  1. Hi... I have on of the 8 gear Hub Pro Connects, it must be about 4 years old now and still going strong. At 3000 miles I replaced the whole chain set: 1) Chain Wheel, Motor Sprocket, Rear Sprocket and the Chain as they were worn. Now at 6000 miles they need replacing again. 50 Cycles stock everything except the 41 tooth chain when - which is quite specific to the panasonic motor bikes. I have phoned them and they said, that they have had some on order for 2 months but can't get stock. When I asked about back ordering they guy said he was very busy and I should phone back later. When I phoned back, he really could be arsed with my query.. .which is a shame because I have always found them helpful in the past and was considering a new bike from them in the near future. Anyone know where I can source this part as my bike is useless without it !! thanks
  2. Hi, Cycling to work today the rear mudguard sheared off on my pro connect. (its done near 4000 miles now so I am not complaining). However, after arriving at work with a very wet and muddy backside I would like to replace it asap. After having a quick look on wiggle.co.uk there seem to be a large number to choose from. Does anyone have any advice on a specific type to go for, or type to avoid. thanks!!!
  3. Rather like me then !!!! thanks for that info... I was panicking there !
  4. Hi, I have an 18 month old Pro Connect and the it is still doing me proud. This morning though the battery played up for no apparent reason. Here is what happened. About 2 weeks ago bike was used for the last time, as it was too icy and Christmas etc. The battery had 3 dots worth of charge in it. When I got home I forgot the charger, it was left at work. Put the battery on today and it was completely dead. Nothing in there. no dots showing up. Took battery to work, popped it on the charger, and immediately 3 dots came back up and battery seems all back to life. is there a technical explanation for this, or perhaps it just didn't want to get back to work !!
  5. Got the replacement cranks from Lloyd at 50cycles - brilliant guys... so quick and helpful on the phone!! Certainly no complaints from them at all!! However, replaced the left crank... can't get the right one off no matter how hard I try... but the left one still keeps working loose, it feels funny to pedal as well, like it is not straight... is there a knack to getting the crank on correctly, or should it just slot into place....? any advice gratefully received!!
  6. my mistake... yes it is indeed the whole crank that comes off with pedal still attached....
  7. Hi.. i wonder if anyone can help. I have had my Pro Connect for 18 months now and have ridden an excess of 2000 miles on it. Suddenly on Monday the kerbside pedal just fell off. The nut rolled off somewhere never to be found. I initially blamed myself for not checking the nuts recently. After a long walk home I bought a new set of nuts. PLaced them on and used a socket wrench to tighten nicely. About half way to work today it came loose again..... I tightened then after a few miles it was loose again. Am i doing something wrong here? I can't understand why this is suddenly happening. regards
  8. At the weekend I had a puncture in the rear wheel, as the innner tube was quite badly damaged I decided to replace it... This was straight forward. As the tensioner has been making a noise for a while now I decided, whilst i was covered in oil, to give it a good clean and lube it up. Result - nice quiet ride... brilliant I thought.... However, on the journey to work the next day the chain fell off twice..... both times under load whilst climbing a hill. Both times quite frightening as it sent me all over the road!! Until this point it had never happened before, so I am assuming it is something I have done. When i got to work... I checked the gears, they were out of adjustment a bit, so I aligned them again and I also loosened the tensioner to it sprung back more freely. Is there anything else i should check? regards Timelord
  9. 2 weeks after my last spoke breakage... I am still off the road. Had one replacement 36spoke wheel which had a faulty hub - would not change past 4th gear. No more replacments in stock... can not source a 260mm 13 gauage spoke from anywhere except 50cycles... They send out a tempory spoke, but I made a typo in my email request and put 240mm instead of 260..... so I got 240mm spoke... could kick myself. This is too much to bear from a 1500 bike. Don't get me wrong... I love riding it..... I now HATE driving... but for the want of a spoke... this really takes the piss.... But.... have to say 50cycles.. have all been brilliant with this sorting things out as quickly as they can.... all the problems have been with stock running out, royal mail and the post room at my work... I will reiterate... 50cycles have been more than accomodating with my frustrations... (sorry guys)
  10. The only number I can find is SG-s500. Also... I tried refitting my old wheel, and the hub still works fine on that.... just has broken spokes on it...
  11. Ok spend a few hours this morning again on the 36spoke wheel.. Taken it apart and reassembled for a fourth time... following full instructions... Gears 1-4 work fine under any load. Gears 5-8 engage and under really light load (me hand turning gently whilst upside down) work fine. If i hand turn harder, gears slip. I have adjusted the adjuster screw to move the yellow lines slightly.. doesn;t work Cable length is exactly 101mm as specified. Even when I manually move the gear cassette gently between gear positions, it never engages in gears 5-8. Conclusion.. Warrently wheel has a faulty hub. Will phone 50cycles Monday.. I now hate driving... so i hope this will be rectified quickly.
  12. You talk of never having a catastrophic failure. Spoke broke on my 24 spoke wheel last monday.... I was cycling on a flat cycle path at about 15mph. Wheel buckled and jammed into the brakes. My bike stopped dead and I cam off. Fortunately I was on a cycle path and not the road. I have just received my new 36 spoke wheel from 50cycles.... but the hub seems defective.,. only gears 1-4 work. Still tinkering with that one.
  13. Definitely in 4th gear and got the little yellow markers aligned.... I have tried it just off alignment in both ways. Gears work perfectly 1-4 Nothing works 5-8 I am not sure the length of the cable will make any difference as I have plenty of leeway either side of the yellow markers. I am beginning to think I have a faulty hub. Not happy !!!
