  1. Just seen an Orbea Katu 3 speed with 400 w Bosch battery for £1000. Retail at £1800 I think. Bike has 1000 miles on it. Dealer will change sprocket and chain. Any views on this bike? Is 1000 mile second hand bike risky. Had a 20 ride and quite liked it. Appreciate any views
  2. I assume that I (dealer) will have to service bike. My main point is are there any brands/makes of bikes that are solidly reliable and have longevity. Maybe I'm better off getting a cheaper bike ie woosh Rio or wisper 705se no disrespect and replace it with another similar price bike every 3 years? That works out with maintenance to about £400 cost per year
  3. Looking to buy an ebike that can do roughly 4000 miles a year on mostly tarmac roads with 20% in hllly areas and hopefully last me for 4 years. Am prepared to spend up to £1500. Is there such a bike? You're views appreciated.
  4. Sorry guys. I think I've pressed something I shouldn't have!
  5. Yes the kalkhoff Tasman has front suspension.
  6. Yes thanks John. I think you're right. As in most of life I guess it enjoy what you have. Still tempted by a cheaper emtb like the woosh Rio tho. Anyone got one who would like to comment? Even considering the big bear by whoosh but wonder if these bikes can last a long time bearing in mind they retail at about 1k? Appreciate any views
  7. Have a 2 yr old very low mileage kalkhoff Tasman. Runs great but only 350 miles. Thinking of now doing trails so possibly looking at a hybrid or emtb. Question. Do I sell current bike and get a good bike for £2k ish or keep bike and get a cheaper emtb. Say something like a woosh Rio or equivalent? Grateful for any views.
  8. Thanks all. Some good points. As I'm out of warranty I will stick with bike and load on some miles. If motor goes will just have to swallow a new motor which I believe is £600? I have had the latest software updates so don't know if that will prevent motor failure? Hope it does make a difference because it's actually a nice bike to ride.
  9. Ha ha. Just starting to use bike daily now. Am wondering if it's worth selling in anticipation of a problem which might happen. Did the motor problem affect all impulse drives?
  10. Thanks for quick reply. Does this problem affect all impulse motors, a majority or just a few? Wondering if I should sell bike now just in case a problem develops? Also if I had a problem out of warranty but with very little mileage, do you think 50 cycles or kalkhoff would replace the motor? Appreciate any views
  11. First ever post! I have a kalkhoff Tasman 2 yr old bike with only 275 miles on it. Haven't heard any clacking noises from the impulse 2.0 motor. Can I assume the motor is ok? On a separate note, I bought from 50 cycles in Shoreham and have received nothing but good service and advice on the times I've popped in. Despite the negative press in these forums I can only say I am pleased so far with their service. I appreciate of course that the true test is when you have a problem. Would appreciate views on my 2 year old 275 mile impulse motor. Cheers
  12. Just joined the forum. Great resource for those of us involved in ebikes. Seen a lot of adverse criticism against kalkhoff and 50 cycles. Had my Tasman 8 for 2 years now and haven't had a problem. Took it into 50 cycles in Shoreham and have nothing but praise for the help and advice given. Must admit that my bike is only coming up for 300 miles! Would I have heard the infamous clacking from the impulse motor by now and can assume my bike is ok if I haven't experienced a noise? Appreciate your views
