  1. Im not sure tbh this is wot i bought. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/351245268935
  2. Hi people. Im a bit stuck with a project im working on. I have a speed controller im using to control a 24v dc motor, it had a built in potentiometer that i have unsoldered and replaced with wires. I want to attach a thumb or handgrip throttle but i dont think these have potentiometers in them and need a 5v supply is that correct? I cannot supply a voltage to the throttle so trying to find something i can use instead?
  3. yeah I am gojng to strip it down, trying to keep a couple of spares too for any future problems
  4. Temporary wired in a push button switch on handlebars to get through next couple of days. eBay guy is sure throttle will work so ordered one and see how that goes. Thanks everyone for help and advice
  5. Have had a play. And managed to get motor working, I have to turn key on then connect wires else it goes into diagnostic mode! Will keep my hand near ignition goin home ready to shut off! Found a throttle on eBay just waiting reply from seller to see if its compatible. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=321105240553&index=3&nav=SEARCH&nid=09476143698 Or when I get home I might dismantle mine and see if I can get a new potentiometer from maplin. Quite handy with a soldering iron!! My other toys thought if share http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7rQ-rcU0c-k&feature=plcp
  6. Ok cheers no tools at work or multimeter so I think it will be time for eeny meeny miny mo!!
  7. Just broke down on way to work. Pull throttle no power to motor just led's on. Think it is the throttle as when I pull throttle and switch on it won't do diagnostic check. Goin to bridge connector plug on throttle on break later and see if motor kicks in. Their are 3 wires yellow, red and green. Anyone know which I bridge? Thanks
  8. The problem their is that when you switch bike on and its on its stand, the wheel doesn't turn slowly/motor pulsig until after you pulled back throttle and let it go.
  9. Ok so I tried running bike on stand with motor only or pedal assist and it isn't cutting out? In the meantime I noticed when its off the ground in motor only and you pull back throttle and close, when the wheel has slowed down to nearly a stop the motor is almost pulsing and keeping the wheel slowly turning is this normal. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=youtube_gdata_player&v=-lWso_u2C1Y&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D-lWso_u2C1Y%26feature%3Dyoutube_gdata_player
  10. Hi thanks all, it cuts out at any speed. It is getting worse I'm sure so hopefully it will make it a bit easier to diagnose. It's fault is their in pedal assist and motor only. I have just checked connections on battery compartment and all seem tight and ok. It is currently on charge then I am goin to run bike off the ground and see if it still does it?
  11. Be a bit lost without bike, I live 9 miles from work, I work nites too! No buses, couldn't afford taxis. Cannot drive now due to medical reasons, got a young baby so can't rely on wife to ferry me round. All good fun! Can't complain though when the bike goes wrong I owe alot to this bike!
  12. It's an original untampered with bike for sure. The guy I had it off used it about 3 times. It still had the bobbly bits on tyres. The pic I attached before was how I got it like brand new. I have 3 wires coming out speed controller. 1 to motor, 1 to pedal sensor and 1 to throttle. Their are no additional holes in bottom of controller where any other wires can go in. The cables from brake levers on handle bars are deffo just cables no wiring. I also read about some have motion sensors on back wheel? But I can't see that on mine either
  13. Hi appreciating the advice. It certainly played up more on way to work tonite. Then it can be fine for 10mins. I will check all connections tomorrow, if I have a battery terminal issue would the led lights not go off intermittently? I am keen to strip motor and do a regrease and inspection but even though I am competent not sure how to dismantle it.
  14. They just have a cable wrapped in a white protective plastic,I followed the cable and it just goes to brakes, no wires going off to controller. Back to work tonight for 4 nites so the next 80 miles could be fun!
  15. Ok thanks, I wondered throttle possibly? The only thing I have found is that when you pull break levers (either) should the motor cut out? As it doesn't
  16. Hi thanks for advice, when the motor cuts in and out the led lights do not go off. they go from say half to full when motor cuts out , then back to half when motor kicks back in. This motor cutting in and out happens in a split second and can do it about 3 times in one minute. Then it can be fine for 5 mins and do it again. When I purposely go over bumps it doesn't make the bike do it, it can do it on smooth Tarmac. I have charged batteries and the total voltage was 40.2. Battery 1 is 13.2v Battery 2 is 13.3v Battery 3 is 13.3v Like I say they are Lucas 12v 12ah approx 4-5 months old and have been recharged around 120 to 140 times estimated
  17. Thanks for that, I will test each battery tomorrow. It starts cutting out even when batteries are fresh off charge.
  18. Yeah I believe it's same motor, my journey home is 9 miles with some hills and I pedal assist all the way home and its pretty flat by the time I get their! The batteries are Lucas 12ah and only 4 months old. But they do get charged 10 times a week! My fault is doin it with fully charged batteries which register 40.05v fully charged My bike http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr1/ady347/image-14.jpg
  19. Hi, I have a very intermittent problem starting with my bike. when riding on motor only or pedal assist the motor is cutting out and straight back in again, it does it a couple of times every few minutes. The battery indicator goes back up to full briefly when motor cuts out. I have done a diagnostic check but none the wiser at the minute. I may have to wait until it fails completely before I can investigate further. All I have done is check battery voltage and it seems fine. Just wondered is their any common faults with these bikes. It's a 24 speed (called a euro I think? The model that has the sla batteries fitted between your legs. unfortunately without this bike I would have no transport so I'm hoping it is not going to be anything too serious
  20. Thanks for advice I will do some research on these.
  21. I seem to have had a couple of close calls lately due to idiot drivers from the same taxi firm (mostly foreign drivers relying on sat navs!) I am after advice on a cheap bike video camera. What I need is One that works at night with good street lighting on journey. Helmet and handlebar mounted preferred. To last my daily journey of 1hr 20mins after my round trip I want to easily delete footage if no incidents. I have no knowledge of this area, just something cheap, basic and will give good enough video quality. Thanks
  22. I decided to buy a second hand powabyke euro 24 speed for £250 to see if it was something I really wanted, that was 6 months/2500 miles ago, and all I have done is replace batteries when I first bought it and replaced 4 sets of brakes (they eat pads!) and it's still goin strong so sticking with it. I knew I could get my money back on the purchase if it wasn't for me. Only thing I hate about my bike is potholes rattle through to my bones and the sla batteries are heavy! I ride a 20 mile round trip 5 nites a week (work 10pm till 5am) and except for 1 nite when I took the car I have rode my bike in snow, tempatures well into the minus high winds and rain lol.
  23. Thanks, Batteries are about 4 months old and get charged often
  24. Hi charged my 3 12v sla on bike, tested and their reading 40.2v. Does this spud about right for fully charged
  25. Sorted cheers