  14. Hi.. .after numberous broken spokes on my 24 spoke rear wheel of my 57cm Pro Connect, 50cycles sent me a new 36spoke wheel under warrenty... thanks guys.... this was speedy! However.. on fitting it I had to remove the sprocket from my existing wheel and the gear fixings.... With help from previous forum posts on this forum, I have the wheel fully assembled and fitted to the bike... as suggested in the shimano tech docs and advise here. The new Alfine Gears seem very smoth at changing... up to a point... 5 upwards the minute I apply pressure to the pedding the gears slip in and out.... All gears are fully adjusted... yellow markers in the correct places etc.. As it stands the bike is still unridable... which is a shame cos I love my pro connect and now hate driving to work... any help on this little gear problem would be much appriciated... regards
  15. ..twice in 2 months.... and thus made invisible on the pitch black lanes in my area.... plus 2 spokes gone..... that certainly isn't as easy to fix... the bulbs should last MUCH longer than this.
  16. For the second time in the last 2 months the rear bulb on my pro connect has blown again. I really do not think they are fit for purpose. The bulbs are cheap.. only about 84p, but P&P on the last one was £5 (yes I know... I should have bought more !!!). ARe there any bulbs more hardwaring that would work, or is there a replacement light for the bike.... I like the idea of always having the lights powered from the battery? I have now invested in some supplimentry LED lights for my own saftey.. but I still want these lights to work.. as I believe they are quite expensive... What with my broken spoke issues and this light issues.. I am beginning to question the reliability of the Pro-Connect. In my years of cycling before I have never.. 1) had a broken spoke 2) have a blown light bulb. This is not what i would expect from a £1500 bike.
  17. what were your rear wheel problems? I bought the bike to save money and get fit..... if it takes a few weeks to fix thats £25 per week in fuel etc....
  18. Spokes What sizes of spokes do I need on the pro connect - how do I get my wheel built to tandem standard - I just attached a new spoke sent by 50cycles and tightened a bit... is this enough? regards
  19. Hi... about 4 weeks ago my pro connect suffered a broken spoke on the rear wheel (non chain side) . No idea how it happened - noticed when I got home. 50 cycles sent me 2 spares and i got it refitted and the wheel made true at a cycle shop, costing about £12. Now... once again I have had a second broken broke. Again on the rear wheel, again on the non chain side. This time I heared it go... I was simply riding on the flat and heard a crunch. Stopped to check and sure enough the spoke had sheard off at the hub. With the spare I refitted the new spoke, and after a bit of adjusting managed to make it true myself... My questions are:... 1) is this going to happen a lot. Never had a spoke go on a road bike before. 2) what are the various spoke sizes on the 57cm proconnect (i know the rear wheel at least has 2 different sizes). 3) Where can I get spares... i seem only to be able to buy boxes of 50 for about £50. 4) Is it sufficient just to reattach the spoke and adjust as necessary to geta true wheel.. 5) Are there special toosl for tighening the spokes properly? thanks in advance..... Timelord
  20. On my lock the "offer" was only valid for 12 months, and had so many terms and conditions that it was useless. Just a sales gimmick me thinks !!!
  21. You have blown the little 2 amp fuse. The same thing happened to me. I think the powerlight dimming is a feature, rather than the affect of the change of current. If you press the light switch on, even with theights completely out of the circuit they still dim - I think it assumes if it is dark enough for the lights to be on, then the powerlights being bright might be a distraction. The 2amp fuse is a mini blade and easy to fit, they cost about 80p from an car shop. If your lights are not working it will need replacing. You just remove the cover (1 screw) from the non drive side of the crank and the wiring, with the fuse is stuffed into a frame cavity. I am just wondering though.... my rear bulb blew quite quickly - I have only just started using my lights regularly - Now we are all using the lights more regularly - I hope we are not about to see problems!!
  22. After a closer inspection I found the blown 2amp mini blade fuse, in the wiring in the lighting circuit. Will be easy to replace. You just need to take the cover off the non drive side of the bike. I also found why the rearlight wasn't working - a blown bulb. All fixed for £1.12 !!
  23. Now that it is getting darker in the mornings and evenings I have started to use the lights on my pro connect. They are connected to the battery. This morning I noticed that the rear light was not working. When I got to work i fiddle with teh wires to see if they were loose - but to no avail. Then I took the light off the rear. The front light was on at this stage. When I disconnected the wires at the back of the rear light, they touched. There was a click in the battery/motor region of the bike and then the front lamp went off. Have a blown a fuse somewhere - I'm desperate to know how to fix this .. thanks in advance btw motor stillworks fine.
  24. Being a relative newbie to electric biking and indeed biking, I was mortified when a spoke on my 57cm Pro Connect sheared off, leaving me with a buckled wheel and unridable bike. Not knowing what to do I posted on here. Lloyd from 50cycles posted back saying that if I gave them a call he would send out a spoke and arrnage to carry out the work under warrenty, i.e i take it to a local dealer, they do the work.. 50cycles reimburse me... Phone up the next day... and the Spoke(s) they sent 2, arrived in less than 24 hours. I took the wheel off easily took it to my local dealer, who refused to do the work, as the bike was not purchased there... took it to a not so local dealer and they did the work in 30mins. So in less than 48 hours after the incident I am back on the road. Thank you lloyd and 50cycles..... In addition I was really impressed by how easility I got the rear wheel off, and back on again after the repair. As the work only cost me £12 I wont be bothing 50cycles for a reimbursement.... but thanks for the offer !!! I would recommend them, and the Pro Connect to anyone !!!
  25. I have just taken the rear wheel off in order to get this repaired (nice and straight forward!), and i noticed quite a lot of white coloured grease at the non drive side of the Nexus gear hub... is this normal or is it leaking from somewhere?
