  1. Now i have taken the plunge and bought an e-bike - by far the most expensive bike i have ever bought - i am now thinking about security and how i prevent it from being stolen. I hope to use this bike as much as i can - reduce my car use - so cycling it into the city centre. I intend to buy as best a lock I can - looking at a gold rated D.Lock - maybe 2 - recommendations welcome . Does anyone have any other advise - for example, if leaving it in a public place, should i remove the battery and take it with me. At work I will lock it up inside my bike locker - so not too concerned about that - its more when i need to lock it to railings in a public place. Any advise would be most welcome. Thanks
  2. Thanks Saudidave - as per my previous post I have now purchased a Scott bike. I would say however that your experience is the sort of thing that has put me off from buying an eBike - I fear having lots of trouble with and it becoming a bit of a money bit. I have taken the plunge now but still have that fear. I just cross my fingers for a few years trouble free
  3. Thanks everyone.i have just ordered the Scott sub se sport from Tredz. Looking forward to receiving my new bike. Happy to answer any question. Thanks again everyone
  4. Thanks Both. One thing I am unsure about is the 5 speed hub gears. How does this compare with the range of say a 15 gear derailleur. Derailleur is what i am familiar with - although to be honest i find having that many gears far to much - i probably only tend to use 5 or 6 anyway. With regards to comparing a 5 speed hub with and 8 or 11 gear hub - is the top and bottom range the same on the 5 but just with less gears in between or would the 5 sit in somewhere in the middle.
  5. Thanks woosh . Would you be able to expand a little on how you come to that decision. Is the spec on the Scott better?
  6. I am looking to buy my first electric bike. Reason for the purchase is to commute to work and to get some additional exercise at the weekends. Budget around about 2 k ish. On my search i have stumbled across these two, both of which look to be at a good discount. https://www.cyclerepublic.com/ktm-macina-gran-5-chain-p5-mens-electric-hybrid-bike-2019.html or https://www.cyclerepublic.com/scott-sub-sport-eride-se-mens-electric-hybrid-bike-2019.html i would be keen to get peoples thoughts on both and any obvious specifications that stand out as either being good or bad. How do they compare ? I like the idea of a hub gear but not sure how only 5 would work on the KTM - would this provide enough of a gearing range.
  7. Meant to add, the ktm only has 5 internal gears . How would this effect the hills I could tackle. I have a very long fairly steep hill home all the way from work
  8. I am also looking at the Scott bike as well as a ktm from cycle republic https://www.cyclerepublic.com/ktm-macina-gran-5-chain-p5-mens-electric-hybrid-bike-2019.html I am new to ebikes so would welcome some advise. Which of these Nike’s would be better. Like the idea of the hub gears on the ktm but the Scott seems a good price. Is there anything in the specs that stand out
