1. Hi d8veh You have been very helpful in the past regarding my problems with the Ezip and the battery you listed is the one, regarding opening up to see what the problem is,been there done it and am wearing the teeshirt. Having purchased a Fast4ward PEAK on the cycle to work scheme about 2 years ago had the same problem after a year using the bike, battery started giving problems, on this occasion the battery was definitely the cause, after riding for a certain distance, power went, on checking battery condition only one green led was showing. The battery was guaranteed for 2 years,so I suppose I was eligible for a replacement but could not resist having a look.Well having opened up lo and behold for starters the battery compartment was soaking, the cause, not weatherproof enough,or condensation with heat of battery, compartment who knows.Battery case consisted of BMS and 3 modules of 12v.The modules consisted of 4v aa type batteries on checking the modules one was reading low,ok lets check the individual batteries out, first problem batteries are spot welded together, best of luck separating them, got stuck in with my trusty snips, after nearly decimating the module, managed to separate the individual batteries, out of 18 batteries, still cant work out how they have configured them to give out 12v, suspect so many for power and rest powering BMS but who knows, anyway out of 18 batteries 4 shorted ie dead,so out of a whole pack of batteries, 4 shorted batteries render a £200 battery pack useless, fair enough never putt a load on the other modules but they looked ok.So going by my experience if you open up the battery there is little you can do.This post in no way detracts from the expertise of the fine members who give such invaluable advice to members Thanks
2. Thanks thats a big help,to isolate the problem is halve the battle,i was surprised to find out it was the battery as when the problem occurs i checked the battery with the led indicator and it allways reads 3 bars green, indicating full,is it the battery managment system that is reading a problem with the battery.I am ok with electrics and it would be a great help if you can talk me through the testing of the battery.I have the brushless tester for the controller but not sure if that would indicate a battery problem. Thanks PS BATTERY IS 3 YEARS OLD
3. Hi All Anyone help with problem on my Izip Skyline 24v pas electric bike. After a certain milage bike loses all power,on switching key off then on,power returns but as soon as i start to pedal, switches off again,on leaving overnight normal power returns, but when i have cycled a certain milage, problem returns, don,t have milage indicator but seems to lose power about same distance every time.OK seems something is overheating BATTERY,MOTOR,CONTROLLER? Seems to point to controller, and if controller may need some help aquiring new one. Thanks
4. OK most of us electric bike owners have confirmed that they are great for short or medium dedicated journeys, for getting us from A to B with the least exersion great for the hills and getting us to our destination without needing a shower and feeling fairly relaxed. What about touring on a electric bike what would be the problems you would face,ie charging for a start, this would be a camping holiday. What distances would be practical to travel everyday,10,20,30 mls. What would be the pros and cons of charging the battery every day, would you go to the nearest boozer or cafe and while you are sampling the fare sneakily plug your battery and charger into the nearest socket and make the meal or drink last as long as can, before being rumbled only joking,do you think the camp site owners would accommadate you asking if you can charge your battery at the nearest socket and do you think you should offer to pay considering it only costs a few pence. Is this where the electric bike meets its nemmisis. Regards
5. Thanks to d8veh for supplying the pas sensor, that got me going again on the izip electric bike. They say you learn by your mistakes, but there has been a happy ending to the story, all because i joined the pedelec forum. Cheers
6. Bike Cargo Trailer Bicycle Pannier Storage Bag Single 16" Wheel Colour Choice | eBay Hi I bought one of these bobyak style trailers, have not had a chance to use it yet, electric bike on the blink. They supply bolts to attach to the rear wheel spindle but on my bike the thread is bigger than the one they supply, they olso supply a spiggot quick release but i could not work out how to use it.I made up a bolt with 6mm thread to fit mudgaurd threaded hole. The thread is 6mm on the hole side increasing to 10mm round with stopper on end on the trailer side.I don,t carry very heavy stuff so it should be ok,for the price they are very good seem to be exact copy of bobyak with a 200£ difference. Regards
