Advice needed please: BBS02 with 52v battery
Thanks for the reply, how do you drop it to 20amps? Am i right to think the max wattage would then be 52v X 20amps =1040 watts?.

Advice needed please: BBS02 with 52v battery
Hi All, I could do with some advice please, Does anyone on here run a BBS02 with a 52v battery? Is it safe to run this motor at that voltage? I have no experience with mid mount motors, My kit at the moment is the Kirby ebike kit ( 29er MTX39 rim kit on a Cube 29er hardtail ) so i was looking for any help possible to guide me with my next purchase choice. My idea is to strip the kit off of the Cube 29er , Keep the 52v battery that came with it and buy either the BBS02 or the BBSHD kit to fit to another 29er bike i have. The new bike has Thru axles front and rear, a more modern 1X11 transmission and is a bit more up to date than the Cube, due to having a thru axle on the rear i cannot transfer the Kirby kit onto it, plus i would like to try a mid mount motor on my next build. I would sell the kirby kit ( Hub motor wheel, cassette, controller, throttle and display, basically everything except the battery) and put that money to a new mid motor, I believe the BBS02 is smaller in physical size , 4 lbs lighter but less powerful and about £250 + cheaper. Can it be run at 52v safely? Or do you advise the BBSHD? but that is at least £700+ when you factor in the shift sensor and a bling ring. All opinions and advice welcome please. Thanks in advance .

KirbEbike 1500-2000w kit with 58v 17Ah battery
So, I've had my kit for 9 months now and i just thought I'd let people know how my experience has been so far. To be honest it has been a love/hate affair up to this point, the good bits are: I built a super stable bike that when you do go 30mph ( off road obviously )it is rock solid and feels like your only doing half of that, maybe i over built it as it weighs just shy of 60lb. I built it on a cube HT mtb ( pics on BPEB's web site where i purchased the kit from or google kirbebike cube build and you'll see it there). Running 140mm Boost forks with 35mm stanchions and a 3" plus size Maxxis tyre up front and i fitted a Schwalbe marathon GT knobbly rear tyre with slime tube as i didn't want to risk getting any punctures, the downside to the rear tyre/tube combo is they weigh an extra 4lb on top of the already heavy rear hub MTX wheel. Quality Renthal cockpit and with it being an hard tail i also fitted a Suntour suspension seat post which i have to admit makes a massive difference to the comfort on our pot holed roads. So in all honesty i am happy with the build i made, now onto the not so good bits: After about 2 weeks ( and i only used it about 3 times in that period) when i came to power the bike up the screen would turn on then go off after a second or so, I'd turn the battery back off and on again then turn the screen on and it would do the same thing, repeating this process a few times would eventually get the screen to stay on. At first i thought it was how I'd connected the wiring up but after checking everything all seemed ok, I lived with this for the first 4-5 months as i didn't use it that often but it started to take longer to stay on so i thought enough is enough and got in contact with Paul at Bournemouth performance ebikes where i purchased the kit from, I explained in a text what was happening and he immediately replied telling me what the problem was. Turns out he found out from Andy that there was a bad batch of batteries released mid last year ( mine was one of them) where the soldering on the on/off switch on the battery was poorly done and the contact switch was tarnished meaning it didn't make a proper contact ( i don't understand any of that as I'm not electrically minded) his advice was that Andy had told him if you spray electrical contact cleaner on and around the switch and work the switch on and off it sorts it out, Paul then gave me permission to open the battery to see if i could spray the switch from inside as well but it was covered in what looks like hot melt glue so that didn't make much difference ( i did mention to Paul that there's a sticker saying the warranty will be void if opened but he gave me permission to do it). This did seem to sort the issue at first but as i don't use the bike that frequently i find I'm having to do it every time i come to use the bike which i am not happy about. I am in discussion with Paul at the moment on how we sort this under warranty as it's an issue they are aware of ( even Andy's mate on youtube, Dudestuff covered the switch issue in one of his video's but blamed it on dust not the poor quality soldering lol ) Next issue I'm having is the screen fogs up with moisture, mainly noticeable when powered off but I'm not happy with this either, He tells me this is normal and to be expected ?? Is this true? So at this very moment in time i wouldn't recommend this kit to anybody based on my experience, there may be others out there who haven't had these problems but i have and stand by my decision. I'm just hoping Paul takes these issue's seriously and sorts the battery for me, it may be a simple fix like fitting a new switch which i will be happy with if he organizes this, it isn't something i can do as i have no experience with this type of thing. Sorry for the essay but thought i'd share my feelings with others just to let them know what problems they can be getting themselves into.

My Kirbebike cube build
Out of curiosity How much do you think the bike is worth if I was to sell it on?

