1. Alex thanks for the great info once again. will certainly look into lipos and from what i have read the latest lipos are a bit safer. steep learning curves.
2. bms say they cant ship batteries and will come back to me with an answer next week. ive asked em3ev. still waiting what about 3 x sla 12v 18 amps in series. will weigh 18kg and give 36v 18 amps. way too heavy?????? saw a youtube video how to do it. more a stopgap until a lithium can be sourced reasonably.
3. Hi Frank, thanks for the heads up. Em3vs actually show fedex battery shipping as the only option for buying a battery, bms don't mention anything but i had a problem with a £800 order this week and they refunded me immediately.
4. thanks alex most informative i think the cst bms kit wins. its cassette as opposed to freewheel and its cheaper. i had no idea the cst was geared which apparently is much better for riding without power. thanks again
5. Hi All Anyone got any experience of EM3EV they seem to have some good kit, I like their triangle battery pack and bag which makes a lot of sense rather than rear mounted. Would a 48v 20ah shrink wrap from BMS fit in the Em3ev or Falcon triangle bag by any chance as they have only 16 amp max. they seem to explain things alot better to us newbies rather than BMS but not sure if their kit is as good. Also is a 500w motor the nominal power and will increase up to 1000+ when required, is that how it works??? what connectors should one get for building a kit, will i need bullets, push fits, anderson or do they all come with the kit. thanks for any info.
6. anyone got any pics of the torque arms fitted so can see what you mean. i have all the tools as i work on old motorcycles so should be able to work it out from some pics. i bought a set of torque arms off bms. do they just tie to the frame to stop the motor moving??
7. Hi D8veh, many thanks for all the info, So standard washers will be M12 and the specials will be m12 with a 20mm outside diameter, have i got that right?? can't see any one ebay at the mo but i found washers M12 x 20mm x 2mm thick http://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/A2_Washer_M12.html, will they do. I presume the anti rotation washers will come with the wheel?? will be great to have everything ready for when it arrives. i have everything else. I have V brakes at the moment, Alex showed me a universal disc mount for my frame, will see how it goes as the v brakes are good, i've never used discs on a bicycle. So presumably if i have no disc then i just need the special washers as there is no disc to line up but will get spare washers to make sure. I have bought the spoke key and can dish it if need be. much appreciated. Will let you know when i have all the bits and i'm sitting there scratching my head. thanks mal
8. everything i need Hi, i'm now waiting for my kit to arrive in anticipation, however from what i have read i will need extra spacers, washers etc and other bits and pieces to finish off the installation, Can anyone recommend what and where i can buy in terms of small bit and pieces that i may or may not need but will come in very handy to have when the kit arrives to save faffing about when i want to get out and ride!!! forewarned is forearmed so to speak. thanks
9. Hi D8veh, yes it was a question, thanks i will make sure i get the 48v lcd, much appreciated. regards mal.
10. Hi Alex, yep that would sort my disc issue at the back, great stuff, will do that instead. One thing i'm sure we covered but can't find the thread, I bought the CST bafang 36V rear wheel and there is no problem running it at 48V with the s12p controller, Thats it. thanks. mal.
11. frame Hi Alex, my frame is an alloy specialised and is a good few years old, i was looking at changing it to a steel frame purely for strength and durability with the extra 15+kg on the back. I have bought the torque arms so will give the alloy frame a go. a new frame would have rear disc mounts which mine does'nt have.
12. Ok will order one. thanks
13. torque and drop outs could anyone advise the best type of dropout for the rear cst motor if i was to change my frame, my current frame has verticle drops and i'm looking at replacing with either of the 2 in the picture, the horizontal slide in dropouts seem better to me with regards to torque if the wheel was to slip and easier to adjust, is that correct! thanks
14. Alex, Good thinking!!! However I have changed my order 4 times now, sent 3 payments so i'm concerned about changing it again. looking at the chargers, the 48v 20ah comes with a 240watt charger, can i get one in the uk or should i get one for 30 bucks and chance changing my order again!!!!! would the 400W be a much quicker charger?? thanks alex. mal
15. alex, had a feeling that might be the case. cheers for the advice.
16. hi d8veh when you say get the smaller battery do you mean the 48v15 or the 36v15 or 20a. i agree the bike should be pleasant to ride. ive ordered the 48v 20 which is only 1 kg heavier than the 48v 15 does the wrapped battery fit onto the rack. it seems unfinished like it needs to go in something. What carrier can fit so close to the saddle. ive seen seatpost racks but weight is very limited. where would the controller fit. the 48v 15a seems to slot into the rack supplied and is in a case and the controller can fit in the case i think. who sells battery bags. cant find them on bms. anyone ever used a seatpost rack, they say weight limit 10kg which would take the 7kg battery.
