Hi Andrew, just wondering if you had chance to read my comments above as I had sent Oxygen an email as well unless it went to YOUR spam box?

Oxygen eMate Race
Hi, The derestriction by disconnecting a small white cable did the trick when using the throttle but I couldn't really notice any difference when using pedal assist, I am happy though. A couple of slight issues I have is with the battery which seems to last between 18-20 miles then the power lights drop from 4 to 2 thus losing a lot of power, this is when I use the pedal assist on full power, also my biggest gripe is the mudguards which Oxygen did their best to resolve but the rear is just not long enough, I have tried many others which won't fit due to the design of the bike frame so any suggestions would great - hopefully Andrew from Oxygen can give me a few tips ?

Oxygen eMate Race
Wow, thanks for the super fast reply, sorry if I am being a bit thick but I don't have any type of lcd display etc but just the small control box on my handlebars that allows me to turn the motor on, the lights and choose 1 of 3 motor speeds? When I look on the Oxygen eMate Race Web page it says it can be derestrcted for off road use? Thank you.

Oxygen eMate Race
Hi, Sorry but it has been ages since I last posted anything on Pedelecs. I am the proud owner of a Oxygen eMate Race which is great and I have seen that my bike can be derestrcted which would be great for me as the majority of my commute is not on public roads, as I understand if the bike was derestrcted I should gain approx 5mph top end so approx 18- 20mph? I totally understand thatall ebikes are rrestricted for public roads. My problem is that I have emailed Oxygen but had no response - - are they still trading as I do hope so? Is it something I could easily do myself and if so how would I do it please as I am no expert? Thanks in advance Andrew

Oxygen kit at the NEC....
Hi Alistair, thanks for the post and glad to hear you are also pleased with the Oxydrive kits. I am sure we would all love to see some images of the Hybrid bike you have that already has the Oxydrive kit fitted ? What bike is it fitted too and what sort of total weight do you get ? I live in Berkshire so Bristol is a bit of a long Trek for me otherwise I would have loved to pop in and say hi plus see what you have. Many thanks Andrew

Oxygen kit at the NEC....
Oxydrive system Hi all, I have been reading the posts regarding the Oxydrive System which certainly looks impressive on the web site and it looks as though the guys at Oxygen have done a great job. I am already the proud owner of an Oxygen eMate Race 2011 which is a great bike and superb quality, it was certainly not cheap but then again I didnt want a cheap looking bike. It does the job for me and gets to 15mph with no problem at all, it would be lovely to get to 20mph but this of course would be illegal and I dont even know if an ebike can be derestricted as I am no expert ? My Oxygen eMate Race 2011 is still fairly heavy but I suppose compared to other bikes it is very similar as approx 21kg. Anyway, so back to the Oxydrive system has anyone actually ridden a bike with this system fitted as I have a Trek 7.5FX that weighs approx 9kg so adding the Oxydrive system would still give me a very light ebike, would I still only get a max speed (Legally) of 15mph ? I would very much like to go with an Oxydrive kit but it is not something I would feel confident enough in fitting myself so hopefully it will be available soon for supply and fit at a bike shop near me soon ? Well done Oxygen.

Oxygen & New Oxydrive System.
Hi, Sorry I forgot to add how much owning an ebike has helped me as I have Type 1 Diabetes and used to find the commute home from work would burn up most of my blood sugar which can be very dangerous indeed for someone with Diabetes. So my Oxygen EMate Race 2011 has certainly helped with this as I find myself using Pedelec for most of the journey and also now and again use the throttle option.

