July 11, 201510 yr the Cricri flight was done as a protest against the very unsportsmanlike attitude of Airbus. There's nothing sportsmanlike about big business. Airbus have long been the victim of underhand dirty tricks by the US Aircraft industry and Federal authorities, so it's not surprising if some of that has rubbed off, Airbus has a lot at stake, since theirs is a serious two seater intended to have a commercial future. .

They aren't scared of that little outfit, they just wanted the publicity value of being first. They've got two real commercial objectives and being first would have had long term publicity value. Airbus will succeed in this field and as they do over time, will absorb the European competition in the process. It's no different in the USA of course, where Boeing are the dominant force in many areas of their commercial plane industry, partly by taking over anything that shows promise. .