My Kirbebike cube build
Hi, Yes I agree, I will be looking for a better solution to my torque arm problem. Ideally fabricating something that fastens to the holes in the rear drop outs that are there. Apart from those and the size of the loop I've left where the cable enters the hub motor are there any other areas I could improve?

My Kirbebike cube build
Hi All, just thought I'd share a few pics of my 1st ever Ebike build on my cube sl Ltd 29er. I made a few tasty upgrades which included a 140mm boost fork and a boost front wheel running a 3" maxxis tyre, larger 203mm front XT rotor, Renthal fat bars and Apex stem and a suspension seat post to soften the potholes. Its got a schwalbe marathon plus gt rear tyre and slime tube ( which added an extra 4lbs in weight to the back wheel ) All in all I'm happy with the build but it wasn't as straight forward as Andy's video would allow you to believe. Riding in pas5 I've had over 40mph and with the upgraded front end it feels so stable. Used as a commuter bike ( the odd dirt track/paths but not proper off roading) really comfortable and handles the speed really well. Let me know your thoughts please and if you see something that's not right please let me know. Thanks .

B'spoke/custom battery builder required-any recommendations please?
Hi, I've decided I can't bare to part with my beloved Canyon 29er so I've decided that I'm going to invest in the Bbshd 1000w mid drive motor kit and then try and have a bag type battery made up to fit my triangle. Can anyone recommend me a good honest quality battery builder in the UK? Maybe it would help if it took them my bike to get the correct measurements before they build the battery? Can anybody see any potential issues I may run into doing this build or offer me some good advice on the build please? Thanks in advance.

How much room do i need for downtube battery please?
Hi again, So after spending weeks trawling through eBay and Gumtree and a wasted 5 hr round trip to look at a E bike I've decided I'm definitely going to get a bbshd and battery for my canyon. My problem is the limited space in the front triangle due to the tube shapes, so could I have a battery built to fit in there? If so can anybody recommend a battery builder in the uk, I'm based in the Notts area for reference and would ideally like to not have to trawl half way around the uk to find one. All help appreciated. Thanks.

Advice on bbshd kit needed please
So is it possible then to put a rear hub motor (700c) in the carbon frame? Am I right in thinking they have alloy in the frame where the wheels and rear mech hanger fasten too? Could anybody recommend a decent hub wheel and battery combination that would be suitable for the build. It would be great if I could use the bike I have and make a fast commuter bike, my requirements would be something that could happily travel between 25 to 30 mph with my pedal input and a range of 30 plus miles. Many thanks Jay.

How much room do i need for downtube battery please?
Hi, I have a very good spec full suspension mtb I would love to convert to a Ebike but because of the rear suspension design and shape of the down tube I don't know if I can fit a battery using the bottle mounts. This would be my preferred way as I think it generally looks neater and keeps the weight in a more central position. A simple option would be to sell the bike and buy a hard tail mtb but for the money I would get I'd be swapping a very good bike for a average hardtail if that makes sense so would prefer to use my bike if possible. Can anyone give me any dimensions please if you have one or could you recommend an alternative method of placing the battery. Just for reference I will be using it as a commuter bike more than off road one and I'll fit slicker tyres to reduce drag. I was thinking of going bbshd route and 48/52v 17 ah battery if that helps. Thanks in advance for any help. Jay.

Advice on bbshd kit needed please
Thanks for all the helpful replies, much appreciated. The reason I was asking about a build on a carbon framed bike is because I have a brand new bike I bought but haven't got around to using as when i do get out i either use my full suss mtb or my other giant carbon road bike. To be fair i bought this new bike on a bit of a whim and I'm in the process of trying to sell it. Rather than take a big ££ hit on the bike i wondered if i could use it as the base for my build hence this post. From looking at the responses i have recieved it would seem to back up what i already thought...I'd be better off getting a 29er hardtail mtb to use and selling the road bike ,( even though I'll lose money on it). It's a shame my canyon mtb only has a small triangle or I'd have used that and had a top quality full suss ebike. Can anyone recommend a decent hardtail that i could use for a straight forward easy build? Thanks again Jay.

Advice on bbshd kit needed please
Hi all, My name is Jay and this is my 1st post on here. I’m in a bit of a dilemma at the moment,I’m looking to have a go at building my 1st ebike and have decided on the bafang bbshd kit. My problem is this...I have a carbon road bike I would like to fit it to but I’m unsure wether it’s possible to fit the motor to a carbon frame without causing damage to it, has anyone else done this or does anyone know if it’s possible. It will be used as a light weight commuter for a 9 mile each way trip. Would it be easier to sell the bike and buy a alloy mtb 29er to do the build on. Thanks in advance for your help. Could anybody recommend a uk supplier of these kits too. Thanks Jay.