7. Hi d8veh Thank you for taking an interest in my catastrophy. a little knowledge is dangerous as they say,I very much appreciate your offer of magnate and sensor.I don,t want you too be out of pocket with this offer and will repay you. Thanks
8. pictures of pas sensor fo izip skyline bike Hi All Pictures of bike and mangled sensor.I did not pay attention when magnate disintegrated and don,t know if there were magnates in every square as you can see there are holes on 2 radias an outer one at the max of the radias and another slightly more back from the max of the radias. Thanks to b8veh for his support, the sensor is still intact it is only the magnates that are mangled.i have a 5 magnate disc which i origanaly ordered only to find it did not work,i used the new magnate with the old sensor which may have been a mistake. REGARDS
9. Hi All Thanks for the replies it has been a great help don,t know if i have attached picture correctly.Have been in touch with shop in notts that someone suggested and they have been very helpfull, but they have warned me that support for this bike is dwindeling albeit that they still sell the bike,he is going to look at bike in salesroom and try to identify the pas sensor. The ones that have been sent to me are 5 magnets and the one i need seems to be 10.the magnets seem not to be in line it seems there are 5 on outer and 5 on inner radias.if the pictures turn out you will see what i mean. Thanks
10. Hi All Long story about electric bike, bought a currie izip 24v pas electric bike for a song and was very happy with it, not great on the hills but for a regular commute back and forward to work with a milage of 5mls there and back with no great hills it was great,it would take you on the flat at 15mph,and i was realy enjoying it,had the bike for about 9 months and the bottom bracket started tightening up,silly me thought the bottom bracket bearings had blown and needed replacing.first big problem, had the crank set remover, inserted on the drive side to remove crank and stripped thread. Made from alluminiam like chewing gum.HEY HO hammer and cold chizel, oops damaged pas sensor, eventually got it of,all that had been the problem was the lock nut had tightened up and needeed adjusted bo ho. During this dismantle i had damaged the pas sensor and the chain ring.OK chain ring not a problem 42t ring easely got from ebay, but the pas sensor has been a nightmare,in the course of trying to find one, you would not believe the problems i have encountered, first stop was currie technologies USA no support in UK.PAS sensor out of stock and if it was available it would cost 9$ plus postage at a price of approx 26£.OK that was dissmised plenty on ebay.First problem had to find out if controller was analog or digital don,t have a clue, next problem, was it + or +-,i started to get lost at that point.God i can not believe it would be so hard to get a spare part for a bike that is selling on ebay and amazon, and olso is selling well, the poeple who are buying this bike are in for a shock because there is no support for spare parts,it is a shame because it is a good electric bike, well made as far as i can see.Anyway is there anybody on this site, that states, everything you need to know about electric bikes and i don,t want to here about, should have bought a kalkof at 2grand,can anyone help a person who can only afford a basic electric bike thanks
11. Hi all Bought myself a izip skyline electric bike on ebay for £300 brand new had my doubts about an electric bike at that price, have to give buyer there due did warn me battery may be faulty ie not charging or charge will not last long but i have found after 6 months use it is still going strong, the batteries are lithion and seem to be ok.I have to be honest the bike is very good for the price i paid, it is pas and has 3 gradiant settings it is 24v and for general running about is great. For this price i gather it may be a discontined model, there is a few drawbacks it is not the greatest for realy steep hills, but i do mean realy steep it will probably be because it is 24v,The battery and gradiant indicator on the handelbar can be a pain it is very easely knocked against and breaks easily i have had to super glue it a few times.I am not sure about buying new battery have googled for new battery but not very sucsesfull this may be the problem but i am sure with an electronic background i will overcome this problem all in i think i have got myself a bargain and for a starter bike it has convinced me that electric bikes are going to be big in the not to distance future. If anybody can give me some advice on the battery problem it would be much appreciated regards
