Quando 1 & 2 Tyre Size
I've got a Quando 1 and a Quando 2 that need new tyres, the 1 due to sidewall problems and the 2 due to lack of tread. The 1 has Kendo 2.125" wide tyres fitted and the 2 has Schwalbe 2" wide tyres fitted, I've also managed to get hold of a set of Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres in 1.75" width. So the options are: Fit the 1.75" tyres to one of the bikes and get new ones for the other - which bike gets the 1.75" tyres and what to put on the other bike? Get new tyres for both bikes - suggestions? Is it worth getting the same size for both bikes or does the rear suspension make a difference?

Tread Patterns
Thanks, I'll try and get another set of Kendas. How much tread should I change them at? The Quando 2 didn't have much tread on it's tyres when new (2mm?) and with it being ridden the majority of time by my non leaning partner they are just worn along the middle.

Tread Patterns
Quando 1 & 2 tyres Flecc, given that the Kenda tyres gave the best ride would you go with them again for your Quando or stick with your replacements despite the worse ride? I need new tyres for both my Quando 1 and the Quando 2, does the lack of suspension on the Quando 2 make a difference to the tyre choice? Are the standard tyres anything special? We've not had a puncture so far so maybe they are puncture resistant? Thanks Kevin

Replacement Ezee Motor Controller
It's been plugged and replugged several times and the fault every time moved to follow the controller and not the wheel - I had my Quando 2 next to it with the cable unclipped so I guess it's unlikely that switch cleaner would do it. Connector looks clean in any case and I've metered out the wires with a bit of thin fusewire in the connector. I await the reply from China. Cheers Kevin

Replacement Ezee Motor Controller
Many thanks, have emailed him. Any idea why a motor controller should just die like that? It worked in the UK, we air freighted it down under and it worked initially then died on the first ride. The batteries were sent separately at great expense. I'm fairly sure it hasn't been tampered with in transit as I did the strip down. The fault is something to do with the Hall Effect Sensors as it pulls away like a misfiring car and only gets smooth at max speed, looking at the circuit board there is nothing obvious like a dry joint and the wires test OK.

Replacement Ezee Motor Controller
The Motor controller on our Ezee Quando 1 has died (confirmed by swapping wheels with our Ezee Quando 2) and I was wondering whether I have to use a Ezee controller as a replacement or is there something else that is widely available and will slot in. The later Quando 2 is noticeably slower than the Quando 1 was so it would be good to find something that keeps the better performance of the earlier bike rather than slowing it down as per the later spec. Both bikes have the later lighter 36V 10A battery. We've moved to New Zealand so I'd appreciate any suggestions as to where I can get the parts from, so far a friendly auto electrician let me use his tools to diagnose things. Thanks in advance for your help

Flying with a folding electric bike
Has anyone taken an electric bike on a transatlantic flight? I'm travelling to New Zealand with a couple of days in Los Angeles and San Francisco and would like to take my folding Quando 2 with me. 2 of the legs are long haul with the trip between cities being on a domestic flight. Any suggestions? I'm guessing it's excess baggage charges but am I liable to run into problems when checking in and out of America?

Heavy Ezee Throttle
OK, thanks will keep messing with bent heavy duty paperclips!!

Heavy Ezee Throttle
Thanks for the reply, I think I'm going to go with the no spring offering. I see the 4 attachment points, any idea how to persuade them to separate?

Heavy Ezee Throttle
I've just received a replacement Ezee throttle after my original smashed when the bike fell over on the train. The replacement is very heavy to operate, is there any way of dismantling it and either removing or stretching the spring to make it lighter? Alternatively is there a different lighter throttle that can be fitted? This thing has more spring tension than my 1300CC bike throttle and that's heavier than I'd like!!! Thanks in advance Kevin

Quando 2 limp home mode at 8.7AH - is this normal?
Oddly enough my charger takes 6 watts when it's not plugged into the battery. The additional 5 watts I mentioned takes it up to 11 watts and that is the difference between battery plugged in and not plugged in once the green light has gone off.

Many thanks Flecc, I'll put it on a timeswitch.

How much power is needed for a hillclimbing folder?
Update on hill climbing Thought I'd update things. My other half had her knee ligament replacement 6 weeks ago and has started using her Quando 1. She is able to do the 7 mile journey between her home and the hydrotherapy pool both ways including climbing the mainly continuous 4 mile uphill drag over the Malvern hills without having to stop. She is unable to load the bike onto the train due to restrictions on lifting and turning but with this range she can cycle instead. Very happy with the result, and it's a lot more convienient than the invalid scooter and train that is her other mode of transport. Thanks everyone for your knowledgable help.

We both have the same battery, hers was dead when we bought the bike so we got a replacement. The different controller design would explain it. I'll try and note how the battery voltage alters as it discharges to see if the voltage makes sense, mine seems to take a nosedive towards the end especially when under load, although the capacity is correct if I hardly use the power. The charge mode goes yellow (charging for 5-6 hours) green (charged for a while) off (adding 7 watts into the battery as measured at the ac input) Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply Flecc. Do you know if the Quando 1 is faster than the Quando 2? I went out for the first time with my partner on her Quando 1 and she was easily pulling away from me on the flat despite claiming to not be on full throttle. Do you think the charge light off and 7 watts going into the battery mode of the charger is something to worry about?
