A good laugh
Here's another good laugh - after sales service from 50cycles At the beginning of January, our bike developed more faults. We contacted 50cycles for advice and we were told that parts will be sent by return for our local bike shop to fit for us. That was 4 weeks ago. Despite regular tel calls and emails we still don't have the parts. I wonder if anyone on this forum who has a close working relationship with the business would be willing to have a word in someones ear to get them moving. We would like to be able to use the bike again.

Flecc, how do you think this compares to the ezee forte? after reading these reports, i'm in danger of post cognitive dissonance. PS. finally received my second charger today.

Response to Flecc's advice on hill cut out
Li-ion cut-out on hills Flecc, what you describe is exactly my experience with the ezee forte. I climb up Crawley hill - a 12% for about 3/4 mile and Spring Hill which climbs for 2 miles with 3 short steep sections about 10% each. I found the Li-ion cut out on full throttle with me pedalling. It stays in the amber range when I use partial throttle and pedal in 1st gear. I have to rest once or twice on the way up each way - for me and the motor. I manage speeds of between 4 - 9mph this way. Taking your advice, I will get a Nimh battery next time

Winter draws on
flashing Blue tabard thingy My Bike shop man told me he saw me cycling in the dark with the flashing blue tabard thingy and he could see me very clearly from quite a distance in the dark. However, it was an unlit country road so no other lights around to distract. It doesn't look very bright so i've had doubts as to how visible i was with it. Maybe its better than it looks.

charger not working
faulty Ezee Li-ion charger I had this problem recently. 50 cycles replaced it when i brought it to their attention.

Li-ion Battery Life
Battery Life Flecc I am riding the ezee forte with a Li-ion battery, which strains in the amber range for about 2.5 miles of hill climbing twice a day. From what you say about battery life and hill climbing, I can expect to replace it in a few months... have i understood you right there? Can I use a NiMh battery on this model? This week, it hit the red zone for the first time up a hill, is this a bad sign? Certainly the motor strains, despite my pedalling contribution and 2 rests on- route to the summit.

The Powabyke/Ezee F series debate.. Who will service my bike?
How to attract older men I agree - the forte is a bit of a head turner round here. If you want to attract the attention of mechanically minded older men, the forte is the one for you! tee hee

The Electric Bike Industry-Boom or Bust?
Thanks Ian - and the bike is great! Thanks Ian. It has been a bruising experience. Thankfully, thats in the past and we all have had a chance to learn from it. I've been having a great time with the bike. The bike makes my early starts and late finishes something to look forward to. I bought some great lights - electron - and can now see in the dark when cycling home through these dark lanes and be seen very well by motorists. There's been a lot of interest locally and I am doing a piece in the local paper in a couple of weeks about commuting with the bike. The local car club is also looking at the bike next week to see if it is something they want to include in their repertoire. I will be writing to my local councillors and MP next week about the lack of transport locally. I would like to promote the electric bike as an option for local people but to be a viable option the right support needs to be in place first. Watch this space. Mil

Ezee bikes on trains
Has anyone ever been refused travel on a train with their ezee bike? We want to do a commute to Bristol and back some days and thought we'd ask here first if anyone has had any problems getting on a train with their bike. thanks Mil

