  1. I‘ve done all the above and its the exceptions for each that spoil it for the rest of us, icluding cyclists. Personally I think everyone should have to learn to ride a motorcycle in a busy city in winter when’s it‘s blowing a gale, driving sleet and ice on the road. Arguments for not wearing a helmet, safety gear and appreciation of just how vulnerable you are go out the window pretty quickly. Appreciate in a sunny climate where the roads are open and there are hardly any hazards even wearing a helmet seems crazy.
  2. Ah didn’t know Schumacher had a camera in his helmet, that makes more sense. I get the primary/secondary theory, but on a road where there is concrete/tarmac/other idiots and given the law of averages ie. Sht happens, then helmets work. Primary safety such as training, riding slowly reduces risk but can’t eradicate extreme events. A mate a long time mountain rider ripped his cheek off on a track he had done hundreds of time before, just caught a stick with his pedal and flew into a tree. Low speed collision could have been nothing but a his lip caught a branch and momentum kept the rest of his face going forward. Small scar now hidden by a beard but always Wears a full face now.
  3. ...??? Schumacher hit a rock with his head, helmets are designed to reduce impact not stop it. I get your argument but the two examples above are really not appropriate for the context. There is no good reason not to wear a cycle helmet on the roads, it saves a lot of lives.
  4. Thanks wasn’t that cheap so looked around and ordered an Ancheer, seems to fit what I’m looking for and easy enough to swap out parts. Did consider a Whoosh kit and may yet do that if I enjoy riding. The Bosch looked really good, but would have been a 4 hour round trip.
  5. Ah thanks, that makes sense I guess that’s why he is selling it, he was a bit cagey when I queried him. I contacted Halfords and it’s 500 quid for a new battery which is what I expected, but as Halfords are selling last years bike for 999 currently it would be better to buy new. Any recommendations on buying a good used mountain/cross bike for off road commuting? Want something that is a good base for replacing parts and ideally once I take the battery off isnt going to tempt toerags if I leave it locked at a station. The Halfords bikes looked ideal but 500 quid every couple of years for A new battery sounds a bit steep.
  6. Hi guys, I'm new to ebikes and recovering from a knee injury so figured an ebike is a good way to ease into cycling by commuting when the weather is nice. A local guy is selling a Carrera Vulcan which I'm considering for my 25 mile commute but he says the battery only has 2 bars out of 4 health but charges fine. I figure that may be enough to get me most if not half the way to work (12 miles) on full/medium assist where I can charge. Then at some point maybe later in the year I can buy a replacement battery. Looking at the specs it looks like the Carrera Vulcan uses a Joytech 36v 11.5Ah rated at 417Wh (JCEB360-11.5). There are quite a few similar spec batteries on Amazon but no idea if these are compatible or even fit. Anyone able to help? If it's only going to be 2-300 for a new battery and I can get by with the battery for this year then that would work. Little nervous about buying a new bike and having it stolen or just deciding I don't enjoy it. A used bike seems good while I work out how much I am going to use it.
