  1. The fuse hasn't blown. The battery lights up when it's not connected to the bike but when we put it back in place it won't work. It's been pretty wet recently so that might why there is corrosion? At least we've found the problem now.
  2. It was new when bought in September. Sent the husband out to the garage to have a look and it's the small metal bar with the prongs that go into the battery has snapped in half and there is corrosion around the wires connected to the prong bar. I'm going to phone powacycle on Tuesday and see if I can get a new prong bar then husband said he will solder it.
  3. Cycling home from work and suddenly lost power and there were no lights on the battery. Got a new fuse and battery worked fine again. Put the battery back in the bike this morning and turned it on and all lights flicked off so I assume the fuse has blown again. Any ideas what this might be? Something on the bike is blowing the battery fuse but I have no idea where to start. Only had the bike since Sept!
  4. I seem to have got it working again. I went and had another look at it after dinner and gave the wires another wiggle and it all came back to life! I had a little pedal up the road to start with it was juddering like the chain was slipping a couple of times then I went over a drain so it bounced around a bit and it started going along smoothly again so did a mile around the block and it was fine and flying along. I'll get Halfords to give it a look over and service if needs be when they repair the loose pedal (Halfords said it probably just needs tightening) and see how I go. It's a good 50 minute drive to where I bought it from so would lke to avoid going there unless I have to. Thanks for the replies. I'll probably upgrade to a more expensive bike next summer as I seem to be slightly addicted to cycling now and rarely use the car!
  5. Had my bike for 6 weeks and it's stopped working! The pedal became loose a few weeks ago and it's booked in for repair next week. Today the power just cut out. Thought it was battery so have charged it up. If I lift up the back wheel and pull back the throttle and it will kick in for a second then stop. One time I tried it the power kicked in a stayed on for about 20 seconds then stopped again. There is nothing at all when I pedal. I've rung the place I bought it from and they said they will get back to me tomorrow as it might be easily fixed. Any ideas? I'm hoping it's just a loose connection somewhere but I've looked at it (I know looking at it won't work ) and wiggled a few wires. Should I remove the battery and wiggle that? Bit annoying as I need to get to work on it at 8am!
  6. Thanks again, It's a broken or loose bracket according to Halflords. Said the most it will cost is £15 if it needs replacing so booked in for two weeks time. They are very busy so that's why I've got to wait so long!
  7. Thanks for the replies. It'll have to be Halfords as it's the nearest for me and I pass it on my way home from work. We're lacking a bit in bike shops where I live.
  8. How often (miles) should I be getting my electric bike serviced? My Powacycle Salisbury seems to have developed a bit of a pedal wobble (feels loose and wobbles side to side) which is probably just a matter of tightening it up. I must admit I've been giving it a bit of a pounding over the month I've owned it! Where should I take it? Halfords is quite convenient for me but would I be better off taking it to an independant shop. Husband is pretty good with these sort of things so is it best to just let him do it or is it somethig that is best done by someone trained? Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the reply. Need to charge everyday by the looks of it. Did have two bags full of shopping after being to Tesco which added a bit extra weight so not surprised the battery went flat! I'm not very technically minded so I instantly thought there was something wrong!
  10. I've only had my electric bike a week and have used it everyday, done about 90 miles so far. On the second day I had one episode of juddering after I'd been out on it all day and then cut out so assumed it was battery. Today after about 10 miles I got some juddering again when I pulled back on the throttle and a very slight judder when pedalling but it was happening on and off for about 2 miles. Is this just the battery going flat? The one time the battery went totally flat it just stopped and I had to pedal normally. It's a powacycle Salisbury (or as I've now named her "Sally")
  11. I'm looking at child seats to put my daughter in and wondered if there is any problems with fitting one on a powacycle that I should know about before I buy one from Amazon.
  12. After MONTHS looking at electric bikes and deciding if I could live without the car I took the plunge and bought a Powacycle Salisbury. I went and had a look at one and gave it a test ride and the guy there was very helpful and showed me how it worked and I loved it so bought it there and then! After spending 20 minutes trying to fit it in my car and playing musical chairs with the the three children and my friend we finally got going. It is a surprisingly long bike. That evening I went out for a short ride and had great fun. The next day did the 8 mile round trip to work without even breaking into a sweat and when I got home from work had a quick lunch then told the husband we were going out for a bike ride and spent the whole afternoon on the bike so did 13 miles that day and still had battery left! The next day did the 8 mile round trip again and did a slightly shorter ride in the afternoon so about 12 miles. Using the bike for the past two days has saved me £10 already as haven't had to pay for petrol or parking charges. I wish I'd bought one years ago!! My husband said we should have bought two so he could have one but he only has a 2 mile cycle to work so can stick with his normal bike for now.
  13. Thanks for the offer but I want to buy new. I'm trying to decide between the powacycle salisbury or the powabyke x6 now. I don't suppose anyone knows the frame size of the Salisbury? It just says adult size frame.
  14. I've come home from work today with the intention of buying my first ever electric bike. After a lot of looking around I decided to get the cyclamatic. Yesterday it was £546 and today it's £699!! . The only place it's still £546 is 24retail but I'm not entirely convinced they are going to be very helpful if I have any problems with the bike in the future. So now I'm not sure what to do. Would you wait and see if the price goes down or I was thinking of getting a powacycle. It's the principal that I don't want to pay the higher price. If I'd never seen it at the lower price I wouldn't have a bee in my bonnet now!!
  15. Another question, I've seen on some adverts for bikes "500 cycle recharge". What does mean? Doe it mean you can recharge the battery 500 times then you need a new one? This is the one I was looking at. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyclamatic-Power-Plus-Electric-Bike/dp/B00472NWCA
  16. Hi, I have decided to get rid of our little run around car as it's costing too much to run now it's old so going to buy an electric bike. We have another car I can use if it's raining so would robably use the bike about 3 times a week on average throughout the year. I want one with a throttle and pedal assist. I'm looking to buy a cheap one to start with (I know you only get what you pay for) and seeing how I get on with it and then next year if I'm still using it regularly I will upgrade and sell the cheap one. I have cycled to work to test out the route last week on my normal bike and I managed it OK but was a bit slow. I only have 30 minutes between finishing work and collecting my daughter from nursery so I need to be quicker hence the main reason for buying an electric bike as I'm slow on the hills. So, I need to cycle 8 miles round trip daily with only a few hills and all mainly cycle paths. I would use the throttle on only short 2 hills on the way there and 2 longer hills hills on the way back. Pedal assist would be used rarely but I would still like the bike to have it. I also need to be able to fit a child seat to the back (if that's impossible I can live without it). I definitely want a throttle as I hate going up hills with a passion. I've seen a £500 bike (cyclamatic) and thought that looked like it had what I wanted but is it absolutely rubbish?? If I have to charge it every other day it's not a problem as it will still be cheaper than putting petrol in a car. (I could charge it at work which wouldn't cost me a penny then! ) Also is something changing with the law in the UK that means a throttle bike will not be legal? I don't want to buy one then find I can't use it in a few months time! Thanks for any advice.
