Etech Motion ebikes
Really strange design on the Cargo bike they going for a old school motorcycle drum brake wtf! Hard to imagine that design as lightweight compared to modern bicycle disc brakes.

Replacement motor/controller/wiring loom for Byocycle chameleon
The Volt also has a suspension seat post which I take out and use on the Byocycle also. That could be an option for you in the short term it, does help. Something like this Link

Replacement motor/controller/wiring loom for Byocycle chameleon
Sounds sweet, that's not massively heavy for those specs with your nice big battery. I may try a mid drive conversion with my volt metro when controllers and wires start to corrode etc as they have with the byocycle.

Replacement motor/controller/wiring loom for Byocycle chameleon
I'm not sure that would work with my folding frame, it's very low to the ground already and has the protective bar/rest under the bottom bracket which may inhibit fitting the mid drive motor, what bike do you have? I am quietly confident for a bargain basement refit the kit I have bought will be fine. The bike wouldn't handle anything with much power as it has v brakes which in my experience will soon wear out alloy rims. All my future ebikes will have disc brakes. My Byocycle is 6 years old and has plenty of use riding to work and back and also many off road excursions down remote footpaths along rivers looking for good fishing spots. I also have a Volt metro which cost double the byocycle but shredded its nylon gears trying to hang with the byocycle and its old MXUS XF06 motor, seemingly indestructible. Luckily the volt was still under warranty at the time. After taking the MXUS motor apart to examine and seeing the Volts spintech motor innards, the Cheaper MXUS motor had much more robust looking planetary gears. The unbranded the motor in the kit I bought looks exactly like the MXUS Xf07 in pictures so hoping it's at least as good if not better than the original motor in my Chameleon.

Thanks for all your enthusiastic replies yay. If anyone is interested I bought the kit above for £147 from ebay.co.uk, it was delivered 4 days later. I am going to install it probably 25th / 26th of April as I'm off work those days.

Replacement motor/controller/wiring loom for Byocycle chameleon
Hi all, Can anyone point me in the direction of a good conversion kit (20" rear wheel) that I can use for my Byocycle Chameleon. I have looked on ebay.co.uk and Amazon and seen this ebay link but I'm not sure of the motor as no details on brand. I have a fairly new 15AH 36v battery which has been running fine so I don't really want to splash out on another battery. If possible would like to have a 20" wheel included ready laced .I have laced a new rim on my old motor but it didn't work out very cost effective cost £35 for rim and £30ish for spokes. So if I can get a conversion kit for between £150 and £250 which includes controller, display, pas, wires, brake levers, plus wheel with motor this seems much more cost effective. I may consider paying more for higher power and quality. I'm not seeing many 20" rear wheel kits about hence this post. Many thanks , Jason

Hi I'm Jason from Bedford
Too many fools flying around on overpowered scooters atm! I don't want to change the laws for current e-bikes 25kph with no licence needed is great. I have 2 folding bikes atm, a Byocycle Chameleon which I have just respoked the MXUS f06 hub motor to a new rim and a Volt Metro. It's the type approval for speed pedelecs that needs sorting I would like one for longer journeys, 20 plus miles on roads. I was just thinking how good it would be if they could make a limit button on them so they could still be used on cycle lanes, lol wishful thinking probably. As I said I have a full bike licence and would wear the required equipment etc. I don't think I would invest in building one myself as I may have trouble type approving and insuring it and the ones on sale by shops with type approval are all of the expensive German variety.

Hi I'm Jason from Bedford
Yes, I could build one or buy a cheaper model but not sure how easy it would be to type approve it and get insurance. The government needs to sort the type approval laws as they are strangling a growing market. I would like to have a go at building a bike with a Bafang BBSHD motor at some point.

Hi I'm Jason from Bedford
Speed pedelecs are already legal and do 28mph they are just ridiculously expensive. I am happy to tax and insure one just want one at a reasonable price. Registered Speed pedelecs I want to be able to carry my bike up to my first floor flat for security I can't do that with a heavy e-moped but could with a registered speed pedelec. Speed pedelec prices Moped prices Mopeds are much cheaper than the speed pedelecs is all I'm saying and that hopefully in the future more sensible prices for speed pedelecs with come.

4th Wisper on order, what to do with the old ones…
My bro is looking for a bike atm Chris you have any pictures? I'm sure he would give u £100 plus for the frame and a good motor. If he just had to add a battery would give him more scope to spend on a better battery.

