  1. Finally shelled out for a private MRI, quoting Spike Milligan again "told you I was ill"... I am, unfortunately, quite broken, seeing orthopaedics in 10 days but looking like I'll need surgery to fix things, for the blood thirsty, here's the report Findings 1. 1.5 cm width full-thickness supraspinatus tendon tear with subacromial retraction (2.2 cm). 2. Lowgrade partial thickness superior 1/3 subscapularis tendon tear. No other rotator cuff tendon tear. Mild supraspinatus muscle fatty atrophy. No rotator cuff muscle pathology. 3. Mild medial subluxation of the long head biceps tendon which is also partially torn with tenosynovitis. Biceps anchor fraying. 4. SLAP tear, likely type II. 5. Mild to moderate ACJ degeneration with fat acromion causing subacromial bursal indentation. 6. No signifcant chondropathy. Small glenohumeral joint effusion. No adhesive capsulitis. No other bone marrow pathology.
  2. Thanks for suggestion, I did have a static recumbent bike for a while, waiting to see if I need surgery or just being a wuss, will bear it in mind.
  3. Morning all, unfortunately still struggling, can't move my right arm much, physio not helped so shelling out for a MRI on Monday. Finally got NHS orthopaedic and pain referrals. So we will see. I can do lower body workouts and just got back in the pool with a kick board but not allowed (or able) to use arms. My son also tore 4 ligaments in his foot playing badminton so we are going to have a joint drunken physio session on Christmas day. Have a wonderful Christmas and stay safe out there!
  4. Couldn't agree more. Anticipate what is ahead and adjust speed accordingly. Good brakes are very important too. That is why I keep telling people that saving few £ on brakes is a false economy. That's why I was annoyed, I remember going out thinking "you'll have to watch out for this bend" and then completely crept up on me as there were no landmarks to identify it before. Anyway, physio has banned swimming for a couple of weeks, done a modified session with PT (no weights) but a day on a foraging walk last week caused it to all seize up again, so not quite there yet, thanks for all the advice x
  5. Thank you, I'm impatient, but lots of short rides to build up is a good idea. I've built up from 2 to 18 miles in 3 months, so just need to get back to enjoying it. Unfortunately, not many low traffic routes, but even riding on housing estate roads 'counts" I guess
  6. Any tips/advice on getting back on after a crash? Took a hire bike out on holibobs and did the Cornish CTC trail, which for me, was quite a ride at 18 miles, mostly flat, but quite a bit of off road bumpy stuff. Liked the bike as it was lighter than mine (I've got a haibike Trek) this was a Trek bike so might swap. Anyway, all went well, was just coming down the last 200 yard trail before the car park at bissoe, which has a hairpin downhill. Misjudged the speed and steering so ended up hitting a tree and coming off sideways on my ribs and shoulder. Got up pretty quickly, didn't want to be run over, and limped back to car park, whereupon hubby sighed "not again...". Anyway, nothing broken, had a much more serious rib injury last year after being pulled over by a dog, that took months to heal, this is nothing like as bad, but more psychological - trying to ignore the voice in my head that says I'm too old/unfit etc - (I'm 61, just lost a stone in weight, working out with a trainer etc, so doing all the "right" things) just with winter coming, I don't want to "give up" but have dented my confidence, any helpful advice etc welcome.... any helpful advice/suggestuo
  7. LOL, I fell onto my driveway trying to get OFF my step thru - just finished the longest ride I'd done, forgot I'd put the saddle up to see if it helped my knees, then found my legs weren't working and once I'd tipped the bike sideways, 20 kg of bike, pannier and locks kept going, so I let go, pushed it away and fell backwards onto my (thankfully) padded arse and hands. Luckily, no one saw, however have now had a nastier crash going downhill at speed, so feeling sore and sorry for myself, how anyone manages a cross bar with a heavy bike and short legs is beyond me!
  8. I didn't even try to ride down it, just hanging onto it was bad enough. However, the more terrifying alternative would have been riding through the centre of Reading in the rush hou!
