  1. Suggest you get a second hand Brompton and have it converted or see if you can get a converted Brompton...your budget is limited. The distance of 15 miles is possible. Maybe get yourself a Brompton without any electric assist and try use the Bus part of your journey. Pabs
  2. I love my Nano brompton conversion, so far have done over 5,500 miles over two years. Only had two problems, one where the rings in the motor needed replacing and this was all done under the warranty and more recently the connection. I now had to replace the orginal battery and now using the bosch 4AH battery. My daily work journey 8 miles each way means no sweat and great for my knees and best all i can wear my work clothes and not needing a shower...I still peddle all the way. The great aspect of the brompton is that I take it into work place buildings and never had to leave it out. Pabs
  3. Hiya Pat, I had to get a charger separately from another supplier. The charger is Bosch AL8640cv and got it for £33.33 from PowerTool World http://www.powertoolworld.co.uk/bosch-charger-al3640cv-for-36v-li-ion-batteries?utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_campaign=Shopping+Priority&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=sTY1bFubT|pcrid|86087259375|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|&gclid=CIzapNq-tcoCFSMHwwodTt8FZA Hope this helps. 4. Pat, Here's the link to the 36v 4Ah Battery, it's at £38.99 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hi-quality-Replacement-11536C-1-11536C-2-Compatible/dp/B018I11KVK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1452704362&sr=8-5&keywords=36v+4ah I have seen the same battery on ebay as well. Have had no problems today on my 8 mile journey to work, will see how this battery performs over time...but at a cost of £38.99 you can't go wrong. Pabs
  5. Thank you Patt. An update, the battery which I have is a 5AH 36v and to repair the couple of cells is not cost effective. therefore, I managed to get an a connector from NanoBrompton - this will allow to use the Bosch 4AH battery. So managed to get a new charger and a battery 36v 4AH for £36.00...yes £36 from Amazon. Tested this battery over 5 miles and no problems. For my daily journey to work 8 miles each way should be OK. Happy cycling to all! Pabs
  6. Welcome assistance / help with my electric brompton (conversion from NanoBrompton - battery in the bag). Coming home from work with a fully charged battery I managed about half mile then no power. I had to pull up the bag and reconnect then power comes on and as soon as press the thumb trottle power goes off. Anyway had to use manual leg power for 7 miles to home. This evening I checked the voltage and showed 38volts - I charged the battery and when fully charged showed 43volts. I then did a simple test of using the motor indoors and managed about 2 miles then no power. I checked the voltage and now shows 39volts. Is the battery now needs replacing as not enough amps going to the motor? By the way my Brompton has so far done over 5,000 miles and the only problem I have had was damaged rings inside the motor and this was repaired by NanoBrompton who are fantastic in dealing with me. The bike is over 2 years old.
  7. It might be useful to let forum members know what size this bike might to suitable. Also, the supplier should give dimensions on the size of the bike. All the best and hope you get most of the loss. Pabs

  9. I am selling my Aurora as have started to use an unassisted bike for cycle to work. It is on ebay - Lot number: 140578480093 It is in excellent condition just 7 months old with Upgrades and extras. Front brake and rotor upgraded to an Avid BB7 brake with 185mm disk. (Standard front brake was pretty poor for the weight of the bike.) . Fitted with a non-suspension seat post to drastically lower seat height.. I'm 5 ft 6 in, and can now comfortably get both feet on the ground with this post. Still have the orginal suspension seat post. Front and rear Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres. Front is 1.75 in wide, the rear is a 2.00 inch wide. It comes with the standard cavernous double panniers. 2 mirrors and battery operated horn. For anyone not familiar with the Alien Aurora, it is not a 'road legal' bike, but due to the fact that the motor is physically the same size as a 250w legal motor, it doesn't look illegal. Top speed (with the wider tyres) is a little above 20mph on throttle only, but where this bike really shines is in pedal assist mode. There's no need to ever take it out of top gear! By the way I will deliver the bike as long as fuel costs are met within 100 miles of Nottingham.
