It’s not an excuse to invade another country. To take the first steps and initiate an invasion isn’t right. If the west / NATO / EU hadn’t entertain the notion of the Ukraine joining their ranks, I don’t believe Russia would have invaded. The relatively peaceful situation would have continued. As it is, a war has now started. Who knows where it will end?

Your description of the missile fits my experience. Such a lightweight structure wouldn’t penetrate tarmac surface and the packed stone bed to such depth without sustaining distortion, damage or complete destruction. The images on BBC looked like display exhibits mounted in the ground. I have a Ukrainian friend who I run with. She was telling me yesterday that her family think Zelensky is a showman clown and that Russia is reacting to the West (NATO / EU) expanding right up to their border. A bit like America would react if say Mexico decided to rely on Russia for its defences and allowed them to have a military presence there. Just a thought.

Earlier this week, I saw on the BBC news images of were reported to be Russian missiles that had landed in a town, but not exploded. The missiles were sticking out of the ground at a jaunty angle and appeared to be completely intact. The ground around the impact sites looked neatly manicured with the displaced tarmac neatly stacked to one side. Where the missiles emerged from the ground, it was surrounded by finely graded top soil. It all looked a bit staged to me. I would have expected the missiles to have a lot of energy when they hit the ground. Regardless of whether they exploded, I believe the body would disintegrate or be heavily damaged. The impact site didn’t look right either, it was too tidy and orderly. I think we are being fed Ukrainian propaganda, which is fine for the Ukrainians to attempt, I’d do the same, but I think the BBC should vet stuff more thoroughly before sending it into people’s homes.

Perhaps the Irish could teach the Germans a thing or two and make them less reliant on Russian gas? I’ve heard Ireland has just imported 100 million tonnes of sand from Saudi Arabia and now they are going to drill for their own oil.

Imagine being so short of friends that you need to rely on that line-up I suppose it could be worse for Putin, he could have had Boris Johnson on his Christmas card list.

My main concern is that in Putin, we have a dying and cancer ridden old man with a gigantic ego suffering humiliation. How will he react? It could be a global catastrophe. As much as it grinds my pipe, the way out of this with minimum loss of life, is to give Putin / Russia a face-saving way to climb down and for him to escape war crimes proceedings. Then assassinate him if the cancer doesn’t eat him first. Rubbing his nose in it (the Liz Truss & Cowardly streak of pi$$ approach), is dangerous.

It can also take a great deal of time to configure an orbit to pass over the area of interest.

The £120 mil of our money has been spent to divert attention from the party situation and the fact that the Prime Minister has misled Parliament. If they can pull off Operation Save Big Dog for £120,000,000 I think that’s cheap. I think they’ll do it too. Credit where it’s due, they can take the public for mugs with astonishing ease and they keep coming back for another punch in the face. It’s quite incredible.

Another thing. A few months / years down the line l, when we have a large pool of brown men warehoused in Rwanda, what happens when their asylum applications fail? Where do they go? As I’ve said, this crazy policy won’t happen, but if it did we will be constructing a massive problem for the future.

I’d just like to ask people not to get excited / outraged about sending brown coloured dinghy men to Rwanda. It won’t happen, it can’t happen and there is no intention on the government’s part to make it happen. Fat-Arse Patel in incapable of taking a dump without a grown up being present to make sure she doesn’t injure herself. There is no way on Earth she could organise the transportations to Africa. This story has only been resurrected to stop you noticing what a dishonest, cowardly pile of shite & blubber we have as Prime Minister.

I’d say to be careful what you believe. Any competition whether it’s sport, a job application or a war has three elements. Politics, Finance and the actual fight. Ukrainian will be fighting their invaders on a political front as well as on the ground with bullets. An image/ report of civilian suffering and / or casualties is a great political weapon. I’d encourage Ukrainian to use any tactic at their disposal to discredit / drive out their invaders. That doesn’t mean I have to believe everything I see though.

Very true. I think we should treat information coming from both sides with extreme caution. I suspect a high percentage is BS.

I believe there are two possible responses to the Russia / Ukraine situation. One will work, the other will fail. 1) Send thousands of ordinary people to Ukraine armed with products that make rich people even richer. Write off the casualties as a sacrifice that the rich people are willing to make for the sake of preserving their wealth. 2) Send all of the dirty Russian money which has been stolen from the Russian people and invested in the U.K. back to Russia. I think option 2 might make a few influential Russians sit up and listen if they think their wealth is going to be at the mercy of the basket case Russian economy. I wonder which of the two is most likely to be implemented?

Three people have died in the storm today and it’s all over the news. 158 people have died from Covid today and there’s not a whisper.

I've been out on my bike this afternoon with the sole purpose of taking back a Strava King of the Mountain (KOM) segment. An old iron viaduct has recently been opened as a cycle path and I claimed KOM on the day it opened late last year. A friend took it off me during the last storm . I've been out in an even bigger storm today (60 MPH gust tailwind) and reclaimed it. I don't think it will ever be beaten:D:D:D:D I think I am now officially a sad bastard!

I can’t see that working during the period of WW1 or 2. I think politicians were held in high regard due to much tighter control of news outlets. Today, it might be a different story. The internet has revolutionised access to information and we have learned that the establishment is constructed from scum dressed in £1000 suits & dresses. They command no respect or trust. I don’t think any form of conscription would work. It would result in mass civil disobedience. It would be much better to send Liz Truss to war in that tank.
