  1. What a shame you all missed the point of the thread ....Guy wants to get around, can't pedal a bike for health reasons, wants a scooter instead. And all he asked you was which one was best. So to answer the original question, it's an ePed ( or IPed ) DON'T bother with the rest, Dayun weigh a ton, look like a childs toy and have SLA batteries, All Seasons ditto and import dried flowers for goodness sake, and the same goes for the rest IMHO. I've had an iPed S for about 2 years, it's done about 10,000 miles almost without fault. It's not a 10K Brammo or Zero or a 4K Haibike so has had the odd minor niggle, but this has always been sorted even after the warranty expired. It'll climb any hill I throw at it ( yes slowly ) and I've had 50 miles from a charge without ever having to pedal. I've been stopped a few times, but when I produce the CE or ROHS certificate that's supplied with the bike the police seem perfectly happy. I think it's all about what you need and why, if you want a little help whilst exercising, buy a bike. If ( like me ) you struggle to exercise at all, buy a scooter. And whatever opinions you might read on hear say, my elect4ic scooter has changed my life.
  2. It's fair to say that with the sort of utter rubbish All Seasons, Dayun and eRider have been churning out, the electric pedal scooter has had some pretty bad press and deservedly so. But things have changed, the iPed S and iPed C will easily climb 1:5 gradients with a 12st rider without the need to pedal assist and have ranges in excess of 45 miles. The iPed L about 1:7 and a range of around 25 miles. All bikes are far superior in terms of build quality and spec and many riders of the S and L models are up around the 6000 mile mark without issue having often used their machines as their sole means of transport, which as you say " speaks volumes "
  3. I once knew a Caroline, she was utterly captivating....Don't seem to remember her selling hideous electric monkey bike scooter moped things though oddly....
  4. Oh god....I fear my retinas have just disintegrated, clearly a blessing In terms of the scooter I ride, in actual fact it is completely legal. It is classed as EPAC tandem ( rear foot pegs ) is just under 60Kg's, has a motor rated at 250W, has pedal assist mode and in restricted mode is limited to 15mph. However, for me at least I think these are somewhat worrying times. I believe somebody posted earlier that most of the EPAC's around are technically illegal, and whilst this might well be the case, the police and authorities are for once cutting us a little slack. But will they continue to do so when faced with people riding uninsured, unregistered and untaxed 50mph EPAC's and EPAC scooters? Somehow I doubt it! I think it simply boils down to not taking the proverbial. Firstly wear a helmet, sure you don't have to, and it is liberating to feel the wind in hair, but after a couple of days of being shouted at and stopped every 5 minutes, it made sense...And after all you do want your face to look nice on the big day once the Scania has rearranged your internal organs surely? Secondly, of course it's nice ( and a whole lot safer ) to gain another 5mph or so and I know from experience that even the strictest of traffic cops won't bother to worry you ( not dissimilar to our unofficial 85 - 90mph motorway speed limit ) , but start Stealth Bombering down a dual carriage way at 50mph and questions WILL be asked....And I imagine that when they get asked often enough, we'll all be slapping number plates on the back of our bikes and jumping through various hoops to ride them....Which for me at least, completely defeats the object. In terms of my own upgrades, having traveled 45 miles yesterday on a single charge through some of the steepest terrain in the country without the need for a single pedal stroke on a day where Martians would be remarking it was a little on warm side, d'you know what? I'm not going to bother. I'm going to just enjoy the feeling of traveling silently and cheaply through sunny Dartmoor without leaving more than the shallowest of carbon footprints....Oh, and also avoid blowing myself up! Oh and btw, I'm not selling these yet so didn't feel the need to declare, but there is a strong possibility I might if there's enough interest and I can cover all the legal angles? As previously mentioned, this is a nice bubble and last thing I would want to do is aid it bursting
  5. Hi all, I'm quite new to all this but have absolutely fallen in love with travelling in excess of 50 miles on a few pence without leaving a trail of black smoke in my wake! Now I do of course realise that many of you hold a pretty dim view of electric pedal assisted scooters, but for me at least having owned many a Vespa in my now distant youth, and buzzed lazily around many a foreign Mediterranean on them, I think they are an absolutely fantastic idea....Sadly rather poorly executed! Having messed around with various hub motors and realising their limitations within this application ( lack of torque, inability to pedal without resembling a mature silver back gorilla on a childs bicycle etc ) I decided to import one from china it uses a 250W geared motor with a planetary gearbox running 48V LiPO4 and the results are fantastic, essentially you can travel in excess of 50 miles on one charge, and it will tackle 1:5 inclines without any noticeable decrease in momentum...Amazing stuff I'm sure you'll agree? However, I use mine for commuting around the busy high hedged windy A roads in Devon, where massive lorries and bonus crazed white van men round hairpin corners without any visibility or seconds thought as to what might be around them. So, my question is; working within the parameters of what I have ( geared motor, fixed to a planetary gearbox, 48V LiPO4 ) is there anything I can do in the interest of seeing my next birthday ( it's a big one btw ) without " wearing " a Scania badge on my back? I'm not looking for Alien Ocean wheel spinning mountain bike performance, nor am i looking to enjoy the experience for a nannosecond...Just an additional 5mph to keep up with the traffic flow would be great :-)
