  1. Exactly! I quite liked the quaint bell it comes with but then once I started riding it, I realised I didnt need it. If Im free-wheeling, people hear the approaching ticking noise, or if Im using the motor then they hear the humming sound. Makes me a bit self conscious but Im sure I'll get used to it.
  2. Thanks guys. The clicking/ticking noise is very regular - I counted 20 per revolution. Its similar in sound to the rear wheel but louder. When the motor is on, the noise stops. I think it must just be a feature of the hub motor. I got the bike online and there nearest store is over 2 hours drive away so would like to avoid that option if possible. I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes. If/when I take the bike for a service, do you know if they will open up the hub motor itself and check that too?
  3. Got my Powabyke X-6 today Very pleased with it overall but was surprised by the significant continual clicking noise of the hub motor when riding. As this is my first ebike, Im not sure if this is normal. From some posts on here, I am guessing it is the sound of the ratchet in the hub motor as opposed to it being faulty. Can anyone confirm this and possibly describe how I might know whether the level of noise it makes is to be expected? Thanks in advance.
  4. I havent made any complaint yet , I was merely enquiring. You sound paranoid . I think world+dog would agree a junior member with constructive comments is more valuable than a senior member who wastes time and screen estate:rolleyes: . That gives me another (constructive) idea - how about adding polls to the forum? UPDATE: Just put my specs on and seen the polls section on the right and the Report Post icon on top right of each post. Now, where's wotwozwhocarez post....
  5. Some great ideas (with the exception of wotwozwhocarez), keep'em coming. I'll have to stick to the bare essentials for now as not much money left after the outlay for the bike itself but will create a wishlist that should do for birfday and xmas pressies for a while!! Thanks again!
  6. I think it woud be good to have sections based on manufactrurer as when I was choosing a bike, it was a slog to do a search for the name and then find the post not really that relevant. I think manufacturer specific forums could help users get answers to their bike-specific questions easier. Also, is there an way to report a post or user? There are few offensive ones but there is the odd user who makes dozens of posts but add zero benefit to the site.
  7. Thanks everyone! OK, so shopping list so far (as per others' posts) is... Spare inner tube medium sized "mini" pump with retractable flexible air pipe High security lock and extra cables hi vis jacket (with a zipped air vent) Alkaline batteries (in waterproof wrapping) Spanners and Allen keys Puncture repair kit Waterproof coat and over trousers / light nylon overtrousers So far, I have ordered the new york 3000 u-lock from Leisure Lakes Bikes as part of my cyclescheme voucher with the Powabyke. Wasnt sure how this rated so hope its ok. Still need to order the rest though. My day job is in IT so I know where to get the best prices on IT stuff but not sure where to start with bike gear. Are there any online suppliers that regularly pop up as the cheapest place to buy accessories? And any specific recommendations for the items above? Id particularly like to know where to get a large (probably XXL) hi vis jacket for by tall but slim 6'8" frame (that's me, not the bike!)
  8. My original question (which i edited down after essexman's response advising me to look elsewhere-didnt want to wast anyone time and couldnt delete the post) was about what essentials should I carry in a kit bag for my e-bike that will be making a 4-5 mile daily commute. I was thinking along the lines of puncture repair kit, spare light batteries etc and wondered if anyone else had any other ideas.
  9. Hi Everyone! I'm hoping to tap into your collective minds for some advice.....
  10. Frank, given the change of battery was due to last minute reasons, are there any longer term plans to introduce a new range of batteries for the X-Byke which will a) look more aesthetically pleasing (though I do not find the current design too bad) and/or b) have a greater capacity? As a soon-to-be Powabyke owner, I would appreciate knowing there are some long term plans for the X-byke so I know it wont be superceded too soon and therefore hard to get replacements parts etc for it.
  11. Thanks, alsmith, I look forward to seeing them. Is this the sort of battery you ordered? This says its for 400-800W motors so do you think it would cause problems on the 250W Powabyke hub motor?
  12. I was recently sent a brochure from Powabyke and it shows the rocket launcher battery , same as on their web site, so I think its just an old stock photo. I think Powabyke probably dont try too hard to get retailers to update their photos as its probably in their benefit.
  13. Sounds fascinating! Would be interested to hear how you intend to fix it to the bike and perhaps some pics, if you'd be kind enough to oblige!
  14. What's your alternative solution? Presumably it doesnt involve the original batteries??
  15. Thanks Paul, There seems to be some great prices on that site. I have asked them for a quote for the bike and all the bits (helmet, lock, lights and computer) which all comes to £875 inlcuding £10 delivery. Only disappointing thing about them is they classify the electric bikes under 'Women's Road Bikes' I asked them about forks but said they couldnt do it. I figure I'll give it a year and may re-apply for another voucher next year to get spare battery, forks etc (assuming you can get more vouchers!?!)
