  1. Hi everyone I’ve got a kalkhoff pro connect 2008 and had the battery recelled at Jimmys last year. Everything seemed great when received. But recently it seems to have lost a bit of power. I’ve done a few checks and after a full charge it was outputting 29V which Jimmy said was perfect. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
  2. Thanks for your reply Trood. Sorry about my late reply but I have been away for 2 weeks. I will try Blazing Saddles
  3. I’ve just resurrected my Pro Connect 2008 successfully but on a long run I discovered that I had lost the cover that goes over the motor. It’s held on by double sided adhesive which looks like it had dried out - after only 14 years!! My question is where could I possibly get another one from or has anyone got an old model and using it for spares? Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks
  4. I'm with you Tillson I've cycled for 4 years without an accident...but...it only takes one and I'm wearing my helmet just in case!!
  5. Hi Overlander. I think the Shimano wheel would do the job fine. Thanks again for all your information it is very much appreciated. Frank
  6. Hi Overlander I have done approx 8,000 miles on this front wheel. I commute daily to work most days weather permitting. So what would be your recommendation? Thanks again
  7. Thanks Overlander for that information, its much appreciated.
  8. Thanks Flecc. I will look into that.
  9. Hi Flecc Thanks for your reply, what would you suggest as a replacement (same spec, quality, etc). Frank
  10. Thanks Overlander I will have a look at that one.
  11. Hi Overlander Thanks for your reply. I might have to go to a new wheel, but as the old one looks quite hi-spec I thought it would be cheaper (if I could find one), to just go for a rim. Frank
  12. Hi Frank I don't know whether this would work, it may look a bit strange though. Frank
  13. Would any of you knowledgeable peeps out there know where I could source a 16 hole rim for the Pro-connect. As some of you 'older' members will remember that the Pro-connect came with 16 spoke wheels originally, so as the rim is wearing on my front wheel I was wondering if anybody had sourced one. I have rang 50cycles and they say that Derby Cycles don't make them any more. So I'm at a loss at the moment, thinking that I might have to buy a new wheel. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Frank
  14. Its got to be the Pro Connect, its light, looks good, never fails on hills and does hundreds of miles to the gallon!!! Oh yes and very reliable. Frank
  15. I thought it might be useful to any newbies out there who may be deciding which electric bike to buy, to write of my experiences since buying my Pro-Connect 15 months ago. It would also be nice to swap thoughts and opinions of any other Kalkhoff owner who (like myself) waited a long time to own one of these bikes. Just for the record I am 6ft and weigh 11 stone. Date Bought: August '08 (after a long wait!). Mileage: 3,500 miles approx. I cycle to work most days 14 mile round trip. Upgrades: As the lights on the bike are poor and the rear light only worked when it was sunny! I purchased a front and rear light from Halfords. The front one was a 'bikehut' rechargeable one and the rear was a 'bargain basket' one for a fiver! I needed reliable ones as I work double day shift and cycle often in the dark. After 5 months I fitted a 18T sprocket as the gearing on the bike is very low. This made it more like a normal bike where you can pedal even when you go downhill without loosing your shoes! I have not bought anything else for the bike (other than 2 sets of brake blocks), all parts are still original parts including tyres, (which are Schwalbe Marathon Racers). I have had 3 punctures since starting to ride to work which is fairly lucky as my route uses tracks and paths as well as the road. The paths seem the worst with lots of glass frequently strewn across. Battery: No problems with it, although I only do 14 miles I charge it up after every trip. I haven't noticed any deterioration in it over the 15 months (only in the winter when its very cold). Problems: After a month of ownership the chain jumped off the cog a few times, but on advice from the forum it pointed to the chain tensioner arm needing some lubricating. Never had any bother since. Like a few people on the forum I had to tighten the bolts on the motor. After about 10 months I had a problem with the hub gears. When freewheeling the chain seemed as it it wanted to jump the cogs and making a very strange noise. After contacting 50cycles the wheel was replaced under the 2 year guarantee. The solid suspension on the Pro-Connect takes a bit of getting used to, but a bit of padding in ya pants will help a lot! Advantages: The bike is light enough to pedal without using the motor (if you are feeling healthy or the motor breaks down!). In my experience the bike is a very reliable commuter bike which laughs at hills (and there are a few steep ones where I live). If you are wanting to substitute the car for work I reckon you couldn't get any better. Well yes there are some savings as well: Petrol £40 a month. Gym fees: £20 a month. A lot healthier lifestyle: Priceless! Well there you go hope it helps to make your mind up. Come on Kalkhoff owners lets here from you!! Frank
  16. I pedal 70 miles per week to and from work on my Pro Connect in all weathers except 6 inches of snow:D then I take the car
  17. Hi Bob How long have you owned the bike, your mileage sounds quite high. What kind of suspension have you got, my bones are nearly getting used to it now:) Frank
  18. For me its the Pro Connect, I've had it 5 months and done 1300 miles to and from work and its a pleasure to ride (bar the odd pothole!). It laughs at hills and for the moment I can't fault it.
  19. Thanks to everyone for your replies, I think I will go for the wired one. I'm off to write my letter to Santy:rolleyes:
  20. I am thinking about buying a cycle computer. If anybody has any views on Wire/Wireless ones, advantages/disadvantages I would appreciate their comments. I am looking for a fairly simple one, unlike the one that tells you how your hearts doing then makes the tea:rolleyes:
  21. Keeping warm I also cycle in all weathers and the clothing I bought from Aldi/Netto/Lidl have worked a treat. Keeps you warm, dry and happy;)
  22. I've had the Pro Connect for 3 months now and when I first got it the rear light wasn't working, I fiddled about with the wires and it came on. I commute every day to work and I have used the lights for about 2 months now (I work a late and early shift alternate weeks), and have had no bother with them at all. Maybe I'm the lucky one.
  23. I commute 14 miles round trip on my Pro Connect 5 days a week, so far in all weathers but looking at the weather this coming week - maybe not in the snow.
  24. I've had problems with my chain on my Pro-Connect, after some advice from the forum I've oiled the tensioner and fingers crossed no chain off yet!
  25. Thanks Flecc and James I will certainly have a look and give it a bit lubrication. Let you know the outcome.