Oxygen & New Oxydrive System.
Hi all, Sorry it is a little bit late but Happy New Year to all and I hope we are all well ? It has been almost 1 year since I purchased my Oxygen Emate Race 2011 which is fantastic and I have nothing but praise to the guys at Oxygen as this is an incredible ebike. I did lots of homework to find a great looking bike and purely by accident came across Oxygen which I am so glad I did. I have now been looking into purchasing one of the New Oxydrive systems for my Trek Hybrid 7.5FX as this would look great and of course be very light as my Trek only weighs 10kg and I believe the Oxydrive system is approx 6.9kg (Dont hold me to this though). I am still very happy with my Emate Race 2011 but am always looking for the newest upgrade and the Oxydrive system certainly looks the part. I am not sure of how difficult this system would be to fit to my bike or even if any of you guys have already tested/fitted this new system as it seems to be very new indeed ? It would be great to hear from Oxygen on how difficult the Oxydrive system is to fit and do you need to have any past experience to be able to fit it as I am not expert, I have seen that a shop can fit the kit for you if required ? What do you think of this kit and if you had the choice would you buy a specific electric bike eg Oxygen Emate Race 2011 of if you already had a lightweight standard cycle such as a Trek 7.5FX would you go with adding the Oxydrive to the Trek ? Are there any plus or minus points on either options ? One other question I have for the team at Oxygen is if I purchased your Oxydrive and had it fitted to my Trek and decided one day that I wanted to cycle without the Oxydrive how much weight would be added to my bike or rather what could be easily removed from the bike to make it as light as possible i.e. battery, motor wheel etc ? I am sure we will see lots of reviews on this type of system soon and I hope to be one of those people going forward as weight of an electric bike has always been in my mind as I do also like to cycle without using pedelec (Sorry all). Thanks for listening and I look forward to hearing your advice/comments. Andrew

Oxygen EMate Race 2011 (New).
Oxygen Emate Race 2011 * I have not had the chance to write an update/review on my brand new Oxygen Emate which is absolutely superb. * I started looking for an e-bike last year and viewed many different cycles all having plus and minus points as with everything but I particularly wanted a bike which looked sporty/fast and of course high spec so came across the guys at Oxygen. I was initially interested in their old style e-bike which also looked great but spoke to them on a few occasions and decided to wait for the release of their new bikes which was only a month or so ago. I have Type 1 Diabetes and have been riding a short commute to work of 4 miles each way but still found it hard going after a long day at work and also it was burning a lot of carbohydrates which for someone with Diabetes can be a serious problem. Riding my Oxygen Emate Race 2011 has made such a difference to my work comute that it only takes me 15 minutes to get home with a mixture of throttle only and pedal assist, the battery seems to last all week but I have a top up charge mid week as it can make a slight difference to the power. I ended up speaking to some great people within the e-bike industry all of which have been very helpful indeed including Wisper Bikes, Cytronex, Ultra Motor etc and each of these companies have a great selection of high quality bikes. * Down to the exciting stuff !! * Oxygen Emate Race 2011. ·******** Designed for off road ·******** 37V 15Ah Lithium Polymer battery pack ·******** 250W 8FUN Bafang motor ·******** Shimano Deore LX deraillur ·******** Bengal Performance disc brakes ·******** 3 power modes + throttle The bike has a black matt finish which looks very impressive indeed and certainly one of the best paint finishes I have seen, this also makes the e-bike look very modern indeed and takes you away from that traditional looking electric cycle. So to sumarise the New Oxygen EMate Race 2011 is a superb built quality e-bike and surpases my expectations - well done to the team at Oxygen. *

Thanks for the info Flecc.

Which Ebike - I am lost/confused.
Hi all Thanks again for the info - I am based in Berkshire so getting to places by train etc is no problem. I did go to last years Cycle Show which was great - I just wish I had the money to buy what I want ha ha. I managed to test ride an Ebco Ebike, Wisper and the Ultra Motor A2B all of which were great but I did find the A2B Metro very heavy/bulky but understand they are to release some new bikes soon. Wisper were also nice and smooth to ride if not a little expensive, not so sure about Ebco as it is quite a different looking cycle and not my cup of tea. Is there any sort of ebike magazine available to buy as I have not seen one - this would be great ? I do like the idea of both pedal assist and full throttle which I do not beleive Cytronex offer ?
-
Which Ebike - I am lost/confused.
So any ideas are actual ebike brands or models please ? Also why do you thinks it's best as there are quite a few to choose from ?
-
Which Ebike - I am lost/confused.
Thanks very much for the info as it does help - there are so many makes/prices/types to choose from ? I am sure I will be on my way and happy soon

What do you think about this Buying Guide?
Thanks Thanks for the guide which answers quite a few questions I had. Very good indeed. Well done - I just need to find an ebike now.

