Post office doesn't like my battery!

Featured Replies

Called in today for a price to post my spare battery and was told no chance, new or used it's the same unless it's actually connected to a device it can't go anywhere.

This is based on a series of y/n questions which are meant for electronic equipment such as phones and laptops but as they are shipped to dealers there must be a way..

Had anyone sent or received an ebike battery...

Yes, received contents undeclared. Nasty things unrelated to lithium can happen enroute though:

But ok once repaired with silver duct tape:

At the end of the day I want to offer it for sale on eBay and be sure it will arrive safely. Bike shop says they will give me a battery box and I want to advertise it including a rack mountable transport solution.. (sounds good but all it is is a rear rack bag with polystyrene inserts) so that will help keep it in one piece.

Not many ebikes near me so collection only might not work.

Will google app later and see what's what.. thanks

Royal Mail won't carry batteries but couriers do. Some request that packages are labelled as carrying lithium batteries.

Tbh i hadnt considered a courier as i tend to think they are a lot of bother but we have a my hermese depot just down the road so might ride down tomorrow and ask..
I book via Parcel2Go.com which often offers cheaper rates than booking direct. No problems at all with batteries with most of their couriers.

MyHermes or Collect+.

`a cycle part` will suffice,

they don`t pull the parcel apart to check.

You'd be better off going to the website. They will pick it from you for a few pence more.

I've used my Hermes for a lot of stuff now, never had problems.

Just Been for a ride out and called in at the post offic/off licence for a couple of beers and they have made enquiries and a power pack is allowed...

They are very helpful in there.. something to do with me spending £2000 + per year on packets....

Thanks all for the advice and information.. I now have a few options..

I'm pally with the staff in my local post office, and they say that Royal Mail have lost a massive amount of custom, since the new rules and regs were introduced. The likes of my Hermes must have been laughing all the way to the bank.

Some customers get angry at being asked what's in their parcel, and even though they are not sending something illegal, still storm out on principal lol

not sure why they bother tho as when they loose it never know what was in it anyway.

Loose it? I post between 20 and 40 per week to UK, EU, USA and Australia and have lost4 this year, most to Italy. Post office pays up every time. They get my vote

they found it but 3 months after it was sent and was insured so filled in a dispute with parcel force then found it and sent on to person that bought it and told them to send it back to me as gave refund with pp. and sent email and told depot manager over the phone twice in london.

then as they found it closed the dispute and then found out it had taken damage from the buyer as well just lucky he pp me back minus the cost to fix the damage.

item cost 200 quid and cost 30 to fix it -pp fees 2 times as well.
