Oh I use regen braking on the back, its stops me seriously fast but is way too agressive for most applications so I only use it when I need to. Anyway heres some pics of the bike. Q

Hi sorry wasn't aware of the standard being on the flat, I can definitely achieve 30mph on the flat maybe even 32/33 with a full charge and yes it was down hill that I hit 37mph, again I think with a full charge I could hit 40mph, problem is I can only pedal up to maybe 33 before I run out of gearing, this I also hope to sort with my improvement build. Once I upgrade my batteries who knows what I could achieve. Hope to record some video footage of my ride to work soon.

Ok photos to follow but specs for the moment are: Standard GT chucker MTB Crystalyte HS3540 rear hub motor 72v 100A capable Lyen controller 48v (58.4v) lifepo4 16s headway cells (In a rear motorcycle box for the moment) Cruise control, cycle analyst, twist throttle Max speed so far 37mph, 30mph on flat, 20mph general cruise speed to prolong battery life/range It makes for a very enjoyable little electric cruiser, increasing battery voltage will allow me to increase my cruising speed to around 30mph with a bit of luck.

Hi all, Just thought I would share my happiness at reaching my first 500 miles on my homebuilt electric bike, I have been commuting to work almost every day since finishing it and I don't plan to look back, in fact I'm already planning my next build which will include improvements such as full suspension and a lower C of G for my battery pack. I also intend to upgrade to 60v nominal. I'm really enjoying my 25 mile round trips to work and back, obviously the weather is making it more of a pleasure but riding in the rain hasn't put me off yet, winter might be a different story though! Thanks for the inspiration. Q

I'm also far too old to be a yob but the occasional wheelie wont hurt anyone! If it does turn out to be dangerous to ride then I will have to move to a new frame sooner than expected, but I've ridden some insane bucking bronco motorcycles in my time, so I can take a fair amount of instability before panic sets in lol

It should come out with the reverse drill bit but worse case it will have to be drilled oversize and a either a thread insert kit used or tapped to the next size up. Maybe higher tensile strength bolts could be used with thread lock?

Yes it will be trial and error for the first build, I have a CA and a fully programmable controller so I will be able to tame the power to suit, plus I wont be able to use full power if I expect any kind of useable range from the limited battery capacity I can carry, your vision of me flipping over the back of the bike or constantly loosing the front end and crashing may well be a little over exaggerated! However we will see!

Hi thanks for the advice, I'm initially looking to run 48v 15ah, I'm not sure if I will get enough range from this but its a good place to start, I would love to run 72v 20ah eventually but I need a frame that can store the batteries much lower, this is why I'm toying with the idea of building my own bespoke frame designed to accommodate all the power I need.

Although I agree with the above, I think that if Police officers, the so called trusted officers that uphold our laws decide they can behave in any manner they wish, because after all they ARE the law, then filming them and displaying it to the tax paying public and hopefully they're superiors, may not be a bad idea if it makes them think twice next time!

I cant wait to finish my build, I was also toying with the idea of selling my motorbike to fund a nice battery pack, rather than having to settle for what I can afford, but having not ridden an ebike yet I'm a little apprehensive. I might just slap a couple of SLA batteries on the back just to try it out!

Exactly what I was thinking because my controller is fully adjustable including the regen effectiveness and regen voltage. Paul
