So, I've bought an electric bike "project", now starts the questions!!
Thanks for your informative reply to someone who had never sat on an electrically assisted bicycle until last week! I attached the photos relevant to my initial query ie the markings/ purpose of rocker switch along with wire colours, the push button, and for reference the PAS which is patently not correctly set at the moment. To expand, this bike will be used for a 4 mile commute across mainly flat Essex roads, with a handy 8 hour shift to recharge. I figured that by fitting a new battery to the existing stem mount and controller the bike would probably manage that? Also, I imagined that setting the crank trigger wheel correctly would be an obvious first step to getting this behemoth moving? New battery is presently on charge....

So, I've bought an electric bike "project", now starts the questions!!
I threw £50 at a 2007 Barracuda Colt with 24 volt front wheel drive on 26" mountain bike tyres. Came without battery or charger, which I have sourced as a frog battery stem set. I tried it with a 24 volt source and it zipped off fast but erratically, so the motor seems to work, but I suspect the wiring to be iffy! I can see that the PAS has been reversed and has a 10mm airgap so I will set that right when the battery etc turn up. In the meantime, this beast of a machine has a 3 position rocker switch on the left handlebar marked A, 0, and A/E (wires red, blue and black), also a greeny blue unmarked pushbutton on the right handlebar with 2 wires disappearing into the loom. As I am starting on a voyage of discovery, can someone maybe shed some light on the function of these so I have some initial idea? Many thanks in anticipation, Pete

Steep hill ahead (learning curve)!
Your comments regarding conversions chimes in with my lifelong belief that as no two people are the same, a tailored solution rather than a one size (doesn't) fit all is the sensible approach to every situations, and I appreciate your input, many thanks!

- Steep hill ahead (learning curve)!
Hi from North Essex/Suffolk border. A medical condition requires the acquisition of an electrified bicycle after 40 years behind the wheel! One that, frankly requires as little effort as possible to give an armchair like ride to work (4 miles) and back. I am capable of working on/fixing/adapting anything electro-mechanical, but the modern cycle market is entirely new to me. So far spent the last 5 days devouring information from all sorts of sources about the various drive options, new/secondhand/kit options etc and still whittling it all down to discover my elusive dream ride! - Steep hill ahead (learning curve)!
