  1. Fair comment, I don't.
  2. Don't buy the Sun. Enough said.
  3. Hi Wheelz I bought one of these from 'Wiggle' when I got the Alien, it's coped very well with or without the battery on the bike. I use it on the top tube. It seems to be cheaper now then when I bought it in January.
  4. As a potential buyer, this forum must be priceless to you when things like this happen Derrick. I think Rus and NRG have had their Alien's a bit longer than me - So far, no problems with the controller or electrics but I am going to be wary of the possibility of this as mine is probably identical.
  5. Nice one Rus, I could add tyres, tubes, a seat post, one and a half mudguards and one severley dented water bottle (jumped out of cage when going over those yellow slow down stripes)
  6. Hi Vernon 1. I managed single handed Vernon, (I am not really that practical) Struggled a bit to get it out the box though, ended up breaking the sides down and kept fingers crossed that it would not have to go back. I made things more difficult for myself by deciding to change the tyres and some other things straight out of the box, if you take your time you should be fine. 2. I was similarly unfamiliar with the index gears having not had a 'modern' bike but it's fairly intuitive, I have even managed to fine tune them thanks to some good tutorials on 'youtube' I don't think you will have any problem using them 3. I got a one of those Kryptonite 'D' type locks, seems fairly robust. Came with a bracket to fit it to the frame but I have not used it, it sits nicely on top of the pannier rack with the pannier bags sat on top of it keeping it in place. 4. I recently switched to a Direct Line policy for my home contents (before I got the bike), part of the policy includes bicycles in the shed up to £1000
  7. Great clip David, had to right click and save target as though. Looks like it's about 136mb.
  8. There's definitely a feeling that the set up of the pedelec and throttle out of the box is missing something, I have opted for the addition of a switch to cut the pedelec in and out like some others have done, I tried it last weekend and it worked well. I can see how the throttle, if used for an extended period could cause cramp, nice solution Rus.
  9. Definitely agree there Roadrunner. I purchased a 48/38/28 tooth replacement similar to the one NRG has, just need to get round to fitting it.
  10. Hi Rus, I was not aware of the misshapen mudguard interfering with riding the bike until I came to a grinding halt (it was my first run out though), I really do not know what happened. I now have an SKS Commuter mudguard fitted on the rear, I must say the quality is far superior to the original mudguard with easy adjustment of the clearance between the mudguard and the tyre. I went out again today without worrying about any problems that might ensue from going over a bump with the original mudguard, but that's a great bit of detective work from NRG for folks who have this bike with the original mudguard fitted.
  11. Nice Work Great detective work NRG, I must admit I did notice that misshapen, widened effect of the rear mudguard straight out of the box but chose to ignore it. Ah well, perhaps other Alien Gents Special II owners will be able to 'remold' it before they come to greif like me:(
  12. Thanks for the info there NRG, if I do get another full length mudguard for the Alien I will pay particular attention to the mountings. It would be interesting to know if any of the other Alien owners have had to do this. I am toying with the idea of maybe switching to the Mountain bike type mudguards but I think the bike suits the longer 'commuter' type mudguards.
  13. Yes Stumpi, I note that some of the members on here refer to having second bikes. Not sure if that's related to concerns over reliability or just the fact that we find these bikes so rewarding that we have a desire to own second and third examples of them
  14. After several months of research I finally plumped for an Alien GSII. My original feeling was to go with a bike that was nearly twice the price. The Alien ticked too many boxes though. Price became the most important factor when the Cycle to Work scheme fell through. Jim at Alien was very helpful and I was able to arrange delivery for a day on which I would be available. The bike duly arrived as promised although the box was a little battered. I spent a long time tinkering with the bike and have pinched a few ideas from NRG and others with things like tyres, brake pads etc. The pannier rack was a little off centre, I emailed Jim who advised taking off the struts from the upper part of the rack and straightening them which I have done today. I took the bike out for the first time today, all was going well until I went over a bump, the rear mudguard must have touched the tyre, folded in on itself and brought me skidding to a halt, fortunately the road was empty. The mudguard is ruined, I have Emailed Jim to enquire about a replacement but I am a bit weary of using another full length mudguard in case this happens again. Back to the drawing board for now, If I can add anything to the things that have already been written about this bike in the coming weeks I will do.
  15. Bike cost V scope for modification You must be close to completing the modifications now NRG, I guess the relatively competitive cost of the GSII gives more scope to do what you have done so far and is certainly one of the reasons I have decided to go down the GSII route.
