September 12, 200817 yr Author Panic is over..its now ok. After wiping the smallest gear a small slot was revealled. Out of this slot onto the floor dropped a small peg about half the size of my fingernail ! How i found it on the garage floor i haven't got a clue. I must have walked over it a dozen times....it could have been long gone. Bike is now working again and i will now have a peaceful sleep.
September 12, 200817 yr Theoretically they should be greased occasionally, varying from 5,000 to 20,000 miles according to manufacturer and when recommended. In practice I think it best to just run them until there's a start of an obvious indication like a squealing or squeaking from the gear surfaces, and that takes years on most hub motors. .
September 12, 200817 yr Author mine should be ok now,,but if i have problems at least i have learnt how to do it......the hard way..............
