  1. I went to Halfords this afternoon and had a shot of the voodoo hardtail Bizango. Had lots of fun bombing around the car park outside. Does anyone know what wattage the motor is? It didn't feel like it had a huge amount of power? Is it possible to remove the 17mph limit? Im trying to decide between a Bafang bbshd kit (1000W) and a Voodoo bike like this from Halfords if and when they come back on sale. The Bafang will have more power and speed but the voodoo bikes look better integrated and useable. There is something to be said for a e bike that aint too powerful so you actually have to do some work.
  2. This is an advert for 1 alien e bike in parts. Battery is knackered looking for offers.
  3. Thanks D8veh, can I just put a bulb across a cell without disconnecting all the metal tabs that link the cells in series? I have just read another thread on a similer topic and you suggested using a 5v phone charger to bring up the weaker cells. Should I connect positive to positive with the charger and battery. I have some photos of the cells I will post tomorrow. They are about an inch thick with a small vent near the poles. The terminals are rusty and the battery weather proofing seal looks like it may be bust. I guess some water may have made its way in.
  4. I have one bought it for £200 second hand. The motor is a gem fast and efficient. My battery is good for 2 miles so ready for a change. The bike components and frame are very cheap and surprisingly poor for a £1100 bike. I would value the bike itself at £150. That being said it is fairly serviceable and when setup quite nice to ride. A few years ago they had a rep for being the best value bike out there and there are plenty of good reviews.
  5. I am getting about 2 miles or so range out of my alien with the current battery. I am the third owner and don't know the bikes history. I decided to open the battery pack today after it had been discharging on the shelf for a couple of months here are the voltage readings on the 37v 10 cell pack Pre-charging 4.04 3.60 4.01 4.02 3.78 4.02 4.02 3.96 3.93 2.99 Post charge 4.18 3.84 4.08 4.12 3.88 4.10 4.13 4.00 4.00 3.70 So it looks like at least 3 cells are sitting at a much lower voltage than the rest of the pack. Is there anything I can do to help bring them back into balance. I noticed as it was charging the weak cell were taking a consistant charge and rising steady until the charger turned green and stopped the charge. I have always turned the charger off within an hour of it turning green. I heard leaving it on over night can help balance the pack? Cheers Gav
  6. Just scared myself by typing "lipo fire" into youtube. Its like having a bomb between your legs. Are lipos really only likely to explode when on charge?
  7. Hi I am looking for a new battery for my ebike. I would like to try Lipo batteries from hobby king I have picked out a couple of batteries and a charger from hobby king and was wondering if someone who knows about lipo could look over my selection and tell me where im may be going wrong. Batteries? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=32216 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=34830 These batteries are 5 cell 18.5v so I would need 2 packs to give me 37v for the bike. Each pack is 8000mah so 2 packs together at 37v should hopefully still give me a 8AH 37v battery for 100-120 pounds. Just two packs should mean easy charging, wire managment and battery changes Charger? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__20613__Turnigy_MEGA_400Wx2_Battery_Charger_Discharger_800W_.html Many thanks Gavin
  8. I have an Alien Aurora that i am looking to sell or swap for a standard non electric hybrid or road bike. The bike is about 3-4 years old ill need to check tomorrow, it has been completely stripped down and all working parts are now on a donor bike which is also included. You can build the alien back up as it was or use the donor bike like I intended to do. Donor bike is an Identiti dr jekyll google it for more details but it is a high quaility jump bike running on 26 inch hybrid wheels. The bike cost about £1500 new and has some nice parts like xtr change gear and Hope brakes. To complete it would need a little tidy up and a new battery my plan was to use a lipo battery set. It comes with a battery but its only good for 2-3miles good enough for a test ride. If you would like any more details please ask. Ideally I would like £400 for eveything or £200 for just the alien in bits
  9. I am in the process of transfering parts of my auora alien bike onto my old jump bike. The battery is totally shot, it will give about 2 miles in assit, but it still puts a smile on my face with the amount of power it has. So im looking at a new battery or try to recondition the old one if thats possible. I have been looking in to Lipos of hobby king but wondered if anyone else has any suggestions as to the best battery setup for my bike. Also Is it worth increasing the voltage for a bit more speed and tourqe? Will the controller and motor handle it? Many thanks Gav
  10. Hi I am new to pedelecs, I just bought a second hand alien auroa for £210. I thought the battery was ok but I took it for a test ride last night and managed about 1 mile on high power. I think the bike has been sitting for a while and the battery is prob older than it should be. So my options are sell the bike as it is to someone looking for a project, or take it on as a project myself. I am quite keen to try some Lipo batterys from hobby king, maybe push the voltage up to 48V. Has anyone got an auora and had success making their own battery packs? I like the idea of being able to tweak the battery packs and fix them if something goes wrong rather than dumping money into a BMS Battery pack that will start degrading as soon as I buy it. If lipos degrade or burnup, short then still have the chargers and harnesses and it should just be a case of buying new cells. If anyone is intrested in buying this project bike I am based in central scotland. I would like close to getting my money back on the bike if possible. Cheers Gav