Which Ebike - I am lost/confused.
Hi I have been looking at an Ebike for my 4 mile work commute and there are so many to choose from and different designs etc. I currently have a Trek Hybrid Road Bike which is fairly fast but hard work and given the fact I have Type 1 Diabetes it just burns up my Carbohydrates plus I am exhausted when I get home. I am not a great lover of the old fashioned looking ebike or montain bike style as they look rather heavy. I see they are restricted to something like 15 mph so does that mean even if I cycle a little my max speed is 15 mph ? Why do they all seem to only have 8 gears ? Does the weight of an ebike make much of a difference when riding as it does with normal cycles ? The price seems to vary alot for an ebike so some ideas would be great for a fast/light/race looking bike. I like Cytronex but they do not seem to do any sort of deals ? Do I also need to look out for anything in particular I.e. Motor type/Battery etc as I do not know much about bikes at all ? Thanks in advance for your help. Andrew Borrett

Frozen hands - need new gloves
Hi all Sorry but did we decide on some good winter gloves as I have some Altura Winter Gloves which are just not up to scratch. I prefer lighter gloves rather than motorcycle gloves to be honest. I have heard mitts are good but surely makes it difficult to use the brakes with 2 fingers ? Or should I try a thin pair of inner gloves and if yes which ones are best ? Many thanks

Wisper 906xc Review
Hi I have seen the Wisper 906XC which is a great quality e-bike I had seen at the Cycle Show. Yes they are expensive but I suppose you get what you pay for but at £2200 it is way out of my league. I had spoken to David from Wisper in the past who is a real nice chap so keep up the good work. So would you buy th Wisper 906XC again given the choice and the fact you have been riding it for a while now ? I use a Trek Hybrid standard light road bike (Not electric) but do worry that an e-bike would be slow and heavy cycling without power as my Trek is pretty fast with slick road tyres ? For me I am still waiting for my ideal e-bike so hopefully the new year will bring some good news. Thanks for the review. Andrew

Frozen hands - need new gloves
Hi How do you find the Dakine mitts as I have never used a mitt before for cycling ? My hands literally freeze on my sails commute and currently use Altura Winter Gloves which cost £35 but don't seem up for the freezing weather ? Many thanks Andrew

E-bike lights
Thanks Patrick, If I had car headlights on my bike all would be well but maybe a bit heavy ha ha ! Cycling during the day for me is fine but my current lights do not light the road directly in front of me ie not powerful enough. Even if I shine the lights directly down on the road the spread is very small almost like a pocket torch in fact. They work fine for people to see me but not so much for night riding as I have seen some cyclists with some great lights which light a fair proportion of the road in front. I know some cycle lights are especially designed not to glare car drivers as well. Thanks all for the advice. Andrew

E-bike lights
Hi Mark Thanks for the info. I have been looking at the Exposure MaXx-D Mk3 and also the Busch & Müller KG Big Bang which are both expensive but very bright indeed. Whichever light I choose would be tilted towards the road - my 2 Cateye lights just do not pack enough power for illuminating the road in front. I suppose I will keep looking but these are two great contenders. Thanks again. Andrew

E-bike lights
Hi Dan, correct I am unable to drive a car at night due to poor night vision but with riding a cycle the lights are literally right in front of you on the road which is another reason I need a bright light. Not forgetting my speed is only a max of 15 mph where as in a car it could be 60 mph. Thanks again.

E-bike lights
Busch & Müller KG Hi Has anyone out there come across a cycle light brand called Busch & Müller KG as they look very impressive if not a little expensive. If I was just riding a normal road cycle the light I currently use would probably suffice but as I will be using an e-bike thought something bright would be needed. My 2 Cateye lights make me seen but do not really light the road enough for my poor night vision. As I am looking to purchase an e-bike in January I really need a decent light and appreciate your recommendations so far. Thanks again Andrew My Pump - Diabetes Product Information and Links - Welcome to My Pump Website !!!
