  1. Thanks Jonah, they look much stronger than the cheap plastic ones I have seen Buy cheap and pay twice is never a good option.
  2. I think you misread my post. Like I said, we have the bikes and I am aware you can buy folding pedals. I am looking for recommendations.
  3. Hi Guys, Can anyone recommend any folding type pedals for a standard frame style eBike please? We have 2 full size crossbar style eBikes that go in the “garage” area in our Motorhome. But getting them in and out would be much easier if it wasn’t for the pedals, so looking at folding pedal options.
  4. Thanks for the link, that answers the question perfectly. I will put the 4a charger in the Motorhome and leave the 2a charger at home.
  5. Hi Guys, We now have 2 different eBike, both Bosch systems. 1 has an in frame 500Wh Batter and a 36v/4amp charger, the other a rack mounted 300Wh battery and a 36v/2amp charger. Both chargers have the same plug at the battery end. My question is this, can I just take the 36v/4amp charger with us when we go away in the Motorhome and use it to charge both batteries (separately of course). Or would the 4amp charger over charge the smaller battery, or damage it by charging it too fast?
  6. I had the same bike for 10 years, it had 2 new frames, 3 headsets, 2 new motors, 5 new wheels and 15 new tyres, but it lasted me well :) Sorry, what can I say.. I'm an only fools and horses fan
  7. Also make sure you comparing the same bikes. There are 2019 models in most stores selling at discounted price because Raleigh have already started selling 2020 models.
  8. Well it took Raleigh over a week to get the answer, but for anyone wanting to know, the process is as follows. Screw 36mm nut fully into clamp assembly Align handlebars Apply light downward pressure on centre of handlebars Tighten top clamp bolt ONLY to 6-8Nm Lift collar to expose 36mm nut Unscrew 36mm nut to apply correct downward pressure to headset Tighten bottom clamp bolt to 6-8Nm
  9. Hi guys, Now I’m sorted, the wife is now looking to buy an eBike. It will be used as a shopper/local sightseeing bike, whilst we are away in the Motorhome. She was looking at the Raleigh StowEway but then came across the Volt Metro LS. For the extra £100 odd pounds the volt seems to win hands down. Better battery, disc brakes, suspension forks etc. What are the view on the Volt Metro LS please? Good bad or indifferent..
  10. It could have been a conversion ! That’s why I said it’s an eBike. I have been an engineer, mechanic and plane builder but that doesn’t stop stupid mistakes. The only stupid engineers are the ones who won’t ask for advice.
  11. It’s an eBike andy, the only thing inside the tube are electric cables and brake/gear cables. I’m guessing it’s a case of aligning the handlebars with the clamp bolts slack and the nut screwed fully into the clamp. Then tighten the clamp bolts and unscrew the nut until the play in the headset is taken up, without over doing it of course. But until someone confirms it on here or from Raleigh when they can be bothered responding I’m leaving it well alone
  12. I suppose if you ride enough your bound to have the odd spill. “Cue all the advanced cycling advice ”. The bike will fix and you walked away so count your blessings and cycle on mate.
  13. Yes you are correct the big nut is threaded. It’s actually a split nut threaded into the casting above the nut itself. To move the nut in or out you have to slacken off the clamp bolts above it. But then the whole assembly is free to turn and move up and down on the shaft. No way can it actually apply any tension? The owners handbook is generic and shows 2 types of headset, both have the traditional centre bolt so damn useless on this setup.
  14. Has anyone ever seen this setup on a headset? Specifically it has no centre bolt so no obvious means of tensioning the headset?
  15. If you knew what that word meant, even you would see the irony in that statement......
  16. When any city outside London starts to attract a fraction of the levels of tourists that London does, then maybe they too will be in a position to start forcing people onto public transport. That day however is never going to come but don't let the fact millions of tourists are propping up your subsidised public transport infrastructure interfere with your diktat to other cities. As for claiming you too suffered the pain of implementation until the process of change which was in the late 1990's and early 2000's. That was at a time of spending boom, especially in London, all be it based upon a growing deficit in the books. It was well before austerity cuts decimated infrastructure spending and individual household budgets. Yet you suggest we should suffer this pain in this new and very different backdrop? Wake up an smell the coffee..
  17. I agree with your statement, you are spot on when you state it is "Utter nonsense, London has proved a congestion charge works for everyone". No such thing has been proven, they continue to promulgate such rubbish to get as much from that specific cash cow as they can and they rely upon people like you to accept it as fact and pass it on. Notwithstanding the London "model", even if it were as effective as you are prepared to believe, that doesn't in any way shape or form give credence to the idea that it would work elsewhere. But hey, god forbid anyone outside 'the metropolis' should question the way its done down there. You will be telling me the Met are the best police service in the country next.
  18. I notice all the 'ban the car' brigade are conveniently ignoring the disable, delivery drivers, etc etc.
  19. It takes many decades for those living outside a city but working in it to filter through the system, introducing an overnight charge isn't going to address the problem, it is income generation, usually from those least able to afford it, and the ones who can pay it without batting an eyelid don't care so certainly won't be driven onto an inefficient, inhospitable, over priced public transport system. So blaming people for buying a house in the suburbs and getting a job in the city is yet more 'I'm alright jack' claptrap.
  20. So you commute off road from the one side of Manchester that does not have a tram system screwing up the road network. You don’t go anywhere near the routes from Altrincham, Eccles, Ashton, Oldham or Bury.. well good for you but hardly relevant to the adverse impact that compromised, late and over budget system has on the areas where it supposedly serves.
  21. You miss the considerable shortcomings of a tram system that was not wanted and failed spectacularly to deliver even remotely upon the promised benefits. Not to mention the fact it was mainly built on existing roads compounding congestion for the vast majority who don’t happen to live or work right at each end. As for asking the people who live and work here and are the ones directly impacted by any congestion charge, only the blindly arrogant would consider that ‘daft’.
  22. If Manchester already had an underground system like London does. If it had the investment in infrastructure, if it had been as densely populated as London was making car ownership prohibitive if not impossible then it’s a fair criticism of Manchester’s rejection. In the real world, other than the fact both London and Manchester are cities there is no comparison that would make it viable in today’s economic climate. This is a prime example of the north south decide failing to comprehend just how fortunate London is.
  23. I don’t think the rest of the country will ever achieve any sort of car ownership parity with inner London. The public transport system in London is not even close to being mirrored anywhere else in the country.