Help wanted - battery for KTM e-style p
I think It might be easier to adapt to a more modern universal battery. Perhaps buy a battery/ back rack combination and change your connectors to fit the new battery. anything between 36 and 48 volts should be fine though for similar power would go with 48 volts.

Hi I'm Jason from Bedford
Hi all, I love E-bikes but feel we are being taken for a ride in the UK with specs and prices. I have a full UK motorcycle license, I was a motorcycle courier across the UK for around 7 years between 1990 and 2000 (a lot of time spent going to London and other major cities) was also a young fool back then I don't understand how I can buy an e-moped for between £1500 and £4000 with A 40 AH battery and up to 5000w motor but if I want a speed pedelec I have to pay between £3000 and £7000 for a machine with less power and range that I still have to use on roads only as not allowed on cycle lanes. Companies could easily build speed pedelecs to sell for around the £1500 mark all they need really is a brake light. I believe that radical changes are needed regarding e-bike and other electric vehicle laws and we need to petition the government to speed up their view on these matters as it is very much in line with their own environmental targets and a superfast growing market ( you only have to see the number of youths with illegal scooters to realize that change is needed fast). I think e-bikes should be able to go 30mph on the road as this could reduce accidents in 30mph limit areas as cars wouldn't need to do risky overtakes of cycles but they should have a button for cycle lanes that limits them to 15mph, I think a 15 mph limit is fair on cycle lanes shared with pedestrians). We rely on car owners to stick to the speed limits so shouldn't be a problem for us bikers. I think a dedicated cycle lane speed restrict button to do this would be a good idea to simplify things though. Could even be some kind of App that could monitor this that users would have to sign up for to enable policing of cycle lane use. Please give thoughts on this and how we could be lobbying or speeding up the government's thinking etc. You only have to look at the USA e-bike market to see that there's a lot more potential out there and we are well behind the times in the realization of it. Happy e-biking and Warm regards, Jason

Petition to legalizing throttle only eBikes for the disabled
I looked at mopeds and motorbikes as I have a full motorcycle license but there is a lot of extra expense, also security issues need to be considered, with a lightweight bike you can take it into your house or flat and with a pushbike you can still use cycle paths. The price of 28mph pedelecs is ridiculous atm, mopeds are cheaper. If I thought I could safely store it outside I would have seriously considered one of these https://www.green-mopeds.com/super-soco-cux-178-p.asp I am competent with motorcycle and cycle mechanics so the ease of maintaining a cycle is also a plus point to having an electric bike rather than a moped. I opted for a Volt metro folding bike with front and rear discs which are needed on an Ebike with a hub motor, the rims wear out far to quickly with a rim brake version meaning respoking the wheel hub each time (experienced with Byocycle chameleon). To sum up, it's obvious to us (users of Ebikes) that the laws are outdated and need changing maybe new classifications etc, this is a fast-growing industry and many more will be appearing on our streets which will have safety implications as there will be plenty of fools no doubt trying to ruin it for us all, I guess I'm just impatient for it to happen, then again we may like them even less when they do .

Petition to legalizing throttle only eBikes for the disabled
I can't use my bike at the moment because of a bad knee and it's my only reliable form of transport to and from work. I don't have a car license and couldn't afford to run one if I did, same with a moped or motorcycle. I don't feel that there is any difference using my bike with a throttle or without, the pedals work as a throttle and it goes the same speed, you can leave it in 1st gear so you aren't actually putting any effort in so you may as well be using a throttle anyway. Also this would allow for scooters to be used which are ideal for people to take on trains etc due to lightweight. It's time the law caught up with the time and tech available.

UK petition to raise cut-off limit
At the end of the day ebikes are a much more cost-effective way of commuting to work without sweating and stinking when you get there. It is a growing market, roads will be safer with more bikes and less cars (your much less likely to kill someone at 30 mph on a 20-30kg bike than a 1500kg car) obviously the laws need updating with new classes of vehicle, new mot's and safety laws etc. I agree the 15 mph limit is fine for vehicles classed as bicycles for riding on pavements and cycle paths but speed pedelecs will take off, personally as I said before I'm happy riding in the road and paying insurance. This petition is pointless, it's more classes of ebike we need and rules that make them easier to type approve but maintain safety with mot checks and age limits etc.