  9. Going up the ramp is on the "wrong" side for me, so had to bump up the steps, getting down more terrifying trying to hang on whilst judiciously applying the brakes intermittently. Still, we survived, another 8 miler and h
  10. Got Helga (bike) back today. They got the OK from Haibike to order new battery so swapped it out and delivered it back this afternoon. Did a quick 2 miles this evening, just in case, but all seems well so hopefully that's it.
  11. Thanks, dealer picked it up today, unfortunately it's a battery failure so waiting for Haibike to approve warranty claim for a new battery, they initially thought it was something with a loose connection, but when they ran diagnostics it advised battery replacement required, so just need to wait it out.
  12. Thanks, will take it back Thursday morning, gonna be fun hefting it into the boot!! Dealer is 15 miles away so no way I could push it there!
  13. Well after only 40 miles (and a week off on holiday) I went to ride this evening and got nowhere! Pushed bike out of the garage then turned on, immediately got flashing display Error 74. Tried to ride it but obvious the motor wasn't on as almost impossible to get up an incline (I'm not that fit1) after about 1 minute of pedalling the display went blank. Got home, checked charge and 3/4 charged so did my usual switch it off, go away come back and try again - same outcome. Have managed to download a generic Yamaha manual from Winora, but of course, it doesn't give any helpful information, only instructs you to take the bike to the dealer - which I will do, but just wondered if anyone knows what error 74 is and what could have caused it? Not impressed as it's a brand new bike and as they've shortened the handlebars, can't be exchanged
  14. At the moment they go in panniers but will have to get a box to bungee to the rack as I have no room for groceries/wine....
  15. Lycra, with dayglo padding from a company called "fat lad at the back" or FLAB for short!
  16. Here is Helga...
  17. The World isn't quite ready for the sight of me in my padded lycra shorts, but boy am I glad I got them!!
  18. Helped by the weather, have been out every day and clocked up 30 miles, longest trip being 8miles. Not bad for an oldie who hasn't ridden for over 20 years. Battery still on 60%. Mostly ride in standard mode, occasionally use max assist if I'm knackered on the way back. Now have 2 locks which makes it a lot easier. So plan is to do a couple of 8 miles - with a stop, then 10, etc , ultimate aim is to cycle to next town which is 8 miles each way. Still working out off road routes and which pubs/cafes have furniture suitable for locking bikes to.....
  19. Thanks everyone, looks like I'll get a second lock, think the Abus is the only one longer than the 19.5 the hiplok is?
  20. Will just have to leave rear wheel out, or get a second lock. tBH I'm not going to leave it for hours in dodgy areas, mostly outside cafes or local cal shopping centre in broad daylight.
  21. It depends on how thick the post is, sometimes I can get the wheel in too, but not always. Couldn't insure it without the required standard lock, but might have to combine with a cable, which makes the very expensive lock pointless...
  22. Hi all, does anyone else have issues with Hiplok DX? I've had problems locking it every time. Asked a fairly fit looking and much younger cyclist to help and it took him 3 or 4 attempts to get key to turn in lock. Going to usenail varnish so I know which way round the bar locates. It locks easily when not under pressure, maybe I need to brace it in place while turning? Managed 8 miles today (last mile in full assist with tired legs) but pleased with that....
  23. First outing today . Main problem was getting lock to fit the post, just enough room! Panniers a bit tricky but just need to bed in as my fingers not too strong. Wimped out and rode it in automatic mode as I've not ridden for years so balance, braking and steering quite enough for now. Will progress to lower assistance level and using gears next week. Just a mile to local shopping centre where I'm recovering with coffee and cake . Just started raining here and forgot carrier bag for saddle, so quick wipe with sleeve will have to do....
  24. Btw, I took have built in obsolescence, not sure if the bike will fail first or me
  25. Yup, time will tell, hopefully you won't see it advertised on here at Christmas!
