  1. This drives a hole through the EPAC regulations. This exoskeleton device has an 800w motor and does the same function as a powered bike. How do you legislate for this? If it is regulated then how does it compare with fit athletic riders? Do we ban athletes from public highway? Does this pose a threat to the whole e-bike industry? It is a sunny day and read the hip thruster comment and be cheerful.
  2. According to the DOT page update this proposal is now abandoned. More objections than support received during the consultation period. This means no throttles permitted for anytime in the near future and scooters will remain illegal.
  3. I thought Crimea was a gift to Ukraine by Kruchev during one of his lighter moods. The Ukrainians mostly used it as a holiday resort during the soviet times. Therefore the re-possession of Crimea in 2014 did not surprise me so much. However the invasion of the rest of Ukraine was wrong and there can be no justification for that. I sincerely hope that our current leaders in both sides would tread carefully and make sound decisions to stop this war which is not going to lead anywhere but massive losses and human suffering on both sides as well as the rest of the world.
  4. It is a free country and we are all entitled to form and express our opinions freely based on the evidence available out there. I am not a joker but quite the opposite, a professional with over 50 years of experience in private and public organisations.
  5. Letter resurfaces from Nigel Farage's schooldays warning of “racist” and “fascist” tendencies
  6. You are right in the effect of the planning regulations on the development of housing sites. However it is the lack of investment in the public housing that has created this problem since Margaret Thatcher's right to buy scheme and the cut backs in Local Authority funding for housing. The local authorities used to have housing departments with skilled Engineers and Architects who used to design and build local housing estates. They were all made redundant by the Tory policies over 30 years and we are now paying the price for these ill conceived policies. It was relatively easy for most young people to buy homes until 1980s.
  7. At least some of the people you mentioned sang Hitler youth songs and they sympathize with the idealogy. Draw your own conclusions.
  8. I cannot see any reference to this announcement on eBay. If it is true it will be a blow to all ebike users who want to sell off legitimate quality e-bikes. I have bought several used ebikes from ebay which were good quality German makes at reasonable prices from private sellers. Does this mean that I will not be able to do this anymore? Does anyone have a link to the ebay announcement?
  9. Yes indeed. The EPC certificates are based on assumed data on the fabric of the building. They are not based on actual intrusive checks on the actual presence of insulation in the property or the actual energy performance of the building. The householders statements are usually ignored by the assessors. Yet here we are with our parliament passing laws to punish the landlords based on assumed data. The courts will impose fines on decent landlords on assumed evidence. How great is that? All these measures will result in no benefit to the Tenants or Landlords. Landlords will not see any benefits for their expenditure unless rents are increased in line. Tenants will see a small benefit in energy bills and a large rise in rents. In the meanwhile any environmental benefits delivered will be negated by the exploding bombs discharging tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere in Ukraine and the Middle East.
  10. This is not correct. Landlords will need EPC grade C by 2030 for existing properties according to the legislation going through the parliament now. No such restrictions for existing privately owned homes. My personal opinion is this is not achievable. Majority of UK properties are old and will not achieve grade C without a lot of work. This will take decades to achieve given the shortages of experienced installers for external cladding or internal insulation for solid walled properties. New build properties already achieve grades A, B or C.
  11. Here is the widest sprung saddle I have come across. See the dimensions when comparing the saddles. It is very comfortable and good for gentle leisure rides. 12. It is a pedelec. The motor will not rotate and therefore you will not see it working unless you pedal. Does it feel easier to rotate with the power on? Alternative may be to simulate walk assist function by connecting the 2 wires with a resister in the walk assist plug. I have not done this and therefore not sure. In the 26v batteries the grey wire has the same voltage as the main wire. It bypasses the fuse in the battery I assume to power the display and show error messages if the main system fails. Assume 36v will be the same.
  13. Bench testing these motors will be difficult because when you apply voltage the motor will not rotate. It is a pedelec system and you have to apply a force to the pedal to rotate the motor and it will be difficult to gauge the motor response. I am not sure but you may be able to use the pedal assist plug for this.( I think one of the 2 spare plugs in the loom is intended for the walk assist function). You need to identify the 2 relevant wires and link these via a resister to simulate the walk assist button. Panasonic do not publish their wiring diagrams but you will find some useful wiring details and error codes in the following handbook. Panasonic Mittelmotor Technisches Handbuch (yumpu.com)
  14. There are reasonably priced 26v batteries in Germany. I have used these for several years without any problems. The original charger works with these. E-Bike Fahrrad Akku für Panasonic Flyer S Tour 26" S Tour 28" 15,6Ah 26V | eBay
  15. If you are using a 26v panasonic battery on an old 24v panasonic motor it will still work. I recently tried that and all works OK. Old NiMH batteries were designated as 24v. The red wire is positive 26v and it is protected by a fuse or a resettable safety cut out within the battery. The middle wire is also positive 26v but not protected by the fuse. I think it simply provides a low current to displays etc. The black wire is the negative terminal. If your old panasonic motor has only 2 wires then it is important to connect the positive wire to the red fused supply because there is no protection fuse within the panasonic motor. If the safety cut out operates you have to open the battery case to reset it.
  16. Just rechecked with the tyres I removed and kept and it shows Marathan Plus Tour. Are these different from your Marathan Plus? I have no assosiation with Tanus or Schwalbe.
  17. The bike came fitted with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres but they were not a match for thorns from hedge cuttings common in rural lanes in my area. That is why I opted for Tannus. I have also tried several types of tyre inserts without success and finally gave up and opted for Tannus airless. My rear Enviolo hub and the chain case makes it tricky to repair at the roadside. The current set up even survived after accidentally riding over fragments of a broken beer bottle.
  18. Used them for 2 years and no breakages yet apart from a loosening of mudguard bolts. They are supposed to be equivalent to 80psi inflation in a normal tyre and therefore feels a bit harder than my usual tyres. My ebike has suspension and therefore I do not feel any discomfort. I definitely prefer these tyres than having to repair a puncture at the roadside.
  19. I use Tannus tyres. No air and therefore no punctures ever again.
  20. There is a special hub available for those without disk brakes.
  21. Skarper Technology device looks promising. It engages with a special barke disk with a gear wheel. It can be used with any bike and you need only additional disks for each bike. https://www.skarper.com/technology
  22. In Germany they sell 2 million e bikes per year most of them good quality European models. UK in contrast only manages sell only 150,000 ebikes per year mostly imported models.
  23. Installation manuals available here. https://www.yosepower.co.uk/ There is a adjustment nut under the frewheel hub that allows you to get the correct width between the dropouts so that the unit fits without the use of spacers.
  24. We have 2 of these in daily use and still working perfectly. Only major item we changed were the batteries which are still available for around £250 on ebay. We have worn out a few sprockets and chains along the way. Only problem now is that some of the spares such as chain tensioner is only available in Germany and these specialist suppliers no longer ship to UK since Brexit. They ship to all countries in the world except UK due to draconian VAT rules imposed by this government.
