  1. No JE James very kindly sent me a rubber sleeve to slide over the connection. I did however apply ACF50 to the replacement ride control switch. Dario
  2. Hi chap Just to repeat that I had the same problem which was solved when I was given a replacement display under warranty. What happened next was that the controller started playing up when exposed to the rain. Again this appears to have been solved by fitting a replacement unit under warranty. Hope this helps Dario
  3. Hi Guys First time out in heavy rain (it was only an hour though) on Sunday with updated function switch. Pleased to report no issues whatsoever. Hopefully this is the end of problems when riding in the rain. I will of course post updates as i have them. Dario
  4. To the OP. I am sorry that i appear to have hijacked your thread. If you would rather i start a new thread just say. New parts arrived (function button, wiring loom and display). First up tried everything as was. Dropped the battery into the frame and the display DID NOT boot up. Pressed the button and it switched on and off fine as normal. I half expected this to happen as the bike had been sitting in the warm and dry of the house for a couple days. So definitely a water ingress problem. As far as i am concerned the water was entering the function switch. With this in mind i have only changed this switch (also to keep the changes to as few as possible in an effort to confirmed what has failed). I have to say that visually there is no discernable difference between the units. I was expecting there would be as it is supposed to be an upgraded. I sprayed a little ACF50 around the switch and let it seep in. I will post again once i have been out in the rain. Dario
  5. Just off the phone to James at JE James cycles. James was very helpful. It appears the problem lies with the switch. Not that Giant are admitting this but they have released an updated (read more water resistant) switch. For his part James will send me the new switch. Not only this James is sending a new display unit and a new wiring loom. To top it all James has offered to cover the labour charge from my local dealer if I cannot fit these items myself. This is what I call customer service. Cannot thank James and JE enough. Will let you guys know how I get on once new parts are fitted. :-)
  6. Hi woosh.I hear what you are saying but not sure i would agree if you are saying it's normal for displays to fogg up. I am a motorcyclist and i got out in all weather. My bikes have LCD displays and i have never had one fogg up (even when left damp and wet in the garage). I think we all can agree that you should be able to ride in the rain without it causing a problem to any part of your Ebike. Lets be clear we are not talking fording rivers just normal on and off road use. Dario
  7. It's not the display now thats causing the problem. First display fogged up. Replacement display fitted on Sunday. Tested and was working fine. Went out for a ride and it started raining. When i got home the display would not switch off. Yes you could turn it off but it would immediately reboot. Unplugged the replacement display and plugged the original and now that to does not switch off and reboots. Only common denominator here is the rain. Spoke JEJames (from whom i bought the bike) they said get it into your local dealer and get them to hook it up to the computer. Tomorrow i shall call Dales here in Glasgow and see what response i get. I think a call to Giants head office in the UK might be in order. Really dont see why after having paid 3k for this bike in January i have to do this running about.
  8. Thanks Rob. I have the bike in kitchen at the moment. Have taken the plastic bash plate off. Was not much moisture there but have dried it up. In the next week or so i shall drop the motor down and then give the connections/plugs a good spray of ACF 50. Hopefully this will stop this happening in the future. Don't see me getting much use out the bike if it cannot be ridden in the rain. Dario
  9. Apologies to the OP as it appears as if i am taking over their thread. An IP rating of 66 or 67 would be much better. Update on display. Just switched over to the original display and that to is now powering on independently and reboots as soon as its turned off. So this appears to be a new fault altogether. Looks like i will need to take into Dales in Glasgow for them to plug it into their computer. However i repeat how a manufacturer can sell a bike with components that fail when exposed to rain is totally beyond me. Don't remember any point of sale material that said not fit to ride in rain. Dario
  10. Hi Rob Thanks for the info. Please excuse my ignorance but what is it that I need to disconnect? As I see it there are two cables that connect to the display. Other than that I don't see anything else. Your help is much appreciated. Dario
  11. IP rated? IP 67 or IP 68 Dario
  12. Well got round to changing my display yesterday. Changed it and checked that was working okay, turning on,off and showing readouts. Went out in the rain and the new unit did not fog up. Success or so I thought. When I got home a new problem arose. The new display unit would not power down. AS soon as I switch if off it immediately turned back on. I will try refitting the old display unit. If that works (ie switches on and off) I will be asking for another display unit. Touching on a point made in the previous post. Why would a manufacturer equip a MTB with a display unit that is not IP rated? Has someone forgot to tell them it rains a lot here in the UK. If it does not work don't supply it as standard with the bike. Reminds me of when I owned a Vauxhall VX220. When it rained it would leak badly. Service manager said that it was not designed to be used in the rain DOH! A set upgraded roof/door seals solved that particular problem.
  13. Hi guys and thanks for the replies. Another question sorry. Is there a 1000w battery on the market available for the Giant E+1 full 2017? Does the size of the battery increase with capacity? Thanks Dario
  14. Hi all. I did a quick search but i did not find an answer so here goes. Has anyone purchased a bigger capacity battery for their Ebike. I currently have a Giant MTB with the 500w battery and wondered if a more powerful unit was available to extend the bike's range. Now this totally left field but has anyone tried to hook up a solar panel to help charge a battery on the go? Could a panel be attached to a rucksack to top up your charge as you cycle along? I have no idea if such a set up is possible/feesible but thought someone on here might know. Thanks in advance Dario
  15. My display has done the same ie fogging up in the rain. I had a new unit sent to me as my bike is still under warranty. As yet i have not gotten round to fitting the replacement display.
  16. Not been on a bike regularly for years and live at the top of a hill. Being 55 coming on 56 and being rather too fond of the pies it would be near impossible (totally exhausting) for me to ride back up the hill where i stay. This morning i thought i would have a quick go on my Giant full E+1(mu2017). Well i crunched a few gears and wobbled a fair bit but despite that i managed two laps round the block. On the second i went even further down hill. I did have to put some effort in (that was always part of the plan) but i managed it without exhausting myself. Looking forward to some longer days in the saddle once the better weather arrives. Thinking i could start each day with an early morning cycle just build up some fitness. All in all well chuffed (with the bike and myself) :-)
  17. Hi everyone. Decided that I would like to get back on a bike again. Being rather fond of the occasional fish supper and no very fit I thought ebike would be the way to go. My Giant MTB arrives this week. I have a mountain bike track on my doorstep (Cathkin Braes Glasgow) so no excuse not to get out. Look forward to catching up with anyone around my way. Dario
