Torq LED error codes

My power indicator switch on my Ezee Torq was faulty and so 50 cycles have sent me a new one. I have rewired the entire loom and the front and rear lights work fine but...no power to the motor even though the LED displays shows healthy green. The power on LED on the battery case is blinking with 5 red flashes - what does that mean ? Anyone know how I can fix it as I need the Bike for tonight !

 

Any help?

The LED codes (from the manual) are listed on flecc's site here. 5 flashes indicates a fault with either the throttle (unlikely, unless its been dismantled and incorrectly fitted back together) or its connection to the battery meter (on the handlebars).

Code number 5 is faulty throttle connections, sounds like a connection mismatch on the 3 Hall wires there.

P.S. Just seen Stuarts post. Use my link as well so that you see the motor wiring colour codes as well, since they could be miswired if there's a humming noise from the motor.

Torq 5 LED error

 

Thanks for the prompt replies - i have only connected up the part as supplied by 50 cycles and they come with one way connectors so I can't see why an error code concerning the throttle should start as a result. It was working 100% before. I have given it all a check over but still the same 5 LED code flashes.

 

It's Noah's Ark weather here now so I will have to abort and call 50 cycles tomorrow.

There was torq:D of making it and others available on pedelecs but I don't think anything came of it, perhaps due to copyright issues. Most of what's in it is the obvious stuff but at least it's in English. The service data for the Shimano components is provided with the manual and is also available from the Shimano site. The error coded are about the only thing in the manual that is not obvious, unless the reader has never ridden a bike before:D

 

Nick, just found out from another post that you're now a Torq owner, if you need a manual PM me with your email address and you can have a pdf scan of mine, it's only a few A4 pages. Assuming no one raises any copyright objections.

You'd think so, but the connector did change at the time of the addition of LED lighting, and sudden changes aren't unusual in Chinese production, as those variable motor wire colour codes show.

 

The three wire connector on the older dynamo bikes had the throttle wires reversed to the other connector end when changed to the 5 way for LED lighting inclusion.

 

I found this out trying the 3 way Torq throttle on the 5 way Quando one, having to bend back the side locking plate to get it plugged in "backwards".

Are the codes the same for the Liv?

 

On mine the motor has started cutting out; the ignition LED blinks 6 times, which the Torq list says means the battery needs charging, but it's been charged and the bike's indicator shows green. 50Cycles suggested checking the connections, which I've done, to no avail.

They are unlikely to be the same for the brush motor Liv.

 

Is it cutting out all the time, or just under high loadings such as when climbing a hill?

All the time. If I lift the front wheel off the ground and twist the handle slightly, it catches for a moment, and then cuts out again. So basically no load at all.

Hi Brangdon,

have had this happen to me. Problem was snapped wire within the throttle, probably due to the cable, getting yanked on. I would suggest removing the triangular shaped cover and checking the wires are in tact, if you find a break and are handy with a soldering iron you should be able to repair it. It is fairly delicate job requiring a steady hand or a new throttle from 50cycles for £25 inc. delivery. If you can repair it or get a new one, I would recommend carefully wraping some self amalgating tape around the cable where it enters the throttle body and then overlaping the tape on to the throttle body. This will give added strength and waterproofing.

If that isn't the solution then contact Flecc.

This may sound like a leg-pull but it's a fact and may solve your problem if you have not found the answer already.

If you have the cycle in Pedelec Mode and turn the throttle without applying motion to the pedals the LED will flash 4 or 5 times.

It did when I tried it (quite by accident) some time ago now. I can't repeat the test now.

I was just amusing myself checking that the motor had not suffered by being ignored a lot during last winter. I turned on the battery, lifted the front wheel, twisted the throttle and ........there was no movement from the wheel. I tried many times ..........nothing. I observed the LED sequence three or four times. Four or Five flashes (I don't recall now how many exactly,but it led me to the diagnosis that there was a "throttle" fault. I was about to remove the throttle in the hope that something would disclose itself before I got too deep into its bowels.

Then I thought "AH! was the cycle in Pedelec last time I used it?" Sure enough it was. When I disengaged Pedelec it was fine.
