  1. Vanmoof I’d never heard of. I like it’s design. After going out on my Dirt-E over the weekend and looking at a few bikes. I’ve decided I’m still more comfortable on a bike with flat bars . That’s a pity as some of the bikes I liked had drops. the research continues!
  2. One of my analog bikes was an Orbea. A lot of kit for the money. I’ll look at those.
  3. I'd never heard of "Speed Pedelecs". Reading up on them they may not be for me as they require registering with DVLA etc. I'm reasonably fit other than a knackered knee and thought it was motor drag stopping me from keeping up along with the sheer weight of the bike. Hence considered a carbon frame. However, it may not be as straightforward as that.
  4. All very helpful replies thanks. I had not looked at Woosh or Specialized. The Ribble I looked at. The only other two factors I forgot to mention were a reasonable battery size above 300w possible and I'm concerned about going from an 80nm torque motor to one half the torque. I mention this as the lower torque if I understand it right could require more effort from me on the steep inclines?
  5. I’ve ridden bikes for years. As I’ve got older my knee causes pain and discomfort on hills so moving to my Giant Dirt-E MTB solved that. I tend to ride around 30-40 miles at a time. I use lowest eco setting for 90% of my rides until I get to inclines and then go to max setting to get me up the hill. I’ve owned the 2018 model for over a year and it’s been reliable and fun. I intend to keep it for trails and gentle forest rides. However, I find cycling on roads with friends with non electric bikes hard work due to the weight of my Giant and what I suspect is drag from the motor above 15 mph. I struggle to keep up! So I’m on the search for a second bike. At first I considered a road bike due to lighter frame such as carbon. But they usually have smaller batteries and I reminded myself that I’m not keen on drop bars due to weight on wrists. I looked at a Giant fast road flat bar bike which looks like my dirt E with slicker tyres but can’t be sure it would not have the same drag issue? Any thoughts on alternatives that are lighter than my Dirt E, faster on tarmac and have flat bars? I’m struggling to find anything. I have a budget of £4500 Cheers
  6. Update: I got the bike back yesterday after the LBS removed the motor mounting bolts and lubricated them. The bike is creaking no more. Let's see how long it lasts but for £30 I'm happy.
  7. Thanks all. The local bike shop who did the previously mentioned work has agreed to lubricate and check the bolts for me next week. The link above is helpful too should I need to send the motor away. Cheaper than a new bike!
  8. Ouch! Thanks for the link sad reading but helpful info. I paid a lot of money second hand for the bike. Which didn't make this sound until the bike shop replaced the past. With this information Ill contact them. Cheers
  9. I bought a used Giant Dirt-E+2. All going well until a local bike shop noticed that the cassette, chainring, and chain were worn. I arranged for them (a Giant Dealer) to replace them. On riding home when all was good until I hit the inclines when the bike would make a "creaking" noise from the motor/chainset area. When I came off the incline and there was less stress on the pedals no noise. I wondered if something needed time to bed in. I've been on a 20-mile ride today and its still there. No noise when freewheeling or pedaling on flat. But the minute I put more effort in on inclines the noise returns! Any ideas.
  10. I strongly agree with trying a size. My "acoustic" mountain bike is large in size. I viewed a Medium Giant E-bike not expecting it to be a good fit. I was surprised that the seat on its lowest setting was just right for me. Prior to viewing, I was looking on the internet at Large only. I'm 5'11.
  11. Im also new to e-biking. I was looking at a Cube then spotted a used Giant Dirt-e+2. I think mine has similar specs to the Fathom apart from a smaller battery. I'm really enjoying the giant Dirt. Its got 80nm torque which is great on the hills. I've not run out of juice yet but only done 20 miles. On a return ride up some steep gradients yesterday I started with four bars (had not charged the battery) and needed a mix of eco to sport to manage the ascent. The bike still said on max I had 40 miles left. going to eco again gave me around 60miles. I know there are many variables but im happy with the Giant and the 500wa battery. The 400 should be fine depending on how far you want to go.
  12. Hi all I ve been told by a local tech that my bike needs the above but he asked me to source them. I found this thread below https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/giant-fsa-custom-crankset.30919/ But wondered if there are any UK suppliers or alternatives. I tried Tredz who could not help. Ima total novice to ebikes so not sure where to start to source these parts.
  13. A little update. By chance, a local guy was selling his Giant Dirt E+2. It was immaculate so I bought it! I'm cycling on routes I would have previously avoided such as a 6-mile route mainly up steep hills for 3 miles. I'll do further range exploration soon once the weather improves from all this rain in the North East!
  14. I've looked online at the Cube Acid Hybrid one 2020. From what I have read the 2020 motor has reduced range compared to 2019. Is that correct?
  15. Thanks for the responses so far. All appreciated and given me some options. I do prefer the MTB style to step through.
