  1. It,s getting closer. It,s too cold, wet and miserable to take the bike for a run, so I just ran the motor on the throttle indoors and topped up the battery a couple of times. It seems very encouraging. Toodlepip Brian
  2. Sorry before I could finish yesterday,s post I was called away. The battery voltage when the indicater changed to green was 53.7 v. But the best indication was the built in tail light which started flashing rapidly, it's bright enough that I can see it from the house. It looks like I have Xmas lights in the shed. I am a happy bunny. Toodlepip Brian
  3. Thanks for all your help. Sorry but I have had a few mental blocks. 1) I used the row of LEDs on the battery to define when the battery is full. I now know this is not the case and the only indicater to use is the red / green light on the charger. 2) I have been very conscious about over charging the battery. I am safely assured that the battery cannot in fact be overcharged. The green light on the charger indicating that the charger is no longer charging and the battery is fully charged. Armed with these two bits of knowledge and an £8 voltmeter from Screwfix I started again. I charged the battery until all the lights on the battery were green, then kept on charging for another 4.1/2 hours. I am now confident that the battery is fully charged and will respond as it should do. I will give it a run over the weekend just to prove it. Please feel free to say ,"I told you so" Toodlepip Brian.
  4. We bought the tandem when we were working in Dubai about 15 years ago. It was a Korean knock-off of a Chinese copy. A great bike, bought it new for about £100 and sold it for £300. So no the motor is not for the tandem, the picture just seemed nice for an avatar I am still building the bike it has only done 10 miles most of which were on power level 1 or 2. I never tried it on a hill I ran out of battery before I got there. I appreciate the need for a meter and will get one as soon as I can. Toodlepip Brian
  5. Neal - link to battery as requested https://wooshbikes.co.uk/cart/#/product/uid-274-bbs01et-15ahrack/bbs01et-cd-kit-with-15ah-48v-rack-battery I do have a meter, but I have not seen it since the last last house move, I may have to buy another one if it does not surface on the next couple of days. Toodlepip Brian
  6. Thanks for the quick reply, it's nice to know I'm not alone, I really appreciate the help and advice. I will try and give it a go tomorrow, but I am not promising. Lots of rain forecast but as soon as I can I will do as you suggest. Toodlepip Brian
  7. This morning set of bright and early on my brand new BBS ET 48v 15 Ah full of enthusiasm and 4 bars on the meter. After 10 Minutes I was down to 3 bars. 10 more minutes I was down to 2 bars, at which point I headed for home. Got home I was down to the little bar on the left. A full charge got me less than 10 miles. Very disappointed. Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what I am doing wrong,? Any suggestions would be truly appreciated. Brian.
  8. Thanks for the replies.
  9. Raboa, Coincidentally I raised a similar post to this a couple of days ago for a different gadget. One of the replies that I received stated that the converter would continue to draw power from your battery even though the device was not in use and advised me to install a switch. Toodlepip Brian.
  10. How do I ensure my battery is fully charged ? The instructions supplied with my new 48v battery tell me to charge the battery until all 5 bars on display are visible then stop charging. The same set of instructions inform me that the 5 bars indicate a charge of 80-100 percent of the capacity. So I am assuming that if I stop charging when the 5th bar shows I only have battery charged to the lower end of the range specified. This seems to be confirmed by the fifth bar only being visible for a couple of minutes use. The 5 bars seem a very basic method of determining a complete charge is it possible to add a voltmeter to give a more accurate status? My lack of understanding of things electric is legendary and if I am over thinking this then please let me know and I will go and l worry about something else ☺️ Toodlepip Brian
  11. Settled on the 48v 250w BBS01ET from Whoosh, Andy was a great help and a delight to deal with. The kit arrived within 24 hours, and was a very straightforward installation, my bike was missing some mounting lugs for the battery rack and needed some additional tools which slowed the build, but I am now mobile. I have clocked up 1.5 miles on the meter, during which I think I broke 4 laws! It must be impossible to ride an e-bike wihout committing some crime or other. Toodlepip Brian
  12. Many thanks for the excellent replies, buck converters on order. I do have a power pack that I considered using but that is just another item to charge, I like the idea of a single power source, so I will connect the head lamps up the same way. Toodlepip Brian
  13. I am currently tweeking the installation in of a BBS01ET (rack battery) kit. I am looking to add a permanent power supply to the handlebars for charging / using an Android mobile phone Can anyone please advise if there is a suitable power supply within this kit that I can pick up?
  14. Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I am currently leaning towards a mid-drive unit and am in correspondence with whoosh to establish comparability with my bottom bracket which looks different to all others I have seen on YouTube. To be 100 percent sure I decided to strip out my bottom bracket and take some pictures/measurements. To take the BB out I needed a couple of tools which I promptly ordered At this point the project came to an abrupt halt, with the spanners becoming a casualty of the postal strike. No progress for10 days. Very frustrating, but not the end of the world and it is freezing in my shed. Toodlepip Brian
  15. Hi, Recently retired, finished remodelling the house, sold the car, built a couple of hot air engines, bored out of my brain, decided to buy a bike. Due to lack of storage I wanted a folding bike, but also wanted a full 26" wheel. I used to be a keen cyclist but I can't remember my legs hurting like this. I'm now 70 years of age and I definitely need some help going up the hills. I have just started looking for kits and realised that I bought the wrong bike. Converting this one may take me a while but am working on being kitted out with electric drive and camping trailer by early summer 2023. Toodlepip Brian
