  1. so I dont have a multimeter to hand but I realised the battery does have a usb power outlet. Upon testing it initially there was no power to any of my devices then miraculously it started up and began charging again. What is that all about?!
  2. So does the Bosch bike battery comprise either an NMC or a NCA group of cells?
  3. Ah - so that advice goes against the information in the article you linked to which suggests sub zero charging is fine albeit at a slower rate than the optimal temp range of 20c. No I'm confused again!
  4. Thanks folks -This is really useful - concensus seems to suggest Bosch/lithium ion batteries can handle sub zero storage with no ill effects. As long as they are not charged whilst below freezing. I do charge the bike after riding in below freezing conditions but I guess that's fine to do as the batteries will be warmed up after 40 minutes of use?
  5. Hi Folks I have just bought a new Bosch powered bike with battery in downtime. Having lost both keys though (doh!) I'm no longer able to remove the battery and the bike is kept in sub zero celsius conditions in the bike shed. It's dry but it's cold. I cycle it into work where it's then stored and charged indoors at room temp 18c. I then ride it home to charge it outside and put it away in the shed where its kept overnight in the cold. Question is - Is this damaging the battery?
  6. I used a soft hose on mist setting so it should be fine definitely no more pressure than road spray would throw at it .Fingers crossed it should be ok...
  7. I will have a look at the weekend whenI get some luxury of daylight to see what's going on. If I cant use a hose to clean off a muddy, cruddy bike what would you recommend to wash it down and stop the parts from corroding with all the salt they chuck on Scottish roads?
  8. Great thanks. _i'll try that tonight as you suggested. I had previously washed the bike with a soft pressure hose and brush. Maybe water got into the motor. Is that where the controller is? If it's shorted is the whole thing a goner?
  9. Ohhh I wouldn't know how to take that kind of reading! The light's come on when I press the battery self test button though. Does that mean it's all good with the battery or could the fuse still be blown?
  10. Hi Folks Just wondering if any of you had experienced this and whether it was a quick easy fix. Attached the battery to the bike this morning and pressed the power on button on the display. Nothing. Initially thought the battery was the issue but it has full power. nothing else has changed since I last rode the bike other than it has been stored in a cold (1c) shed. What do you think the problem might be? Has anyone else been here before too? Crossing my fingers the controller isn't completely gubbed.
  11. Fair enough -I'm obviously expecting too much grunt from a bike that is happy to pootle along! I just got an electric scooter which can go 40mph+ so should I need the extra power I have it albeit in a completely illegal form!
  12. I get that. I think I might be a Bosch fanboy! Ive done 13200+ miles on my modded sport cx and it's not caused one problem. I think these units are built to last forever. Of course now I've just said that....
  13. Jeeez! After reading all of this I'm wondering why I bothered fitting a TSDz2. My modded Bosch Motor bike seems like the better option on every level. I just wanted a nice assisted bike not an electronics course/project. Then again maybe I didn't realise what I was getting into!
  14. So effectively, without a temp sensor I should regulate my power usage and go easy when I notice the motor is giving out less assist to the cranks than I feel it should? Getting a temp sensor fitted feels like a bit of a pain but I may be wrong!
  15. Crikey! I never knew I was going down such a rabbit hole. Naively I assumed it was a fit and forget system. Best start reading the posts and do some proper swatting!
  16. Definitely not 65c - more like 40c as in pleasantly warm to touch on after being out in the cold. How can I check if the windings are damaged? Are there any pics maybe?
  17. Should the motor feel warm to the touch after a period of usage (40mins)?
  18. But the whining only lasts for a few minutes of riding...?
  19. It's when I'm going up hills I notice the power drop-off so cadence is very low
  20. Well. Its a bit of a saga. Originally had a TSDz2 750w motor which I used for a year and after 3000km the blue gear wore so badly I lost all assist. Ordered a brass gear only to find I couldn't open the motor as the crappy Allen bolts rounded and had corroded and fused to the body of the motor. Bought new motor and immediately fitted the brass gear (and greased all the bolt threads!). All was fine until I noticed the first few minutes of riding started to produce a loud whine, which died away especially if I put some effort into the cranks. I am pretty sure the torque also dies away too though but have no way to measure that other than my gut feeling and feedback through the cranks. My Bosch 250w bike screams up inclines that the tsdz2 struggles with. I was just wondering whether that is normal or whether I need to open up the motor and check all the bits are in the right place. My guilty conscience tells me it's something I've done wrong!
  21. Hi All Not sure if this is a common problem or maybe not even a problem but having changed to a brass Gear cog, I cant help but be quite self conscious when I set off on my commute. The motor is properly loud for the first 5 minutes under load. Lots of torque initially which seems to dwindle along with the whirring/humming sound. Thereafter I'm pretty sure I'm not getting the full motor power for the rest of the journey (10 miles) Same issue happens from every cold start. Does anyone have an insight into what might be going on here? More grease necessary? Something else I cant think of or should be looking for? Thanks guys!
  22. At what point should I consider recelling the battery? It's at around 60% capacity of my new battery now. Should I just keep using it till it develops a fault?
  23. True - I'm going to have to face up to the fact there is no such thing as free power! Yet...
  24. True - it just niggles me every time. Just as well Bosch don't make watches as part of their day job.
