  1. I will disconnect it on my next outing thanks for the warning. I purchased the SO6PW kit + Speed sensor (£41) + spare parts (£9) + shipping DHL (£23) from BMSBATTERY + VAT (£15), total cost £88. The delivery was tracked and was fairly straightforward taking a week in total. The bafang 8fun front hub motor in a 26" wheel is from a previous kit that I purchased 4 years ago. The bike is a Carrera Vengence with a 16" frame (I am only 5' 6", 29" leg) I it got on sale from Halford last year for £220. I purchased a triangle bag for the controller and a toppeak MTX rack and bag for the batteries (£70). Installing the kit was straight forward, the motor fitted into the suntor forks without a problem, swapped the brake levers, fitted the throttle and lcd on the left, modified the pas to go on the opposite side to the chain ring, fitted the speed sensor and connected it all up. I think it's the easiest bike I have done so far. I have drilled the rack to take a 36 10ah bottle battery I purchased last year to go on another bike for £220 (it was advertised as being 33 cm long but was actually 43cm long so would not go in the frame) it looks like a jet rocket on the back when fitted. At the moment I have the MTX bag fitted to take the 3 Macallister 36v 4ah batteries I got from B&Q a few weeks ago for £90. On my first test ride I got 15 miles out of a single macallister 36v 4ah battery which is what I was expecting the bike was set to level 5 pas and limited to 15mph. I had done 19 mile on my nano brompton on the same battery. For approx £600 total cost I am very happy with the bike. It will be a backup for my son to get to work if his ebike has a fault and for my general use. I would like to try a rear hub or mid drive mountain bike to see how they compare with the view to do some off road forrest/mountain trails. I am not sure if I would be able to find a complete bike in a 16" frame size. So thats the next project.
  2. I have just been out on the bike. I left the link in on the connector as it came. The bike operated as expected on throttle and pas. Do you have to setup cruise control on the LCD as the LCD setup info does not mention cruise control only 6kph walk mode
  3. Just finished installing my 8fun kit with new lcd display and SO6PW controller onto a new bike and all is working well. The SO6PW controller has a 2 wire connector (blue and black wires) that are linked can anyone tell me what this connector is for?
  4. Purchased the SO6PW KIT from BMSBATTERY to day. I have decided to move the kit to a carrera bike I bought on sale last year a better donor bike, freeing my Trek for other duties. Moved the motor and battery over today ready for the SO6PW KIT to arrive so most of the hard work is done. Thanks for all your help.
  5. I was not sure about the SO6PW, but just read a reply from bmsbattery confirming it has the external speed sensor connector like the SO6P controller. I was also considering the lcd/KT36ZWS controller (which does not have an external speed sensor connector) from pandabikes hence my question. I like the SO6PW kit but have not purchased from China before so was weighing up all the options.
  6. My motor only has 3 wires green, blue, yellow.
  7. How do you add an external speed sensor if there is no connector on the controller to get around the freewheeling issue.
  8. That makes things easier. Are the in-line brake sensors reliable not used them before.
  9. I am trying to decide between the BMSBattery SO6PW kit which has reduced cabling but uses a pair of aluminium brakes or making a kit up around the standard SO6P controller which uses in-line brake sensors. I am not sure if the SO6PW controller has a connector for a speed sensor so I have emailed BMSB. Both work out at about £60 delivered. I was thinking of possibly buying 2 kits or some extra bits for spares to make the most of the delivery charge. From your experience when are you likely to be hit for import duty, is it about 20%?
  10. Sorry to confuse you but we are not comparing like with like, I have just been on BMSB myself. You are correct in saying the SOP6W kit is £62.43 delivered (£39.96 parts + £22.47 shipping) the £22.47 is there minimum shipping cost. The SO6PW kit includes the LCD display, Controller, PAS, Brakes, Throttle and waterproof 4 to 1 cable. The equivalent Panda ebay price is £110. The £69 I was quoted was for Controller and LCD display only. The BMSB price for these are £27.96 + £22.47 shipping = £50.43.
  11. I have not purchased from china before, what is the best delivery method and typical cost. I have just had a reply from Panda bikes and they have quoted me £69 for there kunteng controller and LCD.
  12. Thanks for your help. Just had a look on BMSbattery at the SO6P controller and S-LCD1 the pair will cost £27.96 plus delivery and import duty. I will probably need some other bits brake sensors and PAS as connectors are different so total is about £40 pus delivery and import duty. They also do a SO6PW water proof connector kit which includes the S-LCD1 and brakes, PAS, throttle with a neat cabling harness which looks nice for £39.96. They quote the the SO6P as 24v/36v does this mean it will handle either battery voltage as most controllers I have seen are battery specific. Do these controllers sense the speed from the motor signals.
  13. If I go for a LCD display I will need to get a new controller as well. Will most 36v, 15A brushless (no hall sensor) controllers work with my bafang 8Fun QSWXK motor or do they need to be programmed/matched up.
  14. Thanks for your prompt response and link I am looking for a 36v version. Is the 5 wire digital interface the latest standard? Is the 5 wire digital interface used by LCD Displays?
  15. Hi My LED Display on my Bafang 8Fun kit needs replacing. My kit is as follows: 1. Bafang 8Fun SWXK36V250W brushless motor, No Hall, in a 26” Wheel. 2. Controller for Brushless Motor LSW903-5-2. 36v Max Current 15A, Rated 7A, Low voltage Protection 29v, Throttle adjustment 1.2v – 4.4v 3. LED Display 790-36-1800. Functions: Power: On/off, Battery Level, Switch between PAS/Throttle, Mode: Low, Medium, High PAS. The LED Display has a 4 wire Connector (Red, Blue, Black, Green) I assume the are 36v, Lock(Power on/Off), Ground and Signal (not sure) respectively. The display is over 5 years old and I cannot find a replacement on the web. I have seen a similar 880 LED Display which has a 5 Wire connector (Red - 36v, Blue - Lock(power on/off), Black - Ground, Green TX, Yellow RX). Are the Tx and RX data lines? Is this a new standard interface? Do LCD displays use the same interface? So I assume I will need to buy a Display and Controller pair. Can anyone recommend suitable replacements to drive my bafang 8fun brushless no hall motor? Do all no hall brushless controllers have a standard 3 wire interface to the motor? I have seen an 880 LED display or LCD Display with a Kunteng KT36ZWS-FZ15E controller for sale on ebay by Panda Bikes ltd would these be suitable replacements to get my bike up and running again? Tom
