  1. Hi I tried the Dailytour E+1, very nearly bought it as it is a very good bike. Then I tried the Explore +1 Pro and the difference in power (an extra 20Nm) was night and day. My fitness levels aren’t great though, so the extra assistance on the hills was very welcome. More expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I’ve put a Brooks saddle on it and a suspension seatpost and it’s a very comfortable and powerful bike now. I love it. But you won’t be short changed with the Dailytour E+1, great bike and good spec too
  2. Here it is. Very impressed so far!
  3. Be great to see some pics!
  4. Yes, it’s the Yamaha Sync Drive motor
  5. Good to hear, thank you. I have some ridiculously steep hills all around me here in SW Cornwall so I’m hoping the extra grunt will serve me well, rather than be overkill.
  6. Sounds like a plan! Yes, the days are certainly dragging.....
  7. Thanks for your reply and interesting views. I guess the debate over which is best, hub motors or crank motors, will rage on ad nauseum. My post, though, is asking if anyone owns one of these bikes (which I ordered AFTER much deliberation and research) and was really interested in views, gratuitous photos, videos etc (already trawled YouTube) from fellow Giant Explorer owners.
  8. Yes, I've been reading that the Pro motor is quite pokey....and that the range is quite a bit less than the Sport motor....I hadn't realised that when ordering!
  9. I ordered one of these a couple of days ago - does anyone here own one? I tried a couple of similar Giant e-bikes with lower powered motors (60Nm and 70Nm), and was very impressed with the power of the latter; the Pro motor on the one I have ordered has 80Nm.....so I imagine there will be much fun to be had. Just keen to hear anyone's thoughts who owns or who has experience of one of these
  10. Looking forward to hearing what you think
  11. That does look good. Quite pricey? I suppose that's because it's loaded. I tried this yesterday at my local Giant dealer, it was brilliant. They do a crossbar version too. Hub gears (although not CVT), but belt drive and disc brakes. Daytime running lamps too... https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/dailytour-eplus-1-low-step-through-electric-bike
  12. AFAIK, the Giant Dailytour is only available in small and medium (just looked at the manufacturer website) so Tredz probably have it incorrectly listed. Also, are Bosch motors better in any way than the Yamaha ones that Giant uses? I don’t know much about it myself, just interested.....
  13. What about the Giant Dailytour +1? If you get the 2019 model through Tredz it will be around your budget. I'm particularly interested in this bike and am about to call my local Giant store who have just re-opened today. The other bike to consider is the Raleigh Centros Grand Tour. Deals to be had on the Raleigh website if you buy before 31st May. Both have disc brakes, hub gears, crank motors and belt drive for ease of maintenance. https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Giant-DailyTour-E-1-2019-Electric-Hybrid-Bike_200681.htm https://www.raleigh.co.uk/24992-centros-grand-tour-crossbar
  14. Glowing review of the Giant Dailytour E+1 here :
  15. Following with interest. I’m looking for a similar bike, both of those that you mention are on my radar. The Giant uses a different battery and motor to the ubiquitous Bosch that most other manufacturers tend to use. I’ve also looked at the Gazelle Grenoble C8 and Riese and Muller Swing models (I’m after a step through model). I like the Raleigh Centros and there appear to be some deals out there at the moment. I’m interested to know how the quality is with Raleigh these days, though, in general.
  16. All very interesting, thank you. I have to confess to lusting after a Riese and Muller, but some of the prices are a bit daft for me to consider. That said, their ‘Swing’ range (ooer) starts at about the price of a top notch Gazelle Grenoble 380 .... the new Wisper Wayfarer looks good, but I’d like hub gears and ideally belt drive. Out of interest, how is your Brompton Swytch and how does it compare to the Sparticle?
  17. Looks interesting, although a bigger bike is really what I'm after. That said, I take it this is a DIY kit? Is it an easy fit? Can the battery be adapted to fit in a bag on the front?
  18. Thanks for this, and for the links I'm intending to use the bike as much as I can during better weather. I'm retired so don't need it for work, it will be for leisure. Mainly road use, possibly some very light off road. Comfort and uphill performance are paramount. I'm in my early fifties and reasonably fit (plenty of walking around here sees to that) but the step through frame appeals. I have a 'buy once, buy right' approach to most things in life (doesn't always pan out that way, mind you!) and my perception, at least, of the bikes I am interested is that they appear to be quality products from the two oldest bike manufacturers going. I also like how they look, which has an obvious bearing. I like the hub gears (had them before). You make some valid points, and I've looked at the Woosh website; the bikes seem to represent excellent value and I'm impressed at the potential level of customer care should anything go wrong, or even just for advice. But, it would be nice to hear about the bikes I've mentioned from anyone who might have experience of one.
  19. I think it’s about £1800 fitted; they don’t supply the kit on a DIY basis. https://www.arccbikes.com/pages/brompton-with-e2-pod
  20. Thanks - I've looked at all the reviews and I think the ARCC one appeals the most, for its apparent quality etc., but at that price I think I'd rather upgrade my bike to something bigger.
  21. Thanks for this. Yes, I'd initially considered one of the retro-fitted kits currently on the market. I wouldn't have the know-how to attempt to fit it myself so that rules out Swytch (relatively affordable I think) and leaves the likes of ARCC (pricey for a kit) and Nano (which in fairness I have only just found...).Thing is, I do like my Brompton but was ideally after something a bit sturdier now..
  22. Good afternoon all. Anyone else from the Lizard area of Cornwall?? I haven't ridden for a while. I have a Brompton which I used to use when I lived in a town, but I'm finding that it's not really suitable for the hills round here...... I don't have an e-bike yet, but am increasingly drawn to the 'look' and spec of bikes such as the Gazelle Grenoble C8/380hmb, the Raleigh Centros low step, and the Kalkhoff Image 5.B Move. I like the more upright position and a comfy seat and suspension are important, as is a powerful motor and maintenance free (ish) componentry.... Does anyone have one of these bikes (or similar)? I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on these bikes. TIA Jason
