1. the display is a KT-LCD3 and the controller is.......
2. So we have an issue with the 03 code appearing on the controller display which will clear by turning on and off but will re appear again either sooner or later..... Thinking that it would be issues with the diodes in the motor assembly I decided to check everything else before stripping the motor. So I put the bike in a repair stand and connected a thumb control for ease. The bike worked flawlessly for sometime even with a brake slightly applied to mimic a #load# on the motor. Thinking that the issue may be a bad cable connection and or a cable break that is disrupted while the bike is jostled around while travelling, I commenced jostling all the cables and associated plugs etc but to no avail as I couldn't make the system fail. At that point I jostled the battery around in its mount over the the back wheel and sure enough the bike failed on a 03 error. So I repeated the process a few times and sure enough it kept failing..... so I then thought it may have been an intermittent "break" in the plug socket pin connections as it seemed associated with sliding the battery in and out of location, so I checked them and sprung one pin over to improve the positive connection between the pins but the fault still appeared. In fact the fault appeared at one point and then refused to clear regardless of jostling. So thinking the issue may reside within the battery box I have opened it up but can see nothing that would give issues other than possibly the charge control and monitoring pcbs. So the question is ....is there anything that could generate a03 error in or around the battery box or am I barking up the wrong tree.....?
3. Hi I've just bought a collection of bits for a nominal sum in an effort to prove a principle before I splash out on the real stuff. In the bits is a Bafang 8FUN rear hub motor 36v 250w, BF1609H66526-1 along with a KD21C display. When I rough connect them together with the battery pack etc I get an Error30 code on the display. This I think is a communication error code. So as there is no 'external' controller in the set up is it likely that the issue lies within the Hub motor as I assume that the controller is internal to the motor on this model. Am I right on these assumptions. If I am right is the issue likely to be tackled by opening the motor and having a look at the controller assembly etc? Ahhhhh I've just found that the 'controller' is built into the end of the battery mount. Its a Panda E bikes unit LSW1406-2F ...... Thicko me!! Sorted.....all good it turned out to be the display at fault!

Nealh Hi Neal, last month you advised on using a Aikema 128c with a KT controller as a retrofit on a Giant step through for the missus. Is the 128c a torque controlled motor or is it possible to fit a torque sensor and use that to control the motor ? I ask as I think she would possibly benefit from a TS drive in making her a little fitter as time goes by, which is not the main point in touring on the bikes but it still figures up there in the list!
5. thanks for the info Neal, I take it that you are referring to a rear wheel hub? have you a preferred brand as a starting point?
6. thanks for the reply Neal! Couple of questions, why / how do hub motors allow a more 'leisurely ride compared to mid drives and why can a mid drive take you 'anywhere' when a hub wont....what are the limitations please?
7. I intend to convert the missus's step through Giant bike to kit electric. being of the more mature years she dreads riding the bike on anything except a flat. To this end we rode the whole of the two canals across France two years ago over a couple of weeks ! So she's not fully adverse to the bike. Our use is mainly while out and about in our camper but our range is limited by her reluctance to take on inclines and longer trips that can be accommodated without exhaustion. So the plan is to convert her bike but what is / are the best kits? We would hope for about a 25 mile endurance which is 50 for a round trip and being step through then needing a flat pac battery etc. My current thoughts are on a middle mounted motor as they seem to have a better press than hub motors ....is this so? Any help , suggestions etc most welcome!