The Electric Bike Industry-Boom or Bust?
50cycles service can be bettered Flecc and Ian I too, would have been more than happy with this service if thats what had happened. Unfortunately it didn't. I was hoping to avoid a pedantic detailed account of this saga but here goes..... Sunday - the battery charger failed. I posted here for advice then emailed 50cycles when Flecc kindly tried and exhausted all his options for fixing it. Monday - I called 50cycles and spoke to Lloyd at 10.15am and explained the problem to him. I also purchased a 2nd charger. We discussed delivery and the postal strike and he VERY KINDLY AND CONSIDERATELY decided to send 2 tried and tested chargers to me to arrive next day by courier. I explained that we would both be at work. If no signature was required they could leave it in the recycle bin by the front door. He spoke to the delivery company while on the phone to me and they told him that would be no problem. I said thankyou to lloyd for his efforts and to get back to me if there were any problems. I didn't hear from him so I assumed all was well. Tuesday - came and went but no charger arrived. However, there was a card from dhl through the door saying they had tried to deliver but no-one was in to sign! Furthermore, the delivery person had not written a parcel no. on the card so i could not re-arrange alternative delivery through the automated system they use by phone or on their website. No parcel number = no access to the system. I spoke to dhl customer services. I was told, no parcel number = no access to the system. They said 50cycles would have to contact dhl and rearrange delivery. Anyone who'se had to deal with this sort of problem knows how long i spent getting this far. A very long time. Wednesday - I called 50cycles and told them what had happened and that they need to contact the delivery company to arrange delivery. I spoke to James who told me that 50cycles is a bike shop not a delivery company, that it was my problem that no-one was in and the charger couldn't be delivered, that 50cycles have bent over backwards to get the chargers to me and it was my problem that the parcel couldn't be delivered! And this despite me explaining that Lloyd had been told that it could be left in the recycle bin and he hadn't got back to me that it could not be. I'm sure you'd have felt as angry and frustrated as I did had you been spoken to like this. I think you all know what I expected. 50 cycles had the parcel no.and the contract with the delivery service. I had no evidence or proof that i owned the parcel as i had no parcel number! Eventually, another employee took on to find out what had happened. Clearly, there had been a failure of communication between 50cycles and their delivery company. A man in their delivery company had told lloyd wrong information. I received an apology from James and we agred that the parcel would be sent to my work on thursday. Thursday - came and went and no charger arrived. At 4pm i called 50 cycles to say it hadn't arrived yet, james knew it wasn't going to arrive that day and gave me the tel. no of their delivery company who told me their computer system was down and the change of delivery had not been sent to dhl. thats why it hadn't arrived! and no-one seemed to know if and when it would arrive. Friday - my partners day off so she took over the shambolic situation. She called 50cycles and could barely get a word out before she was showered with profuse apologies for the absolute farce and at last, an acknowledgement from 50cycles that the problem stemmed from poor communication between 50 cycles and their delivery company. She was told a 3rd charger was in the post being sent by next day service. Saturday - the charger arrived and i was able to charge the battery. Tomorrow I will be able to use the bike to get to work for the first time in over a week. Today - I am still waiting for delivery of the 2nd charger i purchased. I've not heard anything from 50cycles and have no idea if or when it will be delivered. I am sorry it took so much hard work on the part of me and my partner to get 50cycles to finally prise open their minds and consider the problem might be at their end - not mine. When they did, they quickly identified the problem and a solution and they provided the service they clearly perform often enough to earn the loyalty of your "unbiased" selves, albeit, a week later than promised. Flecc, I can think of a few ways that 50 cycles could have bettered their efforts .... 1. They could have behaved with respect when i called on wedneday and told them about the delivery problem, and refrained from insulting me on the phone. 2. They might have considered the problem might be at their end - even though it looked like it was at mine. 3. They offer delivery as part of the purchase. By working in partnership with the customer they can ensure the items purchased from them are delivered. Still expecting the best Mil

How safe is a Li-ion battery?
I have been reading about the tendency for lithium batteries to explode. Is this true? how safe is the one sitting under my saddle?

Homemade LED Rearlamp
thanks flecc. i've ordered some of them.

Knock Knock...
My new bike has thick tyres like a mountain bike that grip the tarmac too much - feels like riding through treacle and definately slows me down. I'd prefer touring tyres like on my old bicycle as they travel more freely over the tarmac.

try my ezee forte Hi musicbooks i have just bought one of these. when the battery charger arrives, you're welcome to come and try it out on my hills which are equal to the one that goes up to bath uni from town. I've walked that one myself. I test rode a powabike during my research and though it was a lot cheaper it was heavier and higher off the ground than the forte which made it difficult to manouver safely. I am not too far from bath if you want to take up my offer. mil- Urgent request for Li-ion charger tonight
it didn't work out see my posting on what happened next. Still no battery charger! Another day on taxi's to work and a £1300 bike I can't use!- Urgent request for Li-ion charger tonight
Re: Taxi option a taxi costs £20 each way. thats 3/4s of a days pay for me. I suppose earning £15 is better than earning nothing as that seems to be what i'll be doing tomorrow.- Urgent request for Li-ion charger tonight
Hi I am in urgent need of a battery charger to charge up my Li-ion battery so i can get to work tomorrow. I just purchased my ezee forte on friday but the charger has broken and 50cycles can't get a charger to me til tomorrow. Does anyone out there live near south gloucestershire who will lend me their charger to charge my battery tonight? I can collect the charger and my partner can drop it back off tomorrow. Many thanks for putting your minds to this problem. Mil- Need a FAQ for ezee forte
Can someone post a FAQ for ezee forte thanks- Bikes for Big Blokes
Latest on Test rides Hi Guys I tested a euro chopper in painswick today. It got me up some steep (12%)short hills very easily, maybe 7mph with me pedalling. I am going to test a powabike this week too. My partners work has agreed to join the gov't bike scheme so i can purchase a bike through it. Well actually they purchase, we rent, then after 2 years we get an option to buy it. The scheme pays for upto £2500 fantastic! - Hill-Friendly Bike