17. Hi yes i was a bit concerned about the 7kg weight, is there a central mount or bag i could use or is it too heavy for that? Charging at work next to a plug is no problem as i have a warehouse with easy access to plug sockets, so would'nt remove at work or at home. i don't have suspension but am a bit concerned about the extra weight and the weight of the motor and my 90kg all on the back wheel. I've changed my order 3 times now, so not sure what the hell i will end up receiving and hope my pigeon english will have explained well enough to translate into chinese. :o
18. d8veh, Alex, you guys are great, Answers at 1.30 in the morning, 24hour technical help Brilliant. The s12p says for 750Watt motor which is why I didn't look at it. But as you both advise that model then i'll get the s12p and the s12s and try them both. D8veh, you say the 48w 20ah is 30a continuous, so their website info is wrong or is my lack of knowledge confusing me???. their website shows the 48v 20ah to be 15a continuous discharge and the 48v 15ah high c to be 30a and that's the same with the 36v also which is why I went for the high C option 1. 1Pcs 48V20Ah Li-Ion NiCoMn shrink tube electric bicycle battery pack. Included 13s polymer cells, 1pcs 15A continuous discharge current smart BMS. 1. 1Pcs 48V15Ah Li-Ion NiCoMn Aluminum Alloy shell 07-case ebike battery pack. Included 13s polymer cells, 1pcs 30A continuous discharge current smart BMS for the extra few dollars i'm going for the 48v 20ah, so hopefully will have plenty in reserve and with the 2 controllers can decide which is better for me. much appreciated.
19. d8veh so the 500 w cst will run 36 or 48w on the same controller. my 15 mile journey will be 8 minutes less with the 48v so im happy with 22mph 36v will the 36 v 15ah high c have a better range than the 36v 20ah or will it deplete quicker?? the 20 ah has a 15a continuous the 15ah has 30a continuous.
20. hi, d8veh, Alex, I think I would like to change my order to the cst 500w 36 volt wheel as I have the cassette on my bike with 12T top gear which should be ok and keep my 9 speed. I'm confused now as it says 36V but can this be run at 48V as I have order the 48V battery Also does it matter if I get the s12p or S12s, will this wheel will have hall sensors? I still don't understand about hall sensors and If I need them. Hopefully Bms will understand what I want and not end up with a kit that is a mish mash of parts that wont work together, many thanks.
21. hi d8veh i assumed if i order the kit they will send what I need for the kit i did order the speed sensor. i will check what controller and pay difference. will order spoke key. bit confused about cassette over freewheel i can prob put a 53 tooth ring on but is the problem the 14 smallest sprocket on a freewheel the smallest on my cassette is 12 or 13 i think. Hall sensors. will they be in the kit and do i need them still learning about this bit. many thanks for all your advice.
22. alex d8veh sorry didnt make it clear i ordered 48v 328rpm rear bpm kit with freewheel lcd disp. hwbs and torque arms. extra thumb throttle. not sure if it has hall sensors or if i need them should i order them with the extra connectors as recommended??? the battery is their li- ion 48v 15ah high c rate and my main concern was will it be powerful enough for my 15 mile each way journey with hills. this was my main concern!! and it seems it will thanks to d8veh. and i have no probs charging at work. as i presumed the controller will be suitable as its part of the kit but wasnt sure what to expect. im sure there will be some fitting issues to solve and look forward to sharing with you all shortly many thanks
23. Hi all, I have just bought a 500w bafang with a 48v 15ah high C rate li-on battery, my journey is 15 miles each way and i can charge at work, there are a few big hills each way but i will be pedaling with the motor. Having no experience of any of this I would just like to know if this is suitable. Will this be ok or do i need more amps. I'm hoping bms will provide the correct controller for the battery and kit that i have ordered or should i specify any particular controller. Thanks for any help or info.
24. of course you are right, 25% for duty and Vat. thanks for all your info. perhaps a uk kit might be a better bet, many thanks.
25. D8veh Thanks, great advice, will get torque arms and inline brake sensors. presumably i only need the lcd and speed sensor if i want a speedo otherwise the led throttle would suffice or is the lcd very good? Also most of what i have read recommends to leave off the pedal sensor, do i need it???. the extra thumb throttle is sound advice. Lastly I have been reckoning import duties run about 10%, I have just been advised by averhamdave that its 25% which makes it much less of a deal. thanks
