  1. I would agree with this 100% for all ebike owners. In fact I think this is such an essential core skill in life these days it should actually be taught at schools. Knowing how to use a multimeter can save a small fortune. This week my kids Wii died, instead of £80 for a new one spent £5 on a power supply having tested it with meter.
  2. I kind of agree on both sides, i think it is beneficial to have the dealers available to comment but it should be clear which members are dealers and who they represent.
  3. 1 month in to my Eagle ownership and I am delighted with my purchase (£1000), took a bit of time to get the brakes adjusted the way I like but that may just be me being fussy. I bought it as a 2nd car alternative mainly for a very hilly 2 mile each way commute, as I run a milkshake bar I cannot afford to turn up as a sweating heap and after a day on my feet knew I would not fancy the ride home. Most of what I do I want to do as fast as possible as it is purely to commute or to play cricket etc. so I tend to use high assist. The power has been excellent ( I am around 13 stone) and every hill I have come across so far I can climb in 6th gear without any difficulty and the battery life superb (26 miles on high assist uses under half the battery). My only concern has been, like IOM, that if left in the rain without battery in the contacts are completely open, to counter this I have made a small plastic "hat" for the connector that I stuff with kitchen roll and so far that has kept the contacts dry. All in all at this point I would recommend the Freego to anyone looking for a mid range bike.
  4. I have to agree on the battery life I have had easily 60 miles off assist without flattening the battery.
  5. But what about all the extra weight of a sticker?
  6. Can you add me please: Great Notley, Braintree, Essex. Freego Eagle.
  7. Actually sawing through a 4x4 Oak post is not 2 minutes work without a chainsaw. My bike is parked out of line if sight but within easy earshot which is why I have gone for an alarmed lock as well as a fairly normal lock. The alarm goes off if the lock is moved and I can be there in 30 secs.
  8. I have opted for one of these to protect my new bike as I have no choice about varying where I park, it will be attached to a 4 inch Square Oak post. NEW HD CABLE LOOP LOCK WITH ALARM MOTORBIKE BIKE CYCLE on eBay (end time 17-May-10 23:09:26 BST)
  9. Thats it I am now completely sold on this ebike/pedelec lark. Also loving the Freego eagle After 2 days of easy commuting (10 miles total ) with a mixture of assist levels on some steep hills I decided to use it today for a 18 mile round trip to play cricket. Loaded up all my kit into my panniers and onto the rack and did the 9 miles to the match in 35 minutes with a high level of assist (didnt want to be tired before I played) and then 9 miles home in a similar time with a mix of high assist and throttle only (I was a bit tired after all). The battery on the eagle is still showing 50% full. I have realised 2 things though: 1. Keep your mouth shut at 15mph as flies taste nasty. 2. I need some glasses as they hurt when they hit you in the eye.
  10. My first electric bike has arrived today. I opted for a Freego Eagle from 2wheelelectric. I plan on doing a full review after a couple of weeks but my initial impression is good. It feels nicely powerful and the build quality seems good. I had to adjust the gears but apart from that and fitting the front wheel, rack, saddle, pedals and light it seems well put together. The battery is supposed to be 17Ah with an up to 80 mile range (we will see). Hub motor is a Bafang 250W, not sure what the views in that make are, anyone?
  11. Thanks for that, I did wonder why people were claiming 250W as "road legal" but it sounds like the usual slow grind of the law to catch up.
  12. I am slightly confused by the legality of 250W for bikes in the UK. I clearly read it as 200W is the limit but........... Can anyone explain in idiots terms. Thanks Rob
  13. Is this the type? http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=6727102 Thanks Rob
  14. Fantastic, that looks ideal, If I can attach it to the wiring for the battery. I might go for the 12V version to a cigar type socket so i can run different accessories. Thanks for you help. Rob
  15. Hi, I would like to be able to power my Iphone (for sat nav) from the bike. Has anyone found a decent sized and preferably cheap converter, I can solder etc so can put it in a box and wire it up. Just been struggling to find anything suitable. Cheers Rob
  16. Hi, I am just getting into this electric bike malarky and am waiting on delivery of a freego eagle (good or bad I will let you know). I am considering a cargo trailer to help me carry cricket gear and other stuff around. Any recommendations or anything to be careful of? Welcome any advice Thanks Rob