  10. It was the thin wire to the BMS (black in colour) which seems to have come off. Had to solder this back. By the way I have learned more about the battery with your assistance. I tested the Aurora yesterday evening and managed to get to 22mph and rode for 30 minutes or so, checking all is ok. Looking forward to my journey to work tomorrow using the Aurora, no more sweat and don't need to use my Dahon Expresso and will get to work much more quicker. Pabs
  11. Received the battery back from Jim @ AlienOcean. Decided to open the battery case, and guess what I want. One of the wires to the cells was not fixed, seem to have come off the solder joint. I have managed to fix this, and now find that the battery is charging. Therefore have the Aurora fully working, so don't need to get a replacement battery - so no need to sell this Bike now! Many thanks to all at the forum for the guidance and assistance, much appreciated!! Pabs

  13. Received reply from Jim @ Alien today - "When we received your battery we did a voltage test and it showed a reading of 35v. We put the battery on a charger for 4 hours and took another reading but it had not moved from 35v. We tried it on another charger and got the same results". I am not clear why there is a drop in voltage - any ideas from anyone? When I receive the battery back, should I check each of the cells and ensure all the connections are in place, as I have reasons to believe that it is due to the bumps on the road (traffic calming humps, plenty of them on my journey to work) which may have caused the fault in the battery. Also welcome suggestions where I may get a replacement battery (36v 10amp) from? As for the warranty, Alien did point out to me when I bought the bike that the warranty was not transferrable and therefore are not obliged to provide a replacement battery - therefore anyone buying a second-hand bike please check the issue of warranty! Pabs
  14. I am in Robin Hood County i.e. Nottingham. I purchased the bike towards on 11th March this year (am a second owner - previous owner got it around Xmas 2010) and used daily (week days from 1st April onwards). I have posted the battery in question to Alien: below is the reply:- Dear Mr Singh We have put your battery through a series of tests and we are unable to revive it. The specific problem is that the voltage has fallen below a recoverable level and it won’t take a charge so I’m afraid we cannot bring it back to life. I appreciate that you’ve not had the bike for long but if the battery was not properly charged by the previous owner then the damage could have been done before you bought it and could explain why the previous owner decided to sell it. We do have replacement batteries in stock which cost £349 including carriage and if you’d like to order one please let me know. Also would you like us to return the old battery to you or should we dispose of it? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Just need a new battery. Viewing available any evening/weekend. Pabs
  16. Thanks for the assistance. Just to let you know that I have checked the fuse with a multimeter and this is ok. The fuse was a 30amp 250volt, if this was blown, I would struggle to find a replacement here in Nottingham. I have already posted the battery to Jim at AlienOcean on his instructions and hopefully he will come back to me early next week for a battery replacement. Its a good job I am off work this week and looks like next week I will have to use either my Brompton or the Dahon Expresso to cycle 8 miles to work, anyway its only 4 working days next week. Pabs
  17. I have an Alien Aurora just over 6 months old – last Friday the power went blank i.e. no power while cycling. I had initially ridden 5 miles to a City Council office base and returned back to my base. On going back home the control console showed all lights on and then after literally 100 yards, all went blank. I returned back to my base and locked the bike in my bike storage locker and took the battery and the charger home via bus. At home I started charging the battery, however it showed green light on the charger, which means the battery is fully charged (when it should be red as I have already done 10 miles earlier in the day). I managed to get the bike home in the car and tried the ‘recharged’ battery - but no power, even the front & rear lights did not light up. I think the battery is faulty. It is a Phylion Battery 36v 10Amp (fits on the rear rack) Welcome assistance from the Forum:- 1) Is it the battery gone? 2) Where to get a replacement battery? By the way I am the second owner of the Aurora and have cycled everyday since beginning of April, 8 miles each way to my workplace (16 miles total). Look forward receiving assistance from fellow e-cyclists. Pabs
  18. 1. When did you first become aware of electric bicycles? About 11 years ago 2. Where did you see an electric bike for the first time? Had a test ride on a Powabyke 3. Why did you become interested in electric bikes? Was looking at cycling to work over 8 mles one way. Had a test ride on a Giant Lafree and Kalkhoff Pro-Connect - but the cost involved made me question this especially locking the bike outside without secure place. 4. What did you do about this interest? Ended up getting a Brompton Bike as my work place was now in the City and enabled me to have a multi-form of transport i.e. a lift in a car with my beloved brompton, a bus ride. However from April, my place of work will be changed and this will mean cyclying around 16 miles each day. Looked at conversion of the Brompton but cannot afford the finance involved. However last week have recently managed to acquire a secondhand (only 3 month old) Alien Aurora (with a donation of funds from a friend). The Alien Auroa is a superb bike and used it today to work and so far no problems - apart from the cycle storage locker at work (the bike will not fit in - not the fault of the bike but the cycle storage locker, seems like nobody checked out if bikes can actually fit). 1. Have you ever fallen off or been knocked off a bicycle? - Yes 2. Did you sustain any injuries, minor or serious? - No 3. Did it make you consider wearing a helmet? - Yes As I cycle to work and sometimes use the bike for work, I am required to wear a helmet. Pabs
