Silent but not inactive
Finally finished and very few problems in the end, it handles well, pulls lilke a train uphill, but I do need to alter the peddle gearing( too much assist and not enough peddle for my needs) I think I need to bling it up a bit to make it more visible, flags ,lights etc

PAS problems
I wonder if anyone can help ? my setup is 328rpm Q100 , S12S controller (current limited ) ,LCD3 . motor is used as a mid drive. The problem I have is that it takes several rotations of the pedals for the PAS to kick in and in those rotations it feels as if the motor is acting as a brake, pedal past that and it all seems fine. If I feed in a few rpm on the throttle then apply PAS ,no problem and stopping pedaling and restarting is fine as long as the motor has a few revs on it. Is it possible that I have parameter P1 set wrongly (214) I have found conflicting vies on that. For what its worth, the setup on the throttle works a dream being able to drive through 21 gears regards John

A fing wot I lernt
Thank you for the reply which explained everything so clearly d8veh, I did flip the magnet disc to try it , and that resulted in no hint of life from the motor but it now works with reversed sensor. regards John

A fing wot I lernt
Having got the trike ready to add all the electrickery,, fitted the PAS magnet ring and sensor for short cable run on the left side of the mid drive BB, powered up and nothing....... peddle backwards and the motor spun happily in the right direction., using my last braincell I deduced the magnet disc was facing the right way so all was left was the sensor, rotated that 180 degrees in its mounting and all was well, seem there is a directional sensitivity on these beasties, are they just more than one Hall Effect device because I dont see how a magnet passing over it from left to right or right to left can cause that unles its a software and flux variation with timing can make the difference. anyone got an explanation I can understand ? regards John

Magnets 8 or 12 ?
Thanks for the rapid reply, now I can destroy the centre of the magnet rings and see if my mid drive setup works regards John

Magnets 8 or 12 ?
I am at the point of installing the electrickery stuff and due to the design need to remove the centre of the magnet discs, I have 8 and 12 magnet discs my question is " is one better than the other" I can see more magnets = more pulses per rev which my simple mind says smoother, but is it more power hungry? thanks for any input regards John

Hi all, Just thought I might give you all a laugh at my efforts at an E assist trike, Q100 hub motor as mid drive and counter shaft so me and motor can use all the gears, it will work or be a very costly pile of scrap HAHA comments of all flavours welcome Thanks in advance regards John

just a simple question (possibly)
would you care to expand on that possibly? No is an ok answer

just a simple question (possibly)
Apart from the questionable legality of charging a battery from a generator while in motion is there any practical reason that precludes using a genny to drive the charger to charge a battery pack that is not connected to anything other than the charger. regards Sandman

My Electric Trike
The goal is not speed but assist with trailer on the trike hence the involved gearing plus if it dosnt work I can put the motors in a wheel I have the lcd so the tip about current limiting there and crimping the shunt a good to know, thanks regards John

My Electric Trike
Hi all, having added a hub motor to my partners trike after she rode one of Twinkles machines, I have started building two touring trikes for a trip round the Netherlands,I am using Q100 motors as a mid drive with drive sprocket on the disc mount side to a jackshaft then across to a normal 3 ring crankset minus pedals of course, those are at the pointy end. I have one problem which again seems to mean making my own is the throttle twistys and thumb throttles are just ergonomicaly no use on a trike with bar end shifters and upright steerers so waiting on Hall effect devices to arrive to put in my own push button casing, pics of build to date if anyone is interested, the motors go in the gap in front of the rear wheel Q100 motor S12S controller pedal assist thingy gearing as yet to be decided regards john

Thanks for pointing out the blindingly obvious, I have been kicking myself for missing that
