Chain driven ebike

Featured Replies

I know there is the Currie one,but has anyone built one using a scooter motor like the Unite one? Electric Scooter Motor 13.7 Amp - 250 Watt - 24 Volts on eBay, also Parts Accessories, Electric Scooters, Scooters, Sporting Goods (end time 02-Apr-08 19:11:54 BST)

Are these motor's any good?

What size would you need and what voltage?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of chain drive?

Thanks in advance for any help given!:D

The Currie one is the Unite motor now, they adopted it some while ago.

Their previous motors had a chequered history, at first very powerful but prone to burning out, and even when toned down they overheated and had to have a huge finned heatsink added. Later they had a less powerful motor, but have finally settled on the Unite one with a minimal heatsink.
