  1. None whatsoever !,, have used the bike every day for work and the occasional trip to my dads place in Harlesden, round trip of 22 miles and the battery still shows 2 green lights -should be good for close to 30 miles total distance I reckon, and now the weather has warmed up,I've noticed an improvement in performance- could be me though getting slightly fitter !!.
  2. Update pt2 ! After a bit of research and thanks to a lot of help and advice from the pedelec forum users, decided to get a bottle battery installed, rather than getting my existing battery box re-celled, found a company called Kinisys based in Borehamwood -not too far from my house and once I contacted the owner, made arrangements to have the battery fitted,, while waiting for his mechanic to complete the fit, he offered me a few rides on a selection of bikes, got to be honest now, some of them are insane !!- it was almost possible to wheelie an electric bike -definitely not 250w and the advice to put my weight close to the front wheel on some of them was no exaggeration !. Nice to have all that power available and I can see why for some the uk/euro limit is willfully low-anyhow,battery all fitted and time to test the Alien, took the bike home and put it on full charge-about 3hrs-result ! , bike is totally transformed and holds 18.2 on the flat like its no tomorrow, speed drops slightly to 11.2 on hill climbing but with assistance from me soon picks up again. all in all ,a worthwhile upgrade- battery is rated at 36V 11.4AH and the duration so far was yesterday managing 24 miles with a mixture of throttle and pedelling before the red light went out-even on orange, the battery was doing its thing, not as lively but still there, and this is in cold conditions going to work at 6.30am !,, battery should improve when the weather warms up I think. And the price was nice as well- £235 inc fitting, charger and 2 yr warranty !....
  3. Just finished a round trip of 15 miles on the Alien and have to say apart from two morons on drop bar racers who wished me dead, the majority of cyclists I met today were courteous, and one pulled along side me and commented that with the saddle bags i had on the rear carrier- it looked like a normal bicycle. One thing i've only just figured out,the pedelec function works better in a lower gear- if I stay in the second chain gear set and bottom cog,it feels like someone is pushing right in the small of my back !
  4. Only thing that slightly puts me off is the battery case, otherwise, that looks the biz !!.
  5. If that's the case, its looking more likely that the bike is totally legal and not a hot rod !!!
  6. Thanks d8veh, just needed to hear this, now roll on sunny days ! ,will be getting a new battery on Saturday.
  7. Just remembered I've got an old Iphone 3gs with some cycle apps on it including several bike speed /distance toys on it-will try it mounted on the bars and see if I get the same readings as the cat eye.
  8. In essence your saying that with the correct bike battery, the bike will be then legal- 15.5mph?
  9. Update : Made up a power lead from a 12s 5000mah lipo pack (Turnigy Blue 40C) to the controller via the bike power connector with an inline on/off switch and 30A fuse- powered up and eureka, it all works !, throttle works as it should and so does the pedelec function- on the road the cats eye speedo indicates a steady 21.1 mph,, speed eventually settled down to 17.9 mph and after a quick blast up Harrow on the Hill-made my way down the Greenford Rd to Northolt then back home !.. An absolute blast to ride and something to look forward to using more and more often,,, So before I buy a new battery a couple of questions- if my bike really was travelling at the indicated speeds, does this mean its been derestricted ? or would I have to calibrate the speedo to get a true reading, and secondly where do I stand legally with this bike?, -I've still got a Fazer 600 motorcycle so don't really want to risk my car and bike license for a few extra mph !.
  10. Thanks again, looks like I might get some new batteries from Woosh, very informative web site and nice prices !, also Eclipse bikes will have a look in- seems a lot has changed since my last electric bike..
  11. That's excellent advice ,thanks !, dimensions are 334mm x 151mm x43mm-has integral rear light and on/off switch on l/hand side.. How much inc postage for that- also have looked at the bottle types and if it improves the handling may consider that also.
  12. One of my other hobbies is rc helicopters,,would it be possible to rig a 36v 5ah battery pack just so I can definitely rule out the bike battery as the main culprit- i do have testing equipment but only for 24v- could the battery be rebuilt and where would I get a replacement from locally?..
  13. Its a rack mounted battery..
  14. Hi,haven't posted for nearly 3 yrs !!!,, had a change of direction and bought myself a Boardman Comp as my last electric bike- Currie i zip and powered by 24v sla batteries kinda made me give up the whole electric scene !,,anyhow, got the urge to try electric bikes again and purchased an Alien Ocean from ebay- pretty good condition and the lipo battery (36v 10ah ) all 3 leds light up green- previous owner stated that lipo is 2yrs old and I suspect this could be the problem as lifting the front wheel off the ground, while on the center stand-the wheel spins at an indicated 22.1mph and the pedelec function works as it should, the main problem being that as soon as I start pedelling or twist the throttle to actually ride the bike- the bike cuts out !,, sometimes I can ride for a 1/4 mile ,and others less than 4 rotations of the back wheel- each time this happens I have to reset the on/off switch on the battery to restore power.. Checked all the wiring from the controller and cleaned the battery connectors-throttle works ok and there's no funny noises from the front hub drive- could the battery be failing under load or is the hall sensor itself?... I'm based in Harrow and since Alien went bust- any recommendation of a repair center or service shop please?, thanks,,
  15. Got decorating to do, hopefully will get down to Hampstead Heath in the afternoon with a couple of new cycling buddies- looks like I may have started a trend in my area as I've recently noticed more ebike's on the road ,,,
  16. Point taken, but, my problem was the lorry driver was OVERTAKING ME and it was only thru preventative action - me getting on to the pavement, that an accident didn't occur. Glad I rode motorcycles all those years as I not sure I would like to ride a cycle on today's roads without that experience,,,,
  17. Had to do that only yesterday morning while cycling to work,,, Ended up pulling quite sharply at a bus stop and almost scattering a load of people who where standing there !!,, fortunately, I stopped in time . Some woman came up to me and offered to be a witness but nobody could recall the whole number plate of the lorry- I've given what details I could recall to the police but am not holding my breath.
  18. Had that happen the first time I got some lipo packs from HK, basically, if you don't pay the tax, they hang on to the goods !! I'm a lot more aware when buying goods from overseas now,,,,,,,
  19. Just realised when I get my Boardman road comp race bike(non epowered) next thurs, I will have a machine that will easily exceed the uk road speed limit-leg muscles notwithstanding
  20. The point of me doing this was purely to see what was possible following a tyre change,, it's NOT something I intend to do on a regular basis anyway,,,,,,,,
  21. Having changed my tyres from knobbly's to Schwalbe jet city tyres today, noticed just how much easier the bike is to ride- top speed on flat main roads now average 21mph and taking it from the top of Harrow hill, I hit an indicated 37mph past the speed camera !!! - couldn't tell if the flash went off as the sun was really bright.
  22. Mine weighs in at 32kg !! Salcano Commander with Izip CB24 conversion kit,, going to change to Schwalbe City Jet 26 x 1.5 tyres tomorrow morning- should make the going slightly easier.
  23. Nice price but I need one by Monday for work !!! Nearest shop that caters for ebikes near me would be The electric transport shop in N7 or 50 cycles in Richmond,, if as you say I would only require 3 wires to work, I could maybe splice in another controller and do without the battery lights( which don't really mean much anyway)- the thumb controller seems to be basically either on or off.
  24. Flecc:Thanks for that !!- just got back from the in-laws (!) so will see if I can have a better look at it tomorrow and maybe try and repair it- failing that ,will probably just get a new one and be done with it..
