Tongsheng TSDZ2 review and build tips.
Thanks I’ll have a proper look today. My gut feel is to put a shim in, I wouldn’t want to run it so close to the chainstay. If needed I can always buy an offset chainring. I’ve seen the blingrings but there so expensive.

Yes I meant the bottom bracket. I’m still learning the lingo as I’ve spent years riding bikes but not fixing them. I’ll have a look at the alignment of the chain with a shim. I could alway buy an offset main cog .

Strip down and rebuild
Alrighty then here’s my update. I started to strip my donor bike last night, a Scott Hardtail, I’ve owned it from new so knew it hadn’t been abused or used that much. Anyway I’d bought some new bits and pieces online and cracked on yesterday with the strip down. I basically stripped and cleaned everything off the bike. Wheel bearings, Hydraulic brakes, rear cassette, head stock the bloody lot. I bought a tool kit for £50, Lifeline, and TBF it’s been brilliant absolutely worth the money. I’ve attached a picture of the bits I removed. A big tip is to take pictures as you go and the order you take parts off, this definitely helps when rebuilding. So all stripped and cleaned up. Attached is a picture of the bike without parts. I kinda wish I sent the frame to be resprayed, which I was thinking but hey ho on we go. The kits arrived today, I ordered it Sunday night. Anyway I’ve started to rebuild most of it has gone well, but the headset seems a bit stiff so I’ll look at that tomorrow. Oh and I went and emptied the oil for the brakes. I’ve ordered a kit for bleeding off amazon and it’s due tomorrow, thank god for Amazon. I went and got a few bits from Halfords the guy was very helpful to be fair. Some other things for tomorrow, one of the pistons on the brakes seems to be seized I’m hoping to try and free it so I don’t have to buy a new one! Then I need to set up the brakes. I’ve tried the motor in the hub and it went in fine, looks like it’s gonna be a nice fit. I’ve set it up on the kitchen table it all lights up but the Motor/cogs doesn’t turn, but then I’m not pedalling. It seems very snug against the frame so I’ll see if I can off set it tomorrow. The only other small thing Is that it came with an EU plug so I can’t charge the battery up. I’ll update tomorrow when hopefully the brake and headset will be sorted and the motor fitted!!

I’ve just offered up my motor to the hub and it fits nicely. But it looks very similar in position to point C and the picture. Did you use a shim or spacer to move it out a little?

TSDZ2 48v 750w on Order!
At first I was going for the Bafang, and had been looking for a good few weeks. After I rode the Cube MTB I started doing more research and came across a site called ebikechoices ran by a bloke in Cornwall. After reading the reviews on there and comparisons it appears that the Tongsheng is more like a Bosch motor, I.e. as you pedal it provides assistance so you still have to do some work. Where as with the Banfang when you start pedal the motor takes over, hence it’s more like a pedelec. Hence I went for the former, plus there are some firmware up grades that make it even more like the Bosch. I may do this later I’m undecided yet. I ordered it from PSWPower. They seem to have been around for a while and fairly trustworthy plus they where the cheapest. Couple of other minor things as well, the banfang motor stops only when you press the brakes, this means another set of wires, I’m not a fan of clutter. Also the Tongsheng was a little cheaper, I wanted to try and get the motor and battery sub £500, which I could have done if I went for the smaller battery. I think it was £560 top of my head. BTW it’s due today!!!!

New Tyres, Rear Cassette and Chain for my Conversion
Hi I'm waiting on the delivery of my TSDZ2 750Watt motor and doing a little refurb on my bike. The bike is a Scott Aspect Hardtail MTB and currently has an 8 speed rear cassette, 11-32 teeth off the top of my head. What rear cassette would you recommend and what chain type? I've read varying reports that some say an 'ebike chain' isn't worth the money, and a decent standard Shimano or SRAM will be fine. I'm only planning using the bike on road and light trails. Also, any recommendations on tyres? The wheels are 26", is it worth going 'tubeless'? Thanks Larry

TSDZ2 48v 750w on Order!
Hi There I’m Larry I’ve been looking into ebikes for the last three/four months and had a go on someone’s hard tail Cube in work- it was great. But I’ve been humming and ahhhing over whether to go shop bought or conversion. I’ve ordered the TSDZ2 48w 750w with a Hairon 48v 17.5A battery. I’m looking to fit it to a Scott Aspect 45 2009. I’ve owned the bike from new and it hasn’t done massive miles. I read some of the excellent posts on here and so will refer to them when doing the conversion. Some quick questions, anything I should look out for or definitely do during the conversion? It has an 8 speed 11-32 rear cog, whether that makes a difference? Are there any guides on refurbishing a bike? I’m thinking wheel bearings, definitely new chain, new cables, etc. The bike is a hard tail with hydraulic brakes so they probably need a service? So any advice would be most helpful. I’ll update on how I get on. Thanks Larry
