mine you can see the wear (its currently in the shop so I can't take a photo) I know the cassette has had it as with the old chain it wouldn't drop down to the next chain ring and with a new chain it just jumped all the time. for me the EX1 has been a total waste of money
  9. I think my issues are mainly caused by where I ride. Sherwood Pines is very sandy and it's been so wet now for months so it turns the mud into grinding paste, however my normal nightly ride is 22 miles after which the bike is cleaned down and reoiled so to only get 350 miles out of the EX1 is pretty shocking. Just one of the gears has shark toothed but as its one of the fixed rings thats it knackered I'm thinking of going back to the original X1 11speed but I'll look into the XT/SLX as my experience with SRAM hasn't been great so far
  10. Not kidding, just one of the rings has sharktoothed and thats it, cassette rendered unusable The chain has apparently stretched a lot as well.. 350 Miles and I thought the EX1 was supposed to be designed for the extra strain delivered by the motor. I've not dongled the motor either so this is genuine use
  11. interesting read I upgraded to the EX1 as I tore through 2 cassettes and several chains on my Bergomont E-bike (3000 miles). EX1 ?.. cassette has lasted 350 miles !.. I clean and oil the chain after each ride and yes its been a filthy winter, but 350 miles for a £400 cassette is really poor in my eyes. I'm now stuck wondering what to do, should I go for another EX1 cassette and risk the same happening again ?.. I'm sure I've just been very unlucky here and had a duff cassette. For what its worth, upto the cassette failing it was pretty faultless, shifting was a joy and hardly any noise from the chain, improved battery life etc..
  12. I'm having a nightmare with mine !.. done 3,600 miles since I bought it, in that time I've: Replaced both wheels due to original ones snapping spokes Replaced the chain guide sproket bearings every 200 miles (they just fail for fun !) Had a new lower swing arm and chain guide spindle in an attempt to resolve the above (still failing) Wore out 3 cassettes and several chains before replacing whole drive train with SRAM EX1 system. I thought this would give me better chain and cassette life, sadly this isn't the case and one of the rings on the cassette has worn out after 350miles !.. now got a complaint in with SRAM as £400 for a new one as its one of the fixed rings thats failed. I'm on my 3rd Bosch motor too.. 1st one started to clunk after 2000Miles, the 2nd failed pretty much within the 1st week so was probably just unlucky with that one. I clean the bike after pretty much every ride, I'm pretty anal about this due to how quickly I'm tearing through bearings, chains and cassettes. I'm now starting to wonder if this bike was the right choice for me as I must have spent over £1500 on the bike since July 2017
  13. damn.. hope you get it fixed soon mate.. great bike
  14. Yep, same bike. Just took delivery of it and did a quick 19mile ride around sherwood pines. So much fun, I can't wait to get out again tomorrow
  15. I've just ordered one of these from Voltz in Blidworth, they kindly lent me one of their own personal bikes to have a go on. I had a good thrash round Sherwood pines and it was a game changer for me.. now got to wait 2 weeks for delivery, I'm like a kid at christmas !
