  1. I live in Bristol so know about hills! I tried the ktm, very nice, but in the end bought kalkhoff pro connect, cheaper, nicer, better spec, great range, and boy does it climb. Cannot recommend highly enough.
  2. Actually I think I jumped in too early. Now I have looked in more detail at Strava I am not sure if I am that keen - it is all about being competitive! What I thought it was is a group to share routes, rides, perhaps even arrange meet ups. So I'll probably not pursue this, but we'll see. Name-wise, please call me Jay Jay.
  3. I have just bought a Pro Connect Alfine 8. I tried the Endeavour S10, and the Pro Connect 10. The Endeavour goes like a rocket but has a very limited range. It is also technically illegal on the road. The Pro Connect 10 derailleur gear changes are a bit clunky and tend to crunch from time to time. The Alfine is very smooth by contrast. The Pro Connects have an enormous range. I did 20 miles the other day on full power with lots of hills and only a small percentage of battery showing as used. In general terms the Pro Connect and the Endeavour are very similar, frame and spec wise, if you ignore the motor.
  4. I am for it. Anyone else in Bristol area?
  5. If you are going to spend £2k then look at the Kalkhoffs. I tried the KTM range and loved it, then afterwards I got to go on some Kalkhoffs and there's no comparison. Get a Pro Connect, it's absolutely superb and went up my 1 in 4 hill almost with no effort. The KTM also went up the same hill but took much more effort. The Impulse 2 motor with 17Ah 612Wh crank drive machines - really powerful and absolutely silent. I have now tried almost every bike available in UK at this price point now and have just bought a Pro Connect after many hours of test rides around hilly Bristol.
  6. A bit more techy, but with a completely offline mode and track recording for cyclists, OruxMaps will do the trick.
  7. Google Maps works really well. In addition I'd recommend OruxMaps and WikiLoc. All free of course.
  8. I just say "No, I'm having fun!", the insinuation being that they are not.
  9. Thanks for this. Very reassuring. And yes, I do "get your meaning" entirely!
  10. Given how new the Impulse 2 motor and that it is made by Kalkhoff themselves rather than a big motor manufacture (eg Bosch, Panasonic, Bafang) does anyone have any knowledge or experience of its reliability? I really like all the Kalkhoffs I have tried with this motor, more than any other bike. But I just have this niggling concern before I leap in and buy one.
  11. Please add me at BS1.
  12. Thanks to everyone who replied here. It has been extremely useful. I too am going off the Pulse now, it does feel overpriced and I have also heard some issues about quality/reliability. I will also consider the Oxygen and go test it this week, though on the face of it I think the Kalkhoff crank drive looks like it will handle the hills better and the over 600Wh battery deliver more range. I have also been told to look at the new Raleigh Motus, though it is not yet available. Kalkhoff claim their Impulse 2 system is much better than the new Bosch system but they would say that - I have no idea. I feel that if I am spending £2k I really need to make a good and considered decision. Once again, thanks for all your help.
  13. Thanks, but these don't look in anything like the same league. Sorry.
  14. The 10G XT looks a bit of a different bike to the Alfine. Derailleurs for a start and different handlebar style. I really liked the Alfine, will I like this too? When is your Bristol store opening so I can try it out?
  15. Thanks for the input but I am not hands-on enough to want to do home build.
  16. Thanks for that info. Looks interesting. That wasn't offered when I was in your shop in Hampton Wick yesterday, otherwise I would have tried it.
  17. I am in a dilemma and wonder if anyone can help. I live in hilly Bristol and also want a bike that will definitely do around 40 miles range without skimping on the PAS. I have tried and like both the Volt Pulse X and the Kalkhoff Pro Connect Impulse 8-G Alfine. But it is too close to call. I can't decide between them. Of course the Kalkhoff is crank and a slightly higher rated battery with a slightly larger range, but has no throttle, no disk brakes and I think is heavier. The Kalkoff has fully integrated lights but the Pulse has a much more informative LCD display. The Pulse has lock out suspension from the handlebars and 9 gears, while the Kalk has 8 gears and the lockout is down on the forks. Has anyone any experience of these bikes please? Or any others to recommend around this price (£2k). Many thanks.
